When my daughter had spent ages getting ready and her outfit didn;t look quite right but her face was so expectant - i told her she looked just perfect ... her happy face made up for the slight wrongness!

Telling my sister that her new hairstyle looked great as didn’t want to hurt her feelings

When my son was little and questioned the existence of Father Christmas and the tooth fairy!

Carolann99 Sun 17-May-20 20:59:18

Only to spare someone's feelings, for example, that I love a Christmas or birthday gift that is really quite awful!

The home schooling isn’t going too well - I didn’t let on to my son that it was the Easter holidays, as I didn’t think he’d done enough school work ?

My son was 2 and we had tried everything to get rid of his dummy to no avail. One day we went to a zoo and we must have dropped the dummy somewhere along the way. Back in the car to go home he started crying and asking for it... I immediately said that the monkey we had seen with her baby had wanted it for her baby. As soon as I got home I googled monkey with dummy and amazingly found a picture of a similar baby monkey with a very similar dummy to his... he never asked for it again!!

A few times when you thank people for gifts that you don't like and say “thank you so much! I love it!”. This is a good white lie though because I don't want to hurt peoples feelings. smile

When my boss asks me something like if I'd invited an extra person to a meeting and I say yes, even though I forgot and then quickly invite them that moment.

“Where did that huge bar of Toblerone go?”
Oh, I gave it to the grandchildren.

Honestly, all the time. But most often when I say my daughter won’t like my chocolate/crisps (insert tasty snack here) because it’s too spicy. Lol.

I once ate my ex's selection box chocolate and then convinced him he'd already eaten it

My best lie was when I deceived my kids for years about my age. They missed my 40th birthday because they thought I was 36yrs old. Then one day they stumbled across my passport and worked out my real age. They remind me of it and I remind them not to tell!!

Owllycrafter Sun 17-May-20 23:16:13

I have told quite a few to my little boy at Christmas telling him Santa exists, at Easter telling him the Easter Bunny is coming and when he loses his teeth I tell him the tooth fairy will come and leave him some money for the tooth.

"You look great today!" To a friend that needed a little lift.

grannybiker Sun 17-May-20 23:33:56

Um..., I try really hard not to tell a lie, but there are times such as when a friend asked if I'd liked a short film they'd been involved in producing. It was very dull, so I murmured something about it being a challenging topic and asked her some questions about it. Seemed to work.
