Over a lifetime probably 100s. I’d rather tell a white lie than hurt someone’s feelings

Well I've told many a white lie over the years but in my defence it's usually been to spare other people's feelings.

I have told my husband several white lies about handbags I have had for ages! Or the fact I didn’t really know how much wool I had stashed away! I am sure he can really see through me, but never says anything.

Often when receiving gifts I hate to hurt people's feelings. The time I remember most was visiting MIL she had just inherited a hideous vase and asked if I liked it of course I said yes. Her reply well I will give it to you as everyone else thinks it's hideous. ?

When my daughter was about 8 and she and her friend put loads of make up on. She e asked if they looked grown up. I said yes they did. She went out and came back upset with me because the man in the village shop said she wasn't old enough to buy a lottery ticket.

My husband does all the cooking for which I'm grateful. My white lie is that EVERYTHING is delicious. Sometimes it's not, but I dont want him to stop cooking.

When I visited my friend in hospital who was terminally ill I told her she was looking good. She was someone who always took pride in her looks. In reality I was shocked at how quickly she was going downhill. However I was there to cheer her up and I did even if I wasn't completely truthful.

Never told a white lie in my life...ever! Lol. Well that was the last white lie I've told.

As I recall over many years the little white lies I've let fall from my lips, in my defence, I can honestly say they have all been to protect, not offend or hurt any one, for fun and never done with malice.

I tell a white lie most of the time! People ask me how I am and I say 'fine' when actually I'm not but I hate talking about my various 'ailments' - many caused by the medication I have to take for leukaemia. There's something different every week and I'm sick of it myself so I don't want other people to have to listen to it! If I don't mention it, it doesn't drag me down.

Not since the kids were small and believed in Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy. Oh and that the pile of books/yarn hasn't been added to recently

When my daughter was about 14 (so 25 years ago), she wanted to save up to buy a TV for her bedroom. I didn't want her to have a TV in her bedroom in this vital GCSE year, but knew she was good at saving money, and that this purchase might be possible. So I asked her how she would be able to afford to pay for the annual TV licence, not letting on that ours covered the whole house, not just our TV. She didn't realise until she became a university student and living in rented accommodation that it was one licence per house, not per TV. Woops!

No Mum it was not me who ate the chocolate Christmas Tree decoration and carefully rewrapped the foil wrapper and placed it back on the tree. Yummy, Yummy.

Occasionally when I buy something new and DH asks if hes seen it before and I say that I've had it for a while, I just haven't worn it.

I have also told white lies about Father Christmas and the tooth fairy. Also to spare someone's feeling although I try to skate as near the truth as I can.

I do often have to say thank you for a present I have received but do not like as it is lovely of the person to have thought of giving me a present in the first place. Although sometimes I really think the person should know I definitely would not enjoy the gift!

When my late husband was in hospital and gravely ill, he asked if he was dying. I told him that when his white cells increased, he would be getting better. Sadly he died five days later.
