No longer have a partner as he died in 2014 but, as he was away for months at a time in the Merchant Navy, we didn't have any hobbies in common. He was in his workshop for hours and I was in my garden shed. We always had things to talk about though.

I wouldn't mind with some things, but if it became everything that would be too much I do like some 'me' time.

It depends if I want any help or if I am happily occupying myself.

My husband rarely gets involved in 'my' things as we have different interests and different skills. However, I have known him pick up my book and start reading it - sometimes it's annoying but usually I just find another book and wait till he's finished.

Don't really mind as long as he doesn't try to take over.

My husband and I have been married 40 years and he knows if I am doing something and he feels he can help, he asks and vice versa. We share most things, even chocolate!! It is no good getting upset and being precious, life is too short.

I do not have a partner at the moment but in past relationships I have been quite territorial about things I want to do on my own...which is maybe why I am on my own now!

Not a problem, we share everything

we like to do things together but my yoga class is 'me' time and I like it that way!

There isn't anything I consider to be 'mine'. Most things are 'ours'. I suppose I could say that my music is mine but there isn't the slightest chance of him wanting to get involved in that as he doesn't have a musical bone in his body and he's tone deaf!!!!!

I'm thrilled when my partner takes an interest in any of my hobbies. It brings us closer together.

I have no problem with sharing

When my husband tries to get involved with 'my things' it's really funny because he tries to play the piano with me and it ends up sounding like the cat playing a chopsticks duet!

He would never do that anyway.
We both respect our spaces.
Of course, we sometimes have difference of opinions.

But generally, very respectful if each other.

A reason not to have a partner?

Nothing, really - i don’t ‘own’ my interests!

The kitchen is my domain as it is me who prepares and cooks everything.It is a small kitchen so storage areas have to be used carefully.I like to put everything away after shopping etc so that I know just where to lay my hands on things.Now and again my partner will move things around in cupboards,fridge and freezer.No idea why he does it but it infuriates me !

He sort of knows and backs off.

I don't mind at all if my Husband shares in activities I enjoy. Just so long as he doesn't try to take over by claiming to be a lay expert in things he obviously knows nothing about (isn't this just a typical male trait, though)?

Go to it man, get the job done, give me a break !

Sometimes I ask for a bit of help with my computer and he takes much longer than necessary. I suspect he's reading my emails but cant object as I asked for help. I've nothing to hide, just like my bit of privacy.

What happens when your partner gets involved in something you consider to be yours? He doesn't, he gets involved in as little as possible!!
