My grandson loves Toy story and I have to read it to him at least three times a week, over facetime at the moment

35 years ago, my DS loved Thomas the Tank Engine stories. He had all of the books, which were read to him over and over again; his bedroom was similarly themed and birthday cakes had to be either Thomas, James or Percy. And now, 35 years later, his own son is similarly besotted with Thomas and friends and the original books are back out and being read to my grandson, just as they were to his daddy. Of all the things I'm missing during this lockdown, it's having a little 3 year old boy, sat on my lap, being totally engrossed in stories about Thomas, James and the Fat Controller. The stories are truly timeless and they hold the same magic now as they did when Reverend Awdry wrote them all those years ago.

How on earth to choose just one. There is a battle in our house! I love Heidi, but the other half is absolutely train mad, so Thomas and his many friends are often sharing their adventures with our five-year-old granddaughter Hollie. I might even resort to sabotage, and introduce her to Pride and Prejudice. Bit young for Colin Firth just yet [smile}.

Puddle lane - loved the characters as (mr Gotobed) and how it teaches children to read.

Sabanilas123 Wed 27-May-20 18:28:19

My youngest grandson, who is two and a half, especially loves “the tiger who came to tea”. I bought him a toy tiger and his favourite game at the moment is to make little sandwiches and play”tea parties”; me, him and the tiger!
He loves to dance along to the music too!

VickyH1965 Wed 27-May-20 15:22:47

The Hungry Caterpillar - it has some lovely illustrations but enables us to explain more about nature and how we evolve - into butterflies or into adults.
