Stickman is my grandson's favourite book. He would listen to that all day. He's nearly 3 and Thomas crazy!

My grandchildren love the story "The Magic Porridge Pot". It was a favourite of my childrens' and it was always a running joke that, when I settled the children down to bed, they could choose which story I would read to them. I had a huge book of different stories and tales and they would take it in turn to choose a story every night. After a while, I noticed that they all started to choose the same story each night...The Magic Porridge Pot! It wasn't my favourite story because it was quite repetitive so, after reading it a few times, I was bored of it. Nonetheless, I would sit there, going through the motions night after night!

It wasn't until they were much older that they confessed to me that they had worked out that it was the longest story in the book by far so they would pick it so that they had a longer time before they had to settle down and go to sleep, the little minxes!! Now, my grandchildren also ask for the same story if ever I read to them, I think that their parents let them in to a little secret! ??

Enid Blyton books .. they might not be PC - but you can't beat The Magic Faraway Tree or The Wishing Chair, or Amelia Jane or any of them tbh! Such childhood memories come flooding back.

We love reading Julia Donaldson's Gruffalo books, as my grandson loves the pictures and the rhymes, and I particularly love how the mouse gets one up on the Gruffalo!!

I used to read lots to my Granddaughters, they loved all the traditional ones, Cinderella and Snow white they loved best. I am now an Aunty to 2 little ones, who love Thomas, so everything crossed

Loved to read silly poems to the grandchildren, Michael Rosen a real favourite. Poems are so good, and you can do the silly voices. A real joy.

Swallows and Amazons,by Arthur Ransome, never dates or loses its innocence of children setting out on their adventures.bringing back many memories of my own childhood.

The Storm Whale by Benji Davis. It's the story of a boy living on a remote fishing island with his dad and cats. He is lonely so he is delighted when he finds a friend - a little whale washed up on shore after a storm. The pictures and sentiments are beautiful. Can be enjoyed by young and old.
