Also had a clear out. Done more gardening and bought some new different flowers. Watching what we spend and cooking from scratch more, no microwave meals but we never did much before. Recycling as much as we can. But I had to be a nurse as during lockdown my husband had a pacemaker fitted so I was lucky to get a weekly onlinevp supermarket slot but we are now back going out ourselves now. But at the same time being careful.

I’ve been cutting back on buying new clothes- it’s the second biggest polluting industry- and instead have been learning to mend and adjust what I’ve already got. Oddly clearing out my wardrobe has meant I’ve got a much clearer sense of what I’m wearing - rather then the daily confusion I had with more clothes. The other thing I’ve done - and this is really a lockdown thing- is I’ve been growing my own fruit and veg and letting the rest of the garden go wild to encourage as much biodiversity I can in my back yard

Certainly packaging is a big issue with me and I reuse whatever I can and avoid buying items with unnecessary packaging. Always use my own bags - never buy a plastic bag. However my big bugbear is the water wasted by people. A resource we all take for granted - however it does not mean we may needlessly waste it. Any water over from cooking etc goes on the garden. Taps are not left to run unnecessarily and I have spent a lot of my time teaching my grandchildren to conserve water!

No plastic water bottles , cooking mostly from scratch and buying as little food as possible that is wrapped in plastic

Granartisan Sun 20-Sept-20 09:59:27

Become more inventive with my cooking so that not an ounce of food is wasted.

With just two of us in our household we have very little kitchen waste but what we do have goes straight into the Hotbin for compost that we have in our garden. The only items that go into the Council bins is bones from meat and stones from fruit.

I love the idea that for every Eco pan purchased a tree is planted by Prestige!

My personal eco goals for 2020 were to:

Cycle to work rather than drive.
Install 4 water butts for my garden.
Fill my kettle with just enough water needed for a brew.
Change from normal washing powder/fabric softener to using an Ecoegg.

All targets achieved so perhaps an eco prize would be just the ticket! <desperately crosses fingers & toes>

I’ve always enjoyed growing & eating fresh fruit & veg from my garden. So particularly through the pandemic I’ve grown all sorts of salad & fruits & veg, which not only have I enjoyed the whole process from planting to eating it’s also lovely to share the fruits of your labour with friends & family. Not only gaining the benefits of the produce but the exercise & just being outdoors is such a feel good factor. I’d thoroughly recommend it to anyone no matter how small a garden or balcony, there is always a way to grow.

I am walking as much as possible rather than take the car.
Growing veg and herbs, some fruit too.
Energy saving lightbulbs.
Try to recycle as much as possible.
Buy from charity shops where possible and often upcycle purchases into something lovely, and unique.

Grannyjacq1 Sun 20-Sept-20 09:34:04

We try to walk or cycle rather than use the car. We have also had solar panels fitted and recycle whenever possible, though try to avoid single use plastics. We have both tried to cut down on buying clothing and always support charity shops. Most of our furniture we have had for over 40 years.

gulliver12 Sun 20-Sept-20 09:24:35

Never enough but can't give my clothes to charity shops except as rags because they end up for gardening. Just trust passing motorists can't see the holes in my jeans. Him indoors already has the hybrid car, solar panels and air-source heat pump.

Compqueen Sun 20-Sept-20 09:21:08

I have bought some reusable plastic good bags and try not to use any single use plastic ones.

Separate all rubbish into correct bins.
Walk now more than drive
recycle waste in the garden by using the composter
Homemade cakes and use in season vegetables/fruit
Growing fruit and using it to make jam

WendySmith3 Sat 19-Sept-20 23:15:52

We recycle or compost everything we can, grow our own veg, walk and cycle more and shower instead of using the bath

Clair82 Sat 19-Sept-20 22:48:03

I'm trying to cycle where I used to drive the car

natthem Sat 19-Sept-20 22:41:05

I take bottles to the bottle bank , clothes I have finished with to charity shops and all household rubbish in the recycling bins.

Keffie12 Sat 19-Sept-20 19:10:40

I don't buy supermarket or any shop food wrapped in plastic such as bananas, tomatoes and so on. Any plastic must be recyclable.

I also make sure we recycle rubbish waste as much as possible, donate or sell on website anything else such as clothing.

Recently I needed to get a new washer. My old one stopped working. I sold it on a popular selling site for spares and repairs. I got £20 for it

I also buy resealable, reusable dishwasher safe bags for foods. The outlay is not cheap but in the long run you save as your not buying throwaway bags

avitorl Sat 19-Sept-20 18:28:18

valseal Sat 19-Sept-20 18:17:43

We've just come down from a 2 car diesel family to a one car hybrid.

Tsuyoiko Sat 19-Sept-20 13:08:27

I've only ever flown one, 23 years ago, and have been vegetarian for over 30 years.

karenharrison Sat 19-Sept-20 12:46:09

I am making sure I recycle as much as I can and avoid making food waste

Flowerpowerlife Sat 19-Sept-20 12:14:07

I have a compost heap which prevents food waste and saves money and plastic resources in compost purchase. I walk whenever I can instead of taking the car. I use a local veg box delivery. I shop second hand for clothes. I don’t wash my jeans too often.

lucymajor Sat 19-Sept-20 09:42:01

I am making sure that I take bags with me whenever I go shopping, recycling a lot and also trying to waste less

hugshelp Sat 19-Sept-20 07:58:58

I don't drive. Grow some fruit and veg and avoid over-packaged goods as much as possible. cut down on meat. Recycle and reuse as much as possible.

devonnanny Sat 19-Sept-20 06:07:28

Reducing food miles and renewing efforts not to buy imported out of season fruit and veg. Recycling whenever possible.
