I knit for three knitting yarn companies and also make baby cardigans and matinee sets. If I have any baby yarn left over I make premature baby hats and cardigans.

Free sharing or charitable donation of my stuff rather than landfill. I’ve been doing it for a few years.

Recycling, buying things with less plastic packaging

Strawberry Sun 13-Sept-20 09:49:08

I have stopped buying new clothes and have gone through my wardrobe and am now using all the older clothes that I had forgotten about - some still had tags on! I have realised how little I need and have given lots to charity.

Jamshav Sun 13-Sept-20 08:33:28

I lead by example.

I recycle all recyclable items my family use.

I donate all old items (clothes / furniture) to good causes.

I am vegan.

I grow a lot of my own organic food, as well as hardly using the car; put on thermals rather than have the heating on.

alkh Sat 12-Sept-20 20:22:48

I do all the usual recycling: cardboard, plastics, glass etc. Recently I have began to use beeswax wraps for food leftovers in the fridge consequently I have stopped buying cling wrap. I have also stopped buying pump soap dispensers and returned to block soap, organic and plastic free wrap.

Dendav Sat 12-Sept-20 19:24:05

Recycle of course.
Upcycle my clothes.

We recycling everything that can be recycled and use energy friendly bulbs

We've cut down dramatically on the frequency of car use/driving since the lockdown began. We realised that we could actually get to many places that we needed to get to on a regular basis by cycling or walking, and along with being great for the environment, this has really improved our health and fitness levels too.

Recycling and following my Mother in ‘make do and mend’.

SusanCh Sat 12-Sept-20 14:12:05

I recycle where I can and am careful to not buy too many things that are wrapped in plastic.
I use shampoo and shower gel bars.
I give my old clothes to charity and even the things that are not fit for someone else to wear, I give to a local charity who can get money for rags.

Eating less meat

I avoid single use plastic as much as possible and use a local ‘plastic free’ shop. I walk and use buses rather than driving where possible. I am also on a ‘green’ electricity tariff.

muppet150 Sat 12-Sept-20 12:22:10

I have been clearing out a lot of stuff that is not needed anymore.

JoJoY Sat 12-Sept-20 12:14:27

I only buy what I will use/consume to reduce waste.

jocork Sat 12-Sept-20 11:38:55

I've long been a user of Freegle where I have given away unwanted stuff and acquired things I needed for free. I try to be as economical as possible with using power and water in the house. Being on a low income means it is a necessity anyway, but feeling that you are making even small steps to save the planet helps to motivate my efforts. I was brought up to hate waste which has given me a tendancy to be a hoarder, but I'm trying to make good use of my 'stuff' or gradually give it away to someone who needs it.

I am shocked by the wastage I see around me. At the end of term in July things were being thrown out by our department because 'we didn't need them'. All that was needed was to carry them down a couple of corridors to give them to another department who were glad to have them. At least I saved a few items from landfill!

cwasin Sat 12-Sept-20 11:28:18

Stopped using aerosols.
Roll on deodorant, non aerosol hairspray (Bedhead), recyclable spray bottles of furniture cleaner et al.

smith106 Sat 12-Sept-20 11:10:42

Lots of recycling and changing from plastic bags to canvas ones where possible

obag Sat 12-Sept-20 10:18:21

I walk wherever possible, and no longer buy bottled water; straight from the tap is fine. We have a meat free day at least once a week.

sunshine57 Sat 12-Sept-20 09:54:28

I have my own fruit and veg bags which I take with me when I go shopping with a view to not having anything wrapped in plastic.
They are made of cotton and I wash them after each use.
I have to make a real effort to remember to take them with me when I go shopping as I can be a little forgetful!
I put them by the front door and them I don't risk forgetting them.
I am glad to see the return of the paper carrier bag which I save and re-use.

Fizzyflo Sat 12-Sept-20 07:38:12

Climate change worries me - have started to make steps using beeswax wraps instead of plastic to wrap food items. Being extra vigilant in recylcing items in the correct bins. Trying to purchase loose items rather than items wrapped in lots of plastic. Having at least 1 non meat meal a week Small starter steps............
