I now hardly ever use the car and cycle and walk where I can. I havn't been on a flight for over four years.

large water butts at front & back of house, compost bins, less plastic, recycle as much as possible, energy saving light bulbs are just a few of the changes we have made!

We started by getting solar panels via a council run scheme which heats our water as well. We grow as many veg as we can, every time I think I’ll take the car I cycle or walk up to an hour to shop, chronic weather permitting.
We recycle, upcycle and this year decided to not buy anymore clothes till ours wear out as in our 60s we don’t need any more.
I cook from scratch and try to buy everything minus plastic packaging.
I make presents where possible and try to buy British.

I am doing much the same as most people . sorting out things we no longer use and passing them on to charity shops. I recently saw a request for toiletries for a foodbank and currently I am rounding up as many as I can.

legray22 Sat 03-Oct-20 12:48:51

I no longer buy pre-packed food - everything is fresh from local shops packed in paper bags and everything I eat is home cooked. It's easy as I live alone and cook for one and can freeze extra portions.

I recycle everything. Obviously I recycle the usual tins, cans, aerosols, plastics, paper and cardboard etc. All the clothes we no longer want are sold or donated to charity - even things past their best as they are sold by charities as rags. I sell defunct electricals, someone could use it to repair or replace a broken part. I've recently totally dismantled a hoover and sold the parts so people don't have to put theirs into landfil.

We're slowly trying to eliminate single use plastic that we have control over and making more sensible choices about packaging. Recycling is automatic in our household now and we separate food waste for composting.

owenhrm Sat 03-Oct-20 08:34:47

I recycle everything that I can, and also do a lot of upcycling of furniture. Anything else that has use I donate to charity shops or put on freecycle if I have no use for it.

Walk not drive. Turn off TV never on standby.
I've been an active member of Greenpeace for many years. Always trying to do my bit.

I have donated to charity after going through my cupboards, I have also donated food to the hedgehog and animal rescue where I live and I have also grown lots of potted plants to encourage bees and butterflies into my garden this year. I have kept myself very busy.

mumandnan Fri 02-Oct-20 15:21:36

I have planted plants to encourage bees and shopped in charity shops and online selling groups to save buying new.

Gardendisy Fri 02-Oct-20 13:17:37

Eating mainly home grown veg. Collecting rainwater to water plants.
Recycling every thing we can. Repairing and extending the life of clothes etc. Re using shop carrier bags. Walking where possible.

I’ve changed my eating habits so I don’t waste any food. Ensuring I only use the electric that is needed and turn off all the lights. I don’t put the heating on as quickly as I used to. I have blankets and clothing to warm up. I have also walked more on short trips rather than taking the car

live7 Fri 02-Oct-20 12:27:58

I am not buying anything at the moment unless I really need it. I have a tendency to hoard or keep stuff 'for best' and am now decluttering and being green at the same time. I try to recycle as much as possible, I love to walk or try to use public transport - in London that's quite goood, although Covid has made buses harder.
I love the motoo: Live simply so that others may simply live.
Encouraging others to do it is often more by interest from them rather than lecturing them!!

sylwright Fri 02-Oct-20 12:09:47

I try to recycle everything. I buy a lot less clothes and make sure the ones I discard are given to charity shops. I also buy less new furniture and like to buy old and recycle it.

masocom9 Fri 02-Oct-20 09:19:02

I have bought a more fuel efficient car.

acornlady Fri 02-Oct-20 08:46:06

I am trying to use less fuel by using my slow cooker rather than the electric oven.

highlandmo46 Fri 02-Oct-20 04:06:02

I am trying to recycle my old clothes by making them into useful things.

VickyH1965 Thu 01-Oct-20 20:20:10

We have had our pushbikes serviced and restored and now use them more than we use the car. Such a treat to cycle on empty roads during lockdown and much safer too.

agreaves19 Thu 01-Oct-20 17:55:03

I always take my own bags for shopping rather than using the plastic versions, I have a great selection of cloth shoppers

purplevamp Thu 01-Oct-20 15:38:28

I no longer buy bottled soft drinks or water and have done so for over a year now. Plastic straws were banned in our house over a year ago too. I haven't bout any new clothes this year, instead I am wearing what I have and any that I no longer need are being either sold online or put in the charity clothes bins.

joyold Thu 01-Oct-20 12:14:36

Bring my own bags for shopping. Recycle as much as I can. Haven't got sucked into "must have a new outfit" every week. Clothes I like I keep for years

Tracey64 Thu 01-Oct-20 12:10:46

Recycle as much as possible. Have also become vegan.
