adopt a granny or grandad

We used to hear lovely stories from a Gransnetter who lives in Australia and the little girl next door who 'adopted' her as a kind of surrogate granny.
I haven't seen any posts from her lately, I hope she's all right. I think her GN name was Joan.

I think you misunderstood. It isn't a problem that many grandparents can be seen in supermarkets, libraries, parks, soft play areas etcetc, it's an opportunity for you to make friends so your little one gets to spend time with "that generation"

Where I live in London a little boy 8 years old and is a neighbour has adopted me! I make sure his mother knows where he is because he loves to chat and also help me with pruning. He suggested we do some pruning on a freezing cold day last month. I and his mother turned down his kind suggestion. He turns up with the correct tools and is very competent. There were two other children who helped but they have moved to Birmingham.

Have you read the comment from CariGransnet about the possibility of safeguarding issues, for both parties with the surrogate granny idea. If you join your local library, you'll find lots of grannies joining various knitting groups, choosing books etc and you may make a friend. Our local supermarket is a great meeting place for the generations. There are endless grandparents with their own grandchildren in tow. I'd say making friends is probably the way to go.

Hi.. i have an eight month old daughter, . who doesnt have any grandparents.. i am looking for a surrogate granny for her .. any ideas anyone? Its such a shame she wont have that interaction with that generation .. we live in Kenilworth.. i have tried Age concern.. no joy

Hello NyreeA. What a lovely thing to do hold a Sunday afternoon tea Party for the elderly wish i could hold one but I'm in a very small flat and don't have the room. The charity runs monthly afternoon tea parties for lonely older people on a Sunday all over the country.

You can see where a Tea Party group is and then get in touch to see if an older person can join, or to volunteer as a host of driver.

I'm a volunteer for the group in Peterborough and it's such a rewarding thing to do. Makes such a difference to the older people who attend as our guests. Plus, it's a great excuse for tea and cake!

I'm looking for a coffee morning (or similar) for an elderly customer of mine to attend. She lives in Tiptree in Essex. She is worried about attending alone. Thanks! Dawn

I'm not in your part of the world, but if I were organising a tea dance, I would contact someone in your area who gives dancing lessons and see if they would be willing to provide music, be MC and suggest a venue for you.

Hi, i'm a volunteer group co-ordinator for Contact the Elderly and i organise monthly tea parties for the older people in Pembrokeshire, Wales. As we will be marking our Golden Jubilee, 50 years since CTE was first launched, i would like to organise an Afternoon Tea Dance. Is there anyone out there who can help me with the planning of this, some ideas on what i need, music, dance routines, dancers etc? Also, as there are more and more people coming forward wanting to join our group, i would also like to look into starting up an Adopt a Grandparent scheme in Pembrokeshire. Can you help pls?
