Recovery statistics

The headmaster at my school was ill Sunday and Monday but feels better now. He’s been told to isolate for 7 days from the first symptoms. Which I don’t think is long enough but that’s what the medical authorities have said.

How long dies it take to recover, you asked?

I can't be sure, but below is a paragraph relating to case studies on one of the affected cruise ships might give an indication. It refers to a 35 year old crew member.

... On day 9, RT-PCR again was positive for SARS-CoV-2. Her symptoms continued to diminish, and by day 10 she had discontinued all medications. RT-PCR results were positive on days 13 and 15, negative on day 19, positive again on day 20, and negative again on days 22 and 23, meeting the criteria for discharge, 2 consecutive negative assays.

She had it mildly, but it was three weeks before she tested clear for two consecutive days!

And the same article says that over half of those on the ship who tested positive showed no symptoms. If that is true of the general population, that is an awful lot of people walking around thinking they are well but potentially infecting others!

MamaCaz| Thank you so much for that article - it makes things much clearer. I keep hearing about people who say they have had it (friends and friends of friends) but as far as I know they haven't been tested, so they may not have had or may still have it with no symptoms and a blithely going around infecting an unsuspecting public!

I don't know about all of you, but I would gladly PAY to either have the test to see if I had it (IF I had symptoms) or to have the blood test to see if I'm immune and have had a mild version.

Gagajo me too. It doesn't cost much for an antibodies test but nobody seems willing to come forward to offer it.

Whether an attack of this virus renders you immune, I don't know.
