SIL ignoring 14 day reommended isolation rules

well.. here in Swindon, I will name and shame Asda and men, mostly men..

here Asda had a set aside shopping time for the self isolated so we could go and shop, hopefully in relative safety thinking of the 6 foot keeping away rule

I went, first time out in a fortnight.. and the shop was packed.. those deep trolleys, full and overflowing... I queried with the poor,, yes, she looked awful! checkout operator that I had got the right time... and she said yes, I didn`t have to ask anymore, the shop was packed , the check outs full and overflowing.. she said they, ie. Asda couldn`t do anything about them couldn`t stop them coming in.

discussions with local people on line, said the shop opened at 6 am. a person was there before, Asda let the obvious ones in, a long queue, then all the others just rushed in.

so report them? to who? the police? what can they do? no laws being broken..

shelves still mostly empty... though rationed (!) to two items per person.

another customer told how a check out operator had been hit in the face by a customer.. over a packet of biscuits!

I feel for the checkout operators... think the Government should bring in laws? who will enforce them? Strong community penalties need to be brought and enforced,, why is the basic stuff so difficult to enforce? name them? don`t think they have any shame..

and yes, not thinking about it, seemed to be a lot of youngish, middle aged MEN doing the shopping!

I met a lady who looked well over 80 last week who said she was not bothered, her generation had been through a lot worse in the war and in those days there were many diseases without remedies such as TB, diphtheria, scarlet fever etc and they were used to children dying. She said nowadays people are so used to being immunised against everything. Hubby and I are obeying advice because it's not just about us, it's about spreading it to others.

Some people still have the ‘it won’t happen to me’ and they will never change. Sadly other people are being affected and infected. Selfish and ignorant.

What a shame the government can’t suggest that for any of the gung ho , belligerent, don’t give a damn about others folk..they sign a DNA..do not resuscitate form, thus leaving the precious ventilators for those who have made the huge sacrifice of not seeing their families.

one of our local GP’s ..and a neighbours sil has already told his family that if he feels it unsafe to return at night to his family, he will book into a local hotel in order to keep them safe.

It is very frustrating when this happens. We as a family are self isolating at the moment because one granddaughter became mildly ill and then developed a really bad cough and later . a temperature so we are all inside and obviously it is very restrictive.

On the plus side several of our lovely neighbours have offered today to pick up some papers for us to help the boredom , I usually fetch several for us to share
They will leave them on the doorstep for us and daughter will leave money the same way

knittingnana24 what is he transporting as he could be in the key worker list. Nit a man thing as a mil to a lorry driver they all think they are invincible.

Not just a “man thing” most of the belligerent ones at the moment are women, older ones at that. I have to tell my older sister ,64 that going on a retreat with 6 women friends and their dogs is not on, especially sharing a hot tub, I was given the answer it has chlorine, that doesn't stop this virus, only a complete lockdown and self isolation is going to prevent a lot. of deaths , lets alone being very ill if u get the virus. Unless the driver is one of those classed as essential workers, then he should be stopped. And coming back from Spain where it seem that it will be worse there than Italy is a warning siren

If he needed the money surely he could have taken holidays to cover his self isolation? I know that delivery drivers are exempt from the travel bans due to the nature of their work but he could have spread this virus far and wide. I wouldn't want that on my conscience. It is to be hoped that Pateley Bridge doesn't become a virus hot spot. He is being very selfish. I'm afraid it will have to come to younger people dying before some change their stance.

My neighbours have just returned from Spain (a week ago). He is a cab driver and she works. Both have been out working and shopping. I think this is disgusting. Although he is an arrogant man at the best of times I really thought they would have behaved better

Infuriating and very worrying! My dh was also planning to ignore advice and to go up north to see his family a few days ago but fortunately he seems to have finally started realising the dangers are real. It must be so frustrating for you.

Interesting how men ( my one anyway) can’t deal with minor illnesses but machos around when under the threat of Corona instead of self- isolating. I NEED theGuardian to read as I’m stuck inside after a knee op, but I could do without it. My husband jaunts off to town shopping and I’m not convinced he washes his hands properly on his return, or indeed has any real understanding of household hygiene. He’s my carer at the mo and I have to issue dictats about changing dishcloths and washing towels etc at a high temperature which is second nature to we girls. He has often accused me of having an unfocused mind, but he hasn’t had to clutter his up with domestic issues, remembering birthdays, being pro- active about running out of toothpaste etc. The younger generation of men ( mine’s 81) seem more hands on.

In other countries medical staff have died and the reporter said that it was thought to be because of the number of cases they dealt with.

I think there is another possible interpretation of these fatalities. From a common sense point of view I think the alternative answer is EXHAUSTION.

That is yet another reason to spread the load on the NHS.

Please report him - we have a duty to protect everyone else in the country!

I think some men feel they're between a rock and a hard place. They've been brought up to be the provider so it's ingrained in their psyche. Then we tell them to sit around when they feel well and only get £94 a week which they know won't be anything like what they earn. They're then torn. Do they work, risk others but provide for their families or do they isolate let their families do without to protect non-family. I can see both sides of the argument and I'm glad I don't have to make that decision.

He is be very irresponsible and should be stopped but how can that happen unless you report him?

My D is in the firing line when it comes to catching anything. She works in security and checks vehicles especially lorries coming off ferries from abroad and searches cabs randomly. She's still working because she's the only woman who can search female passengers.

I don't think she's been issued with anything protective either.
Police work with her too.

He earns good money as a lorry driver and the excuse he gave me was that he was providing for his family. I am sure that 2 weeks on SSP is a small price to pay for doing the right thing. He seems to think that because he is not displaying symptoms he does not have to abide by the rules.

Police have arrested a person on the Isle of Man for failing to self isolate.
