Unbelievable! What is wrong with these people? I think the police should have the power to arrest them on the spot and issue a huge fine. A night in the cells might make them change their minds.

If this lady, Chris, had not been in contact with people other than her husband in the week before she went shopping to Asda on the Saturday, and if she kept her distance from people while shopping and while going for a stroll and while sitting on the beach, and if her friend had also been effectively isolated but they both agreed that if they, by some remote chance, gave the virus to each other.... if all this.... what had she, or her friend, done wrong?

No thought for the hard pressed medical services who will have to care for her.

Most people recover from the virus, but there’s no cure for stupidity.

It doesn’t surprise me, perhaps she felt she was being sensible, in that she’d had a good life, and if it was her turn, then so be it. Obviously forgetting or overlooking the fact that she could have made it the “ turn” for many others as well.

By 22nd March, Italy had 5476 deaths. The UK is following a steeper curve, so we can expect to see a similar number. The people who die in two weeks will already have been infected before the Monday lockdown.

It’s completely shocking, but not at all surprising how many people will completely disregard advice. Many of them will say “because the rules didn’t start until Monday”.

careworkers have to go into people's homes, it's unavoidable. that's all the more reason why everyone else should
not circulate.

Equally shocking my friend who says she isn't 70 till August so she's going out and about, going into town shopping and had a friend stay over at the weekend. Both with health problems; one on meds for a leaky heart valve and the other has incurable cancer although doing well at this stage.

I guess we'll see a huge spike in cases two weeks from the crowded beach scenes and picnics in the park last weekend.

A newborn also contracted it---possibly from a staff member. ?The baby developed bronchitis and remains to be fighting.

EllenVannin is correct. By coincidence, I've just done the maths. Without restrictions, each infected person is on average likely to pass it on to two or three more people.

It takes 14 days from infection for symptoms to appear.

So …

Within 13 days, the chances are that 59,604 will be infected from a single source … and that's before the first person even realises that he/she is infected. Those 59,604 people will, of course, go on to infect even more.

Nobody seems to know the exact death rate because nobody knows how many people have actually been infected, but it would appear to be about 10% for those over 80 and just less than 1% overall. 59,604 infected people will possibly/probably cause 596 deaths … all from a single source.

Well I’ve just managed to drop a bag of shopping off for my dad. Telephoned him and left it at his front door . I then walked back to my car. His face appeared at the window and he waved a thank you . I just burst into tears . Waited until he came to the door and we had a sort of conversation from the road . Meanwhile 2 doors down a carer was going in to another bungalow .

Very shocked to learn that a twenty-one year old girl, no underlying health problems, has died today.

That brings home the danger of infection.

There are a lot of people out there who are stupid and won’t be told anything..if I get it I get it attitude and ...we are Brits Hitler didn’t beat us .....kinda stuff.

I had to tell dear friend off who had this attitude and I said ..

If you die your cat will probably have to be put down as nobody would take it in in this crisis. That did the trick.

On the other hand most people are being positive and complying with rules. That will make a big difference. Stay cool and keep washing your hands.

I just wondered why Jeremy Corbyn isn't at home. Politics aside, he's a public figure and it's a bad example. He can do absolutely everything from his home.

Some people, care workers, say, are having to go into the homes of old people who need care, and also to get on with their own lives.
Some teachers are having to go to school to teach/care for kids whose parents are key workers.
Many people do jobs that cannot be done from home.

One infected person can pass on the infection to 59,000 others. It's that lethal.

I think husband would have been with her except that he wasn't fit enough at the mo.

When the medical officer said on that first interview that people would not abide by any kind of isolation I thought he was wrong because I thought it’s obvious you have to do that. But people like that lady who insist on going out and contacting people are just irresponsible.

I feel so sorry for her poor husband who is recovering from a stroke!

So the woman was acting in contravention of the guidelines.

I get where she's coming from even if I wouldn't engage in such contraventions myself. Although, tbh, it's only really the visiting bit that contravened advice. We have to shop for food and getting some fresh air is allowed if you keep away from other people. It's not clear from the clip whether the woman had been near other people, other than her husband who was at home recovering after a stroke, and the friend she visited.
