I hope he recovers - I’ve followed his being ill at home, it sounded horrendous. He’s had a night in ICU but his family say he’s now back on the ward. Fingers crossed. A lovely man.

He is also on Radio 4 quite a bit. Glad to hear he is improving. We need positive news about people getting better.

Michael Rosen is the grey haired, bewhiskered man who wrote the poem, 'These are the Hands', in celebration of 60 years of the NHS.

You can see him on this video, in the company of others who share the reading of his poem: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDDGDuJrUCc

Sorry....who is Michael Rosen? Am I the only person who doesn't know who he is?

EthelJ Tue 31-Mar-20 21:37:38

I hope he recovers soon. I love his children's books and his campaign to encourage children to love reading.

sarahellenwhitney A children's book writer, former children's laureate, very caring about the less fortunate. Good speaker who did a lot to promote children's reading in schools.

Treading sensitive ground hmm who is Michael Rosen?

Callistemon Tue 31-Mar-20 14:33:00

Best known for We're Going on a Bear Hunt, moggie and very many other children's books. DGD loves them.

EllanVannin Tue 31-Mar-20 13:51:21

Don't know him but I hope he pulls through.

Greeneyedgirl Tue 31-Mar-20 13:42:06

I hope he recovers. I didn't know about the bullying campaign. I just hope after this is over we can be kinder to each other. Being nasty to others is so self destructive.

polnan Tue 31-Mar-20 13:41:43

Maisie hugs.... I understand what you are saying...

Bluecat Tue 31-Mar-20 13:38:35

Very sorry to hear about this. A decent man and much-loved by children. My granddaughters used to recite some of his poems by heart.

Get well soon, Michael.

Sorry to read this and hope he recovers quickly.

Bossyrossy Tue 31-Mar-20 12:05:05

Get well soon, Michael.

Seakay Tue 31-Mar-20 11:25:09

I hope that he recovers - I fear that the damage to his mental health resulting from the prolonged and vicious campaign of Rachel "I don't look like a typical Jew" Riley and her cohorts will have lowered his immunity and resilience.

Jaycee5 Tue 31-Mar-20 11:21:29

He has unfortunately been on the receiving end of a very nasty online bullying campaign (some of which spilled over to his family) and it is sad that that happened just before becoming ill. The stress can't have helped. He was courageous in standing up to it.
It has been very worrying news but good that he has now moved to a ward and hopefully people will be kinder now and remember that words have an effect.

I think I know what MaizieD means, but there's no getting away from his talent as a good writer and poet, especially for children. I've been recommended his book about the Dreyfus affair: 'The disappearance of Emile Zola', which I'm intending to read soon.

optimist Tue 31-Mar-20 11:13:08

We saw him at the Old Vic recently then audience of children parents and grandparents were so engaged wonderful and interesting man. I hadnt realised he was ill.

Albangirl14 Tue 31-Mar-20 11:11:50

I have been lucky enough to meet him on several occasions and have found him to be very down to earth and not requiring any special treatment in schools and at Book Festivals. Now my chidren are enjoying his books again with their children. I wish him a recovery to good health .
