Panache, I understand what you say about the pesky moles. Last year we only travelled to the Dordogne for a week but on return there were over 50 mole hills...but quite probably only one mole. We are surrounded by farmland and stables but we obviously have the tastiest worms in rural Brittany. They are little varmints,

I read a lot of the Gransnet posts...at my leisure; hours of fun.
My DP made a lovely lunch.
We sat outside pottering around in the garden.
I set my camera up on a tripod and leisurely took pictures of blackbirds and goldfinches.
In my job I am normally spinning so many plates, it was a refreshing way to spend my time.
I intend to do much of the same today.
What are your 'Because I Can' moments?

Lovely to hear your good news stories. I find the radio is so depressing.

I have just made a pot of coffee but it's the last one! I forgot to put coffee on my list and may have to wait till next week.

We had a lighthearted whatsapp with my in-laws today. They do not want to be put on ventilators or be separated or be resuscitated if the virus comes to them.

I have begun to tackle my tree pruning but alas it's one of those jobs that looks easy until you are up the ricketty ladder with the blunt secateurs.

Grammaretto I agree completely about the mole soil. It's so rich and really useful especially just now when we are in lockdown and could do with a bit of compost to grow the veggie seeds on.

Unfortunately a bit too late for this time round Doodle, the prescription goes automatically to the local chemist and will be there but thanks for thinking of that. I've taken over and made a huge pot of hot chocolate tonight so everyone can help themselves. Sleep well gov'nr Doodle. Lights out for me soon too.

That's good news Marydoll, hope you can order and get a delivery from them next time . If they've got the list for Scottish shielders then perhaps they will have the one for Wales sooner than I thought. I'll check it out again.

I have managed at last to register with Tesco. Apparently, they only received the Scottish sheilding list yesterday.

cherry I have heard that Boots and some other pharmacies are able to deliver medications. Could you try phoning one and asking if your DH can get his delivered?

I think the supermarkets are catching up with the list of shielded patients a bit more now. Hopefully, deliveries will get easier.

I'm ?that the situation vis a vis supermarket slots & deliveries in Wales is going to improve for us before too long Dreamkeeper. I received a letter from my LA a few days ago that stated that the main supermarkets have now been (finally) given the list of vulnerable residents in Wales. It'll probably be at least another week before that "registers" on the sites though.
Maybe not a laughing matter Carillion but (sorry) I did laugh at your mole problems. I've always had a mole problem but the problem I have is on my neck and face and the problem is getting worse as I get older ?. Still, I make up for it by being a hot woman, according to my niece1, who is also a hot woman - since we are both menopausal ?.

Hmm Doodle I wonder if I had an anonymous delivery from a supermarket, I would be buying all kinds of comfort food. As it is our deliverer angel is a friend who sometimes comments on our choices or suggests something worthy and high in vitamins etc

So many of you with issues with Grocery deliveries and we are too.Living in the backwater has many plus points but none are that evident since this virus hit the wider area!
Although on the vulnerable list it does not seem to count in Wales.
(Although I hasten to add Pembrokeshire welcomes you at any time Doodle)
Granted we had a big Tesco delivery last Saturday ......after a 3 week wait.Now other members here,including ourselves just cannot find another slot.Again we do not have some of the stores you mention,but it is certainly an outsize headache.

One resident just mentioned this afternoon that a Butcher`s in the next town not only delivers, but along with some groceries he brings home made sponges!Seems a rather queer mixture but certainly he has captured some orders!

Carillion your post reminded me of the massive problem we have left behind since moving........moles!! The little furry blighters virtually took over our small pony paddock when my husband could no longer take care of it,and what a mess they made in a short period of time.

So sorry to hear about your chemotherapy problems Dragonfly,although initially there seemed to be talk of it being curtailed here, my dear man,along with others that we know have had a continuation.In fact ours was delivered to our flat,a first,and the Nurse was fully gowned etc.Perhaps this is something well worth questioning?

I have discovered I get bad heartburn after eating fish. At least I am blaming the fish though it could have been the wine.

There are 3 local village shops taking orders for delivery Doodle. There is a baker's, a butcher's and a greengrocer's. The butcher's is quite expensive and charges £4 delivery, so that's not a "goer* for us. The greengrocer's is a bit more expensive than the supermarkets but not too bad and charges based on distance, £1 only for where we live so that's okay so we can order from them. The baker's is definitely out for us though as, whilst I don't have an allergy to wheat or anything, I have to be careful with bread as it can trigger bad acid reflux. It's weird, but Sainsbury's wholemeal bread is one of only a few I don't react to. Seems I'm a bit of an odd bod? !

I'm astonished that your doctor has said it was your decision to stop chemo dragonfly. I remember you telling us on another thread that he informed you that you were not having anymore, when you had anticipated having the last treatment. How he can be saying differently now is beyond belief. Hope you are okay and that the last therapy wasn't necessary as you were told it wasn't.
Thankfully, yes I will now have a delivery. I think I need to plan ahead a bit better with booking a volunteer though, guess I didn't try to book far enough in advance. We do still have one obstacle to overcome ? though. My partner has put in his prescription for his meds and really needs them (he has already run out of one completely) but again no volunteer until Monday. Not sure how he's meant to get them before then... ? He's thinking he'll have to go and get them but isn't really meant to as I am shielding so obviously he's in the same boat as I am. He desperately needs those tablets though☹️
It does sound like you've got your work cut out jenpax. I know your 9 year old DGN has to keep his studies up but as your DD is gardening perhaps some nature lessons could be a help to you all; types of plants, bugs, soil samples etc. It's also good for him to be outdoors and he could also do some physical education outside in the garden.

dragonfly yes I can see the problem. I have heard of thieves targeting cars with these before. What a shame for them.

Just to lighten the load. DH has been walking outside today in the garden (his spine op was on 7th janvier). He's been having a few stern conversations with the moles and given them a good talking to. Not a big place to walk around but he's loved the fresh air. Hoping the shops are now better stocked in the UK. We follow it every night on the news for hours. We've been very lucky here and the local growers market might be up and running again by 11th May when the next lockdown review will be undertaken in France. Think we're on day 31 of strict lockdown today but not sure. Take care all. Sending love and heartfelt moral support. Xxx

cherry my goodness you do have a lot to deal with. You certainly come over as a positive cheerful person. Hope you keep well and don’t hurt yourself. Glad you got your own personal delivery. Have you tried looking around for local basics suppliers. I just found out that a cafe in our town are doing basic baskets for people with different prices. With Sainsbury’s we have found you have to keep checking several times a day to see if a slot is available. They usually open two or three days in advance. Take care and keep well..

It was England but not a general NHS thing.

It was some years ago and was an experimental initiative put into place by the big teaching hospital where he was treated.

If Scotland is doing something similar I take my hat off to them.

Eglantine are you in Scotland also? It does seem a very good idea but I have not heard of it in England.

Oh Grammaretto , my husband had a type of Hospital at Home, though I think it was called something different where we were.

It was in the last stage of his leukaemia when he needed specialist end of life care and it only lasted for two weeks.

They took that decision because the leukaemia had entered his brain causing spells of confusion and distress in hospital and they believed rightly that he would be calmer at home.

I don’t know your circumstances and why they might suggest it for your husband but I would like to say that it worked very well for my husband and for us as a family

Cherry I am sorry you are having difficulty getting deliveries. I seem only able to get Sainsbury's so not sure how it works. So pleased to hear that you are getting a delivery tonight. It certainly does make life easier although I must say I have more food in than I usually have.

Grammaretto that is quite a decision to make. I received the copy of the letter my oncologist sent to my doctor today and he virtually said it was my decision to stop chemo when in fact the first thing he said to me was 'no more chemo'. This pandemic has certainly affected lots of treatments.

Doodle my DD lives over 100 miles away. Someone stole the catalytic converter from their car while they were away and of course they cannot get it fixed so it is difficult for her to pick the dog up. She is really missing him as he is missing them I suspect. On the other hand we have more time to look after him as they are both working full time from home. He has slept most of today so hoping that will help with the healing.

Marydoll, I can understand your excitement about the Iceland slot and delivery but , if it's not too personal a question, how did your video conference with the doctor go? I hope it went well ?
