My DH is on the shielded list. Just wondering how many others there are on GN and how you are coping with staying in all the time.

Eglantine21 Tue 07-Apr-20 14:00:43

I want one just like that ?
(Well not me exactly, but you get my drift...)

mamissimo this thread is for all of us in lockdown and you can post in it what you like. Especially if it’s a picture of a lovely cheeky baby ?

Hello Lock-down gang!
I'm enjoying the sunshine and sorry for those such as DS (and BradfordLass) who are heading into Winter.

I've just done an hour's yoga on zoom. I was late again! It took a while to get off the phone to tearful DD who is truly isolated, having recently moved to a new area, very rural - at least for those of us in the UK who are not used to being far from others -. She knows no-one , yet, and her DH has begun work leaving her with the 2 tinies. It would be hard at the best of times but now!!

Our dilemma is still whether or not to go for the hospital scan tomorrow. The consultant told him to come as usual but our DC are scared for DH and feel he's exposing himself to infection. The battle of the Big Cs.

Lovely picture and lovely news for you Mamissimo
and the stones! smile

@Eglantine she’s 7 months and desperate to do whatever her 2year old sister does......my DD is going to have her hands full for some considerable time,

Hopefully today you’ll get ?

nanaK54 Tue 07-Apr-20 10:16:14

There was another attempt to deliver a 'foodbox' to my DH early this morning, able to stop the very kind volunteer, we don't need this level of support and have made this clear on the Gov. website and in email replies.....all very much appreciated but just not needed
Other than that, the sun is shining, the garden beckons, so grateful that this didn't happen throughout the winter
Hope the day is as kind as possible to all in the 'lockdown gang'

Clever girl! How old is she?

What good news about your son too. A weight off your mind.

It’s another parcel opening day here. What’s in it???‍♀️

Mamissimo Tue 07-Apr-20 10:01:26

Mamissimo Mansion is bathed in sunlight this morning in many ways...my DS’s employer has enabled him to join my shielding team at home for 12 weeks on full pay. I cried! I really didn’t expect that level of corporate generosity from a supermarket. It has been such a concern having him coming home every night covered in heavens only knows what.

I also received a photo this morning that made me laugh - and I promise not to fill this thread with such stuff but it was irresistible! This is my youngest granddaughter Esme showing me her latest party trick ?

'Master of Paxwax' written by my friend Phillip Mann (a Yorkshire Kiwi like me), is a science fiction book but also broadcast as a serial and subsequently sold as a set of CDs - as was its sequel 'The Fall of the Families'.
The books are certainly still available from Amazon, the CDs are not.

I liked the radio series, despite not being a sci-fi fan, because the production and narrator were phenomenally good.
Dick Weir is a wonderful reader and also had a children's storytime series called 'Ears'.

Sadly, even the children of quiet NZ grew out of listening to a gentle radio story before bed.

For lovers of sci-fi, Pawl Paxwax wants to defy the accepted code and marry outside The Families (a bit like a king and a beggarmaid) and this is the story of the controversy it creates.

Evening all. Not sure I can suggest much eglantine. I’m like cherry love a good drama or crime series. If I find one I will let you know.
cherry sorry you had difficulty getting your meds. Quite a story ?
Yes GaGaJo it’s difficult when others are working by different rules isn’t it.
We have just had a Sainsburys delivery. All went well except for the bottle of wine which the delivery chap noticed had broken in the bag. He took it away but I had to wash off the other stuff in the bag to make sure it didn’t have glass in it. He was very nice and cleaned up outside for me. Oh well that’s one we won’t be drinking.?
Hope everyone is ok. Sleep well all ?

Sorry Eglantine I don't think I can help you as I feel very much in the same boat. TV seems to be a bit boring atm. I don't know the sort of things you like to watch. I like a decent drama/thriller/crime series myself. I will watch the last episode of Liar tonight but this second series has not been as good as the first.
The volunteer made her first drop off to me today, she collected my medications from the chemist. The chemist had to ring me because she gave them the wrong address (I had given it to her). Then after leaving the chemist she got lost and was having difficulty with the directions my partner and I were giving her. In the end my partner had to go out into the street and see if he could see her car coming the right way. Not sure if that means our lockdown has now been compromised ?. If it wasn't so funny, possibly serious but funny, I'd be worried now. Luckily, apart from my partner and her in the car (yes she got to our house in the end) there wasn't another living soul about. Can't make it up though really!!

Eglantine21 Mon 06-Apr-20 14:43:14

The (filled in) hole looks excellent Mamissimo

What is Master of Paxwax?
Can we get it in the UK?

I’m really struggling to find something worth watching in the evenings. All suggestions welcome. I have Netflix as well as the Freebox channel.

GagaJo Mon 06-Apr-20 14:28:32

A friend was going shopping today. I asked if he'd mind getting me the bits I can't get in my online order. He said it was fine.

THEN when he dropped it off, he was shocked that I wouldn't stand and chat in the doorway with him. WHY was he surprised??????? I haven't been out in 3 weeks.

Doodle Mon 06-Apr-20 14:28:09

Never heard of that Bradfordlass. Will look it up. Glad you’ve got your milk.

BradfordLass73 Mon 06-Apr-20 03:19:24

Finally found someone to get me a bottle of milk - she brought 2, bless her, so one has gone into and almost filled, my little over-the-fridge, freezer.

Have occupied myself most of the day writing The Lockdown Diaries blog and answering phone calls (6 at the last count and it's only about 2pm) from people asking if I'm all right but unable to offer any practical assistance if I said, 'No' grin I think it must be theoir Monday morning ritual!
Fortunately, I'm just fine.

Now I have milk, I feel confident I can soldier on for another week or more.

I don't usually have a granny-nap but today I'm going to snuggle under the duvet, play and episode of 'Master of Paxwax, and have a doze.

mamissimo that’s so lovely and the fact that all the stones mean something to you make it extra special.
Sleep well all

Callistemon Sun 05-Apr-20 22:34:40

I don't think I have a number, must check the letter.
I was leaving it for the requisite 72 hours.

dragonfly46 Sun 05-Apr-20 22:24:58

That is lovely Mamissimo

CherryCezzy Sun 05-Apr-20 22:04:13

This is the thing Callistemon it's not is it - yet .. it tends to be attributed to ?
Aneurin Bevin must be turning in his grave more like it!

Callistemon Sun 05-Apr-20 21:53:13

Is w.....g Welsh, CherryChezzy?
wink should I ask the DGD to translate?

Aneurin Bevan would not be happy, I think.

Mamissimo I am impressed.
My pebbles remain the rather dirty green colour.

lemongrove 3 am? Can he find slots for all of us? What a man! Treasure him. DH is snoring at 3 am.

CherryCezzy Sun 05-Apr-20 21:44:43

Welcome new gang members ?
I'm with Doodle on this Grammaretto best not to think about end dates at this point as it can draw you into thinking about either a stretch ahead that seems far away or a certainty that may be postponed. One day at a time and then one of the days will be the time.
I've done the contact and council thing hmm and the only help they could offer was a food parcel if I registered for one. No way, not for me.

Doodle Sun 05-Apr-20 19:34:43

gramaretto I think it’s wise not to think of an end date but just to keep going on one day at a time. That way if things don’t work out as planned we are not let down. We will all have birthdays and celebrations we might miss but we can always catch up later on. Staying safe at the moment is more important.
I’m another crafter. I’m making little stuffed houses at the moment . Have no idea why or what I’m going to do with them but it’s keeping me occupied. ?
Welcome dillylavender . Glad you were able to get a delivery. We are doing ok too. It seems a bit hit and miss across the country. Some can get supplies others not.
Those on the shielded list who haven’t been able to get deliveries, have you tried contacting your local council and see if they can help?
lemongrove your poor DH getting up at 3am. What are you doing ? ?.

Mamissimo Sun 05-Apr-20 19:31:32

Cheers! ?
My patience has paid off and my well washed rocks are in place! Some came from my Grandfathers garden, all the rest were ‘collected’ by family members over the last 50 years. All have a meaning for me, so it’s a special thing.

Had a bit of a wobble this morning. My DS is a manager for one of the big 4 grocery companies and he has his first member of staff in hospital. DS lives with us and our shielding arrangements are going to enter a new league if he has to isolate here!

We’ve wracked - and wrecked- our brains trying to think of alternatives but his intended’s family home is tiny and he wouldn’t have a bed ? I think I will insist that he strips off and runs to the shower as soon as he gets home.....(and then video the run and put it on FB)......?

Grammaretto Sun 05-Apr-20 19:13:30

Welcome DillyLavender!!

I am another crafty person though I have lost my mojo lately.

It's my DS and DGD birthdays today and I am tearful.
At least the weather has been nice for them and for us.

Do you think there is an end to lockdown in sight?

CherryCezzy Sun 05-Apr-20 18:50:04

No community shop here Grammaretto. I might have guessed it is Wales Calistemon it's a bl...y nightmare here!!! I was given a number, I'm sure I've already said, that I was assured would be very useful, needless to say it's about as useful as a chocolate teapot. I'd better stop moaning now - I don't want to get a reputation for being a Welsh w.....g ! ?

Callistemon Sun 05-Apr-20 18:26:39

DillyLavender
