My DH is on the shielded list. Just wondering how many others there are on GN and how you are coping with staying in all the time.

DillyLavender Sun 05-Apr-20 18:08:34

Can I join the gang please? I am not on 'the list' but staying indoors.
I am coping quite well, doing a lot of knitting & crochet for Charities which I do normally anyway, also trying to catch up on some reading & clearing the backlog of recorded TV programmes.

I will be 70 in June, so maybe another 'lockdown party'. grin

Have been lucky, had a supermarket delivery last Wednesday and have managed to book another for 20th April.

Stay safe everyone and take care

Grammaretto Sun 05-Apr-20 17:28:19

So far we have used our local community shop for deliveries. I phone with a list of wants and a box is dropped off at my door. I then pay by online banking.

They don't always have everything we need but we make do and we don't starve. There is the advantage that they sell local produce, vegetables, eggs and milk from nearby farms, local honey, bread, meat, groceries and household products. We are very proud of our community shop and feel it's come into its own at this time.
And yes, they sold charcoal toothpaste!

It will be more expensive but you only buy what you need and they don't sell alcohol.

I have never tried a supermarket delivery. It sounds complicated and stressful.

Callistemon Sun 05-Apr-20 17:21:09

CherryChezzy yes, it is Wales!
I had another reply from Waitrose who said they have allocated 25% of their slots to elderly (!) vulnerable customers whom they will be contacting. How will they know?

I await with bated breath.

CherryCezzy Sun 05-Apr-20 17:05:53

What system have they got?? If there actually is one it's pretty useless! It is definitely non existent in Wales. There's meant to be this contactless system in place so volunteers can get shopping for someone without having the person's card, just a printout but it's a nightmare on steroids!

Callistemon Sun 05-Apr-20 16:40:49

Get up

But fed up and somewhat het up too!

Callistemon Sun 05-Apr-20 16:40:18

No, no slots at all.

How lucky we are that we have kind neighbours and a DS only 30 minutes away, although it's not fair to ask him as he is working 6 days a week from home.

Do I have to fet up at 3 am

There should be a better system than this. I could organise one.

GagaJo Sun 05-Apr-20 16:06:59

Yes, that was how I was managing LG. But it IS getting harder. I may/may not have got a weekly slot with Asda. Not sure I trust them to be reliable though.

CherryCezzy Sun 05-Apr-20 16:04:41

The trouble with whispers is they are hard to make out Eglantine but it's not unlikely is it ?

lemongrove Sun 05-Apr-20 15:51:10

Hope that most of you at least, are managing to get online shopping done?
DH gets up about 3a.m and surfs all the sites, he has managed to get online deliveries for us for April, but May could be harder.
Just to tell you about a very good site we have used in the past called Field And Flower, they deliver very good quality meat products ( every fortnight) but you can cancel them when all this is over.I told a friend yesterday and she went onto the site and booked slots fortnightly from 28th April. Then at least you know you have all the meat needed for meals.

Alishka Sun 05-Apr-20 14:23:03

Thanks for the welcomesmile

My screen name btw, was the name a breeder gave to my Russian Blue cat, years ago...suitably 'foreign' and exotic, she thought...
Bloody Prima Donna we reckoned, who always insisted on the last word!

I took the name, but I've not adopted her charactersmile

eglantine grin

Eglantine21 Sun 05-Apr-20 14:09:28

What were the toilet rolls saying?

This is a bum job.......

I remember that red toothpaste?

Doodle Sun 05-Apr-20 14:00:47

cherry it’s quite windy here too. I was going to sit on the balcony but the wind is whipping round the corner so I’ve retreated inside.
N&G we are both staying in too. We live on our own and don’t really have any room to isolate from each other so I am staying in to keep DH as safe as possible.
bradfordlass your blog sounds a good idea. Sorry for the poor thing with morning sickness. Not nice.
grammaretto I listened to the Church service on the radio today. I thought it was very moving.
daisymae you be careful with your back too. No time for injury now.
nank54 send some of your sunshine my way please ☀️
Have a good day all.

Alishka Sun 05-Apr-20 14:00:01

Oh! that charcoal toothpaste, never really took off, did it? Wonder why!wink
But then, what was the name of the red t/paste which dyed your gums red, making your teeth white by comparison?
That was OK.

CherryCezzy Sun 05-Apr-20 13:55:05

dragonfly that sounds like a nasty injury your DGC has but she sounds like a very brave little girl. I hope she had a tetanus jab.
Now you've got more than a hole Mamissimo. I hope it turns out to be what I think it will.
A thread on dreams sounds good Eglantine. I had a strange dream at the beginning of the week. I dreamt that there was a stack of toilet rolls in the dining room and they were whispering ?! The odd thing was that my partner and I had managed to buy some the day before.

Doodle Sun 05-Apr-20 13:53:03

Alishka welcome. By all means come in and natter. It’s the only way to pass these 12 weeks ?
mamissimo ohh how exciting. It sounds as though real progress is being made. Will there be a picture when it’s finished please? ?
bluesky that’s nasty for your DH. Hope he gets better soon.
dragonfly my goodness what a shock. Poor girl is she ok?
callistemon there is no end to the bits and pieces I find lurking in cupboards and drawers. I was looking forward to having a packet of coconut rice with my dinner the other night till I saw the date on the bottom ?. I’m too ashamed to tell you how long it has lurked in my cupboard.blush
Eglantine keep trying Sainsbury’s they are starting to release some slots.

Eglantine21 Sun 05-Apr-20 13:07:25

I got that message from Sainsbury too

Callistemon Sun 05-Apr-20 13:02:58

A reply from Waitrose:

In essence
Sorry, but sorry, no but yes but we are doing our best.

Sorry if you starve.

Callistemon Sun 05-Apr-20 12:11:30

4 paracetamol in an old handbag
A sample tube of charcoal toothpaste (opened and I thought perhaps not).

Callistemon Sun 05-Apr-20 12:10:28

Oh, and I found a sample tube of charcoal toothpaste which I had opened and thought, perhaps not.
A last resort!

Eglantine21 Sun 05-Apr-20 12:10:05

I think the way dreams have taken on board the Corona crisis is v interesting.

Perhaps I’ll start a new thread about it?

Eglantine21 Sun 05-Apr-20 12:08:21

Not an advance, but I did find two of those little sample tubes of toothpaste that I obviously picked up sometime in the past and a bottle of shower gel that I won for coming second at a quiz night. If my DP hadn’t contradicted me about the name for dandruff I would have had a whole set of toiletries!!

Also a cereal bar in my rucksack.

Callistemon Sun 05-Apr-20 12:02:31

Washing my rock collection
That has conjured up quite a vision. grin

I woke this morning remembering a dream I'd just had which was obviously caused by anxiety and included acquaintances and old colleagues. It was quite a relief to find a nice brew on my bedside table which DH had made for me.

Has anyone else been on a Treasure Hunt?
I found some very useful items which I may need one day soon, when I explored cupboards and drawers.

▪︎Half a tube of children's toothpaste for ages 8-12
▪︎Half a tub of facecream left by DD
▪︎Tablets of soap in underwear drawers
▪︎A few toiletries in an old M&S Advent calendar
▪︎A jar of Branston pickle C2015
▪︎some ancient Fortnum and Mason tea in a nice tin - will it
be ok to drink? Probably 20 years old

Any advance on those?

dragonfly46 Sun 05-Apr-20 11:49:57

The mind boggles Mamissimo.

I do hope you get to Rome again Mary. I have the same feelings about seeing my friends in Holland again. But I am determined I will.

My DS FaceTimed this morning early to tell me he had spent the evening in A&E with DGD. She jumped on a 2 inch spike! She was very perky this morning though. So much fo staying at home.

I am off to cut the front lawn now - I hope that is okay for me to do.

BlueSky Sun 05-Apr-20 11:28:37

DH has been put out of action thanks to a very timely attack of sciatica so I've taken over all the jobs he usually does and I'm now all stiff! OK I can't grumble I'm bored!
