My friend's daughter has been on holiday in Scotland. She's due home on Sunday (tomorrow).
Will she be allowed to drive home 200+ miles or will she have to stay where she is?
They tell us not to leave the house except for the 4 specific reasons. Is this a permitted journey? I don't want to be a kill joy but I rather think she'll be expected to stay in the hotel. This will cost her of course.

ExD, I would have made the same remark. In fact I made my disapproval clear when DD went to Glasgow for the weekend - and that was the weekend before the close down. She only went for 2 days and by Sunday evening she was back at home, ready to close down on the Monday. But I still felt she acted foolishly in not cancelling it and told her so.

This lockdown will certainly have to be extended from (when is it?) next week end so personally I think she should get herself home pdq and self isolate, I must say the lady who runs the B&B has been very kind to allow her to stay this long!
I have no more news because my friend is, I think, now my ex friend as she didn't like a remark I stupidly made about why the h*ll was her daughter there in the first place. It was a stupid remark and not helpful, and I should have kept my mouth shut.

SV123, I don’t think the government is claiming that there’s necessarily any fairness as such in what is happening but my understanding is that the aim is to restrict as much movement as is practically (and emotionally) possible. For children to have no access to their other parent for months, would be a very hard thing to stop.....so I think they’ve had to accept that they need to allow it. I’m sure there are other individual exceptions as well....

She should go home and then I believe, if she follows the guidance, she should isolate for two weeks. In fact, I think she should have come home when the government did the lockdown, nearly two weeks ago. Or not gone in the first place.

The hotel is probably closing. In fact I am surprised it is still open.

In Germany you can always return to your normal residence in fact that’s where you’re supposed to be. So I would guess she can travel straight home . Where do you find out ? Police station ?

How long has she been there, a flipping long holiday seeing as the lock down was two weeks ago. Plain ignorant to go in the first place. Was she in lock-down while up there, I doubt that very much. Make her stay where she is away from the rest of her family and friends and then she may see sense.

The chief medical officer has been warned about visiting her second home. Did she think that the instructions did not apply to her? How arrogant!!

What I want to happen is that people arriving home from abroad should be immediately tested

Labaik Sun 05-Apr-20 13:35:12

My neighbours stood on their doorstep and chatted with two friends for over an hour yesterday; certainly not 6 ft apart. Local country park has people picknicing on tables/benches that the police taped up the other day...

Alishka maybe he's decided to deep clean then while he has time.Thats what my OH is doing today,he has two cars and a van on the drive and hes working his way round them,Inside and out

Why is it acceptable to take a child from their home to a public place to be handed over to the father and driven on a 30 min journey to his house and then returned a week later after being in contact with ??
Yet we have to stay home and don't mix with family or friends who don't live in our house. To only go out for shopping, exercise or to go to work if unable to work from home.
How is this right??

notanan2 Sun 05-Apr-20 13:14:08

Theres nothing wrong with turning an engine over

Alishka Sun 05-Apr-20 13:04:59

My prat neighbour has parked his fixed-roof car on the drive of the empty house to the right of me,in splended isolation, while he's got his convertible car out of the garage to sit on his drive.
So...what's he gonna do? Sit in it and wait for the breeze to blow his scurf out?
Hasn't he heard of Head and Shoulders?
Much more importantly, tho, two words...'Self Isolation'?

notanan2 Sun 05-Apr-20 13:04:35

It' all very well for people to say Why did she go in the first place ???

Yes and people have such short memories. Maybe they didnt themselves travel but they were all out at cafes/hairdressers/clothes shops etc a few weeks ago

ALANaV Sun 05-Apr-20 13:01:15

It' all very well for people to say Why did she go in the first place ??? how judgmental ...they do not know the circumstances in which some people travel. It could have been she went before the lockdown when no one anticipated this ! a friend had her daughter from Australia here for Christmas and New year and she intended going back home in late Spring. However, all plans were scuppered and she went to Heathrow and just waited until she could fly home. She, like many, had no idea back in December this would happen ….hindsight is a wonderful thing to have !

My neighbour has had his girlfriend staying over on 3 separate occasions since we have been on lockdown. On one occasion she brought two children with her. Words fail me.

4allweknow Sun 05-Apr-20 12:52:51

Well the Chief Medical Officer for Scotland drove 40 miles to check on her 2nd home this week taking her family with her. Had an outing to the beach, stayed overnight then drove 40 miles back to Edinburgh. Surely the girl will be allowed to drive home as long as when she gets there and there and if others in the home they all self isolate for the given period to make sure she hasn't introduced the virus. May need to think about comfort breaks on her journey, will enough places be open and not crowded. Sure she will make it, the Medical chief did!

An interesting discussion, but it seems to me that you are all commenting on the basis of how you understand the official guidelines.

it would be more helpful surely to post a link to the official guidelines?

CherryCezzy Sun 05-Apr-20 12:18:33

She should definitely return home and she should abide by the minimum 14 days quarantine. Many B&B's are still open (unlike most other types of hotel) as there are many long term occupants who are living in them. Many are being used as temporary accommodation for people, often with families, who would otherwise be homeless.

Nonnie Sun 05-Apr-20 11:56:17

polnan there has been quite a lot on the radio about abuse and apparently extra resources are available to them. If they can't talk on their phones they just have to tap them and get help from the person on the other end. Not quite sure how it works but it did sound effective.

nannypiano Sun 05-Apr-20 11:52:31

I am wondering about the cruise people returning yesterday who are asked to self isolate. They will need food supplies and obviously mix with others when they have been in close contact with infected people. So surely this will spread the disease greatly.

polnan Sun 05-Apr-20 11:51:33

another selfish person, though I do understand why..

however.
what about the abused people, who we are told are forced to remain in the abusive situation? why can`t they get out then?

Aepgirl Sun 05-Apr-20 11:41:31

Why did she go away?

Beanie654321 Sun 05-Apr-20 11:40:01

She can return home, but as been as we have been isolating now for some weeks what in earth possessed her to go away in first place. Very unfair on others.
