We have always seen runners in our neighbourhood, especially in the early morning. It's usually the same old faces, we haven't really noticed any more than usual.

Surley it's a good thing that they are keeping fit and out of trouble, as long as they don't cough or a sweat over anyone!

Now if you want to talk about cyclists, I never seen so many, as I have recently.
Riding on the pavement, footpaths etc. in residential areas.?

Chewbacca anyone running round their sofa, if it was a small sofa, and the runner was going at any speed, would either get very dizzy or disappear up their own..............

The Vicar does seem to only run around the village, he may indeed run around his sofa in between times, but I know nothing about his indoor habits.

I've been wishing I was a runner lately.

I muse on the fact that at one time the only runners we saw were folk running for a bus. I remember my mother breaking into a little skip type of thing with her handbag on one arm and the other arm extended.

Now we are surrounded by lycra and all the accoutrments.

I just don't get this 'hatred' for runners all of a sudden. My husband is a very keen runner and has run lots of marathons and half-marathons, making £1000s for charity over the years. He has been out training quite early recently as to not inconvenience anyone else. I only jog a few miles at a time these days, but we are both in our 60s and have no medical conditions, nor are we on any medication. I can't be sure that this is attributed to our lifestyles, but surely this is a good thing? I suspect that a lot of serious runners are probably sick of the ambling couples hogging the entire pavement while out for their daily exercise. We have to live and let live!! Oh and my last trainers were from the charity shop actually!

I'm jealous---I'd do it if I could.

grin Phoenix; I have a mental image of a jogger running round and round his sofa!

Some people are pathologically grumpy, I guess, maw.

A healthy heart is one of the major factors in surviving CV so good on them. Why on earth should it irritate you - regardless of whether their trainers cost £200 or were £20 pumps from Shoezone?

Oh dear, with a pandemic that's causing so many deaths worldwide, you're having a moan about runners. As merlotgran says many of them will be keeping up their training for the charity runs now postponed for many months.

If only I were fit enough to run. Jo Wicks for the elderly is about my limit these days.

merlotgran Sun 12-Apr-20 20:33:51

Hospices are going to be sorely in need of the donations they normally get from marathon runners. The London and Paris marathons have both been postponed until October so somehow runners have to keep up their training throughout Lockdown and the hotter summer months.

DD has ordered a treadmill but also gets up at 6am every morning to go running.

At least at that time of the morning she can't be accused of huffing and puffing and sweating near anyone.

Oopsadaisy3 Sun 12-Apr-20 20:24:26

Why are you sick of them? They aren’t harming anybody, only their joints in later age.id rather a runner than a cyclist that you can’t hear until they are right behind you.

phoenix Sun 12-Apr-20 20:20:15

Erm, probably not!

Thank heavens in our village the only person that actually seems to do proper running, in all the kit etc, is the vicar!

Greymar Sun 12-Apr-20 20:11:38

How on earth did we survive before the dawn of lycra and 200 quid shoes.. I am sick of the pavement pounders, huffing and puffing and sweating. Can't they do it at home?
