Covexit - how would YOU manage it?

I dont think its a topic you can get in trouble for,Eglantine21,you can say what you like,and yes it would be good to know who were the fools who didnt care (all the thugs and asbo holders i imagine,would be first out on streets!) And folk who think it never applied to them in the first place! I think china and italy are ending their lockdowns far too early,and i cant see how anyone going back out in the near future is going to stop this virus,it will just start it all up again,as theyve not been able to test any of the general public!

I have been quite happy staying at home for the past 5 weeks,I shop on line and my son does shopping for me too,so i am not in any hurry to go anywhere yet.And i wont be rushing out when the all clear arrives either.Would rather be safe than sorry.

What we need is a decisive government.. not one that has taken its time to act and is now unable to co ordinate provision of PPE for those on the line .. doesn’t bode well for a lifting of lockdown situation ... someone in charge needs to get their act together ... and I know I won’t be voting them back in ..it’s a good job we have a few sensible individuals out there with their organisational heads screwed on the right way making a bit of progress

Lucca- my paper this morning says over 70s to stay in lockdown. I am in shock. Not quite over 70 but my husband is.

As I said in a previous thread, currently some hairdressers are making a list of the order customers will be seen. Have a look on website. Hairdressers and barbers should open first, and nail bars! After a month or so, acrylic nails will be half-grown out.

Why are you in shock hapgran. I’ve bern reconciled to a long haul for us older and most vunerable from the start.

I would still be extremely cautious in covet exit, would not be thinking of going to hairdressers for a while after it, still be social distancing, and would not be meeting friends for while either,

Hapgran I sympathise which is more than can be said for others on this thread. Hetty58 such a kind response to someone feeling desperately unhappy.....not.
It’s not all about pulling your socks up stiff upper lip etc, emotions can be hard to control at times, and this time for me was this morning. I’ve always know we were in for a long haul, but I guess seeing the words “more than a year” just brought it home to me.

We are going to have a birthday party to celebrate all those who were unable to enjoy a party on their lockdown birthday, including me!!

The trouble with opening primary schools early is that we don't know if younger children are super spreaders. Some parents/grandparents will be vulnerable and as a Teaching Assistant for nearly 30 years, I would feel very concerned at nearly 65 years old.

Until there is an effective vaccination. I can't see much change in our attitudes.

No they havent Beanie654321,but you could provide your own PPE,in rubber gloves,facemasks,and maybe fashion 'over clothes' cover from plastic or even binbags?

Maybe by the time we get to that point anyway surely they will have sorted out the lack of things they need.we hope.

We cannot afford for this to go on forever - the country would be bankrupt! They keep saying - we'll put 2 million into this or that, we'll pay 80 percent of people's wages, - we'll be heading for a deep recession now - the longer it goes on the more it will cost ALL of us. Those of us on pensions will have to pay too - much higher taxes, and pension freezes, I would imagine. The country needs to get back to work and earning - not everyone can work from home or at a distance!

Spain has opened factories and construction sites first as these are less likely to encourage passing of the virus - this seems sensible. Denmark have opened schools first, as education is suffering - children find social distancing practically impossible - and pass infection freely - in my opinion, a mistake!

I would like to see factories , construction sites, DIY stores and garden centres open first - but with social distancing in place; followed by a gradual opening of other stores and businesses, those that can be socially distant first, and with bars, cinemas, theatres and places of entertainment last.

Longer lockdown for us, at least means we can see the results of other countries' opening stratergies.

We can't just put children at risk just so the parents can work,and i for one won't be sending my youngest (he's 17 today! - very quiet birthday!) back to college straightaway- as he's been shielded due to health issues..and some of my grandchildren too have some health problems,so wouldn't be a great idea for them either.

I would carry on much as normal but would love to have my family stay so we have a real house full ???‍??‍??‍??‍?I want to get a swing sorted out for my GS 1st birthday and have a big meal with champagne for both DD and their DH and babies.
I would not travel further afield than Plymouth and will be wearing my mask at all times. I will try to carry on cycling and walking locally rather than use the car.We should have grown most of the veg we need by June so less need to shop outside the village.
The dentist is my priority as I cracked my tooth and was due to have a repair done but then the dentist shut.

Travel out of the UK is going to have to wait. We normally go to the house we have in May and September to work on the renovation and we use the train but there is no way Id do this until the virus is less widespread.

Although I obviously understand the reason for the lockdown I also feel that I am wasting my life just staying in all the time. I am well over 70 but very active with clubs dining out etc. Ok I can amuse myself at home but not having any social life is hard especially for people on their own. My GP says there will be a lot of mental health problems before this is all finished. As for keeping over 70s in indefinitely I’m horrified by that. Who knows how much time we have left anyway

As someone trapped between exchange and completion I fervently hope estate agents, solicitors and removal firms are among the first to be allowed out, although I think removal firms would be really problematic. How do you maintain social distancing when lifting a sofa together?
