When we are eventually allowed outside will you be wearing a mask? Some countries have made it mandatory but the WHO were saying the other day that it dosn’t necessarily protect you. If you were infectious but didn’t know it might stop you infecting others if you coughed on them. But would it make you feel safer by wearing one and what sort would you wear?
I think I might, I just don’t know.

Please do more research re CO2 and masks.

Please.

No - only for short while for mandatory places like hospitals/opticians/dentists.
I knew masks were not good for you and just seen an experiment which proves the level of CO2 when worn.

I will be wearing a mask.

UK Governments guidelines are to wear face coverings when social distancing is not possible. My interpretation of that is if I were to use Public Transport, Taxis, go into a small shop, hairdressers etc it is advisable to wear a face covering

I read that a bus driver in France has been attacked and since died after trying to enforce mask wearing on his bus.

Before they were readily available to buy, I made masks out of an old cotton pillowcase, from a pattern I found online.

I’ve been going out to a limited extent all along, but only wear a mask in shops and on the bus (twice lately but didn’t take buses for ages).
I’d also wear one anywhere crowded out of doors, but have yet to go anywhere like that.

It’s not mandatory anywhere yet.......mores the pity

allium Sat 11-Jul-20 08:35:42

Only in locations where mandatory other than that not bothered

If wearing a face covering in enclosed spaces helps limit the spread of the virus, why aren't we all doing it? Why wait? Come on, Boris, get on with it!

Lucca Sat 11-Jul-20 08:25:43

So cross I didn’t edit my post. “The fact” should read “the govt “.

Lucca Sat 11-Jul-20 08:24:34

Just started to look at The Times and got so furious, reading that the fact/Boris is “set to make mask wearing compulsory within the next few weeks”. WHY are we always lagging behind ? Why isn’t it done now ? Delay delay delay should be Boris’s next theee word slogan

Why on earth wouldn’t you?

* I'm educated enough to know that I could be asymptomatic and still give you the virus.

*No, I don't "live in fear" of the virus; I just want to be part of the solution, not the problem.

*I don't feel like the "government controls me". I feel like I'm an adult contributing to security in our society.

* If we could all live with the consideration of others in mind, the whole world would be a much better place.

*Wearing a mask doesn't make me weak, scared, stupid or even "controlled". Makes me caring.

* When you think about your appearance, discomfort, or other people's opinion of you, imagine a loved one - a child, father, mother, grandparent, aunt, uncle or even a stranger - placed on a ventilator, alone without you or any family member who is allowed at his bedside.

Yes indeed I'm wearing a mask when I go out where there are other people! In the supermarket, which is the only place I've been up to now, but we'll be going to Costa Coffee tomorrow and also to some non essential stores which are now opened, and I will definitely be wearing my mask there. I have to say that in every store I"ve been in , in the last few weeks I'm definitely in the minority here in the south of England when it comes to wearing masks, it's very worrying.

Nicola Sturgeon actually explained to people why it was necessary for people in Scotland to wear masks. If only we had politicians in England that were capable of having a grown up conversation with people about the need to wear them maybe people would embrace the idea.

welbeck Fri 10-Jul-20 23:23:11

clearer stricter govt guidelines, leading to greater compliance, leading to fewer infections ? i think, hope so.

welbeck Fri 10-Jul-20 23:21:45

no wonder they want to be independent.

Friend just msgd me from Stornoway ,she was going to the Co-op and decided to sit outside for a wee while to see how many were wearing masks ,she counted 74 ..thats everyone who came out in the half hour she was there .Well done Stornoway .Glad to see so many complying wth the advice,Police Scotland posted that they are relying on folk to be sensible but they will fine anyone who refuses to comply.

Went to Sainsburys this morning and everyone was wearing masks including the staff. Glad I am in Scotland. It is not infallible but reduces the level of spread and if everyone wears one others protect you and you protect others. This is a danger point when we start emerging from lockdown and so does the virus. It is still there.

Lucca Fri 10-Jul-20 14:09:44

Why can’t masks be made compulsory in England ??

BlueSky Fri 10-Jul-20 13:52:58

Well done Scotland! Such a simple step, try going to Europe without a mask!

I think that's the second time today that I've seen you use the term "elderly" for GNers, GagaJo!! I know you're still working and so may be younger than most of us, but "elderly" indeed! How very dare you? (And no, of course I'm not jealous that you are younger than me...) grin

Actually, I came on here to say that I wore a no-sew mask made out of a cotton square and 2 hair bands today as it is now compulsory in shops here, and it was surprisingly comfortable. The recipe is on the BBC site and various other places. Haven't read the whole thread, so someone has probably mentioned them already.

BlueSky Fri 10-Jul-20 11:37:33

GagaJo I was wondering who you were referring to as 'elderly'! Certainly not Luckygirl! Luckygirl please don't get too upset over this, that's the result of trying to avoid all contacts. We are all in danger of becoming recluse!

mcem Fri 10-Jul-20 11:36:07

Here in Scotland masks are mandatory in shops as from today.
Happy to comply!
If nothing else, my mask warns other shoppers that I'm taking this seriously and shows I expect them not to get too close.
I am 'happy' with the way the pandemic has been handled here and feel reasonably safe now I'm out n about.

GagaJo Fri 10-Jul-20 10:36:59

Luckygirl, I would call/email the agent and complain. That was so selfish. Putting an elderly person at risk in their own home. Someone you’re paying!

Luckygirl Fri 10-Jul-20 10:00:31

Someone from the estate agent's office came yesterday to create a video tour of the bungalow to go on the website. I explained that I was in a vulnerable group and asked him to wear mask and gloves so as to avoid shedding virus all over the surfaces.

He set off into the house and did his thing while I kept out of shot in the garage. I did peep out to see what he was doing through the window and he was wearing the mask - but only over his mouth! What an idiot! I despair!
