>Why on earth do people thing “signing a petition” is somehow being proactive?

Presumably because doing something is inherently more proactive than doing nothing?

Signing a petition is about as useless a defence against Covid19 as the Donald’s disinfectant advice.
Why on earth do people thing “signing a petition” is somehow being proactive?

viruses are pesky creatures - i think we need to do what we can fight them!

only takes about 20seconds to sign the petition...

I was out this morning to do my weekly shop and more than half the people I saw , including me, were wearing one. Makes a petition somewhat redundant.

a video about what they did in the czech republic.

if you believe we should all be wearing masks, you could just sign the petition and/or paste it on to other websites, facebook and twitter accounts...

thank you

have a good day!

And to keep the thread going ...... yes I would wear a mask and have done on airplanes. But at the moment I’m only taking an occasional short walk or short car ride to vets for meds for poorly cat.

rosecarmel, I so agree with you. I have been annoyed for years (not constantly but at the time around Christmas when Flu strikes everyone) with family, former colleagues and friends who think they are being stoic still out and about working socially when infected, putting me -and others- at risk of catching their germs and having exacerbated asthma which colds and flu trigger in me. The problem is they don’t tell me beforehand so I can stay away. They tell me when they are sitting 3 feet away!! That’s my rant for the day over, promise.

Why are people against them, surely anything that just might help protect you and others should be used. I have been wearing mine since mid March, I don't care what others think, as far I am concerned I am stopping the spread by wearing it and hopefully receiving some protection as well. If they didn't work why are NHS staff wearing them?

Germany is now apparently having problems in supply of masks to medical services since wearing for the public became compulsory.

Harris I’d rather look stupid and be protected and protect others.
I wore one on Friday going into the chemist and no one batted an eye.
It’s very common in some countries, they are considering checking if the virus can be carried along on exhaust fumes etc.
So it isn’t even people you are at risk from.
For me to feel safer until a vaccine comes out, I will wear a mask, I already look ‘stupid’ and will, until I get to a hairdresser, anyway.

Harris27 Sun 26-Apr-20 20:31:21

I’m not wearing one unless I’m absolutely told to do so they make me nervous yes I’m asthmatic but I would feel stupid wearing one and can’t stand anything over my face!

But people can still do that MayBes if it isnt maditory

And it shouldnt be as its not a one size fits all situation.

Mandated masks means a deaf person couldnt ask you to temporarily lower your mask so they could lip read etc

But people who wear masks will be doing it to protect people with COPD who are very high risk. It isn't something we do to protect ourselves; we do it to protect others. Which is why it's great that young people are doing it as, thankfully, thus far they are still very low risk.

I did say public transport and supermarkets. Not parks etc. Other countries seem to be able to embrace it with no problems.

Just because other countries are seen doing it doesnt mean its problem free! You WONT see the COPD sufferers who avoid going out because the extra layer just make it too hard to breath. Theyre not in the news footage. Its all fit youngsters trotting around in them on ths news from those places!

This virus in particular is a novel virus- And they are discovering new things about it daily- It's causing clotting issues- It can damage organs- It can be carried aloft on participate matter and travel further than 6 feet- It can survive on a variety of surfaces-

It's a rapidly evolving situation-

BlueBelle Sun 26-Apr-20 19:34:49

Seeing the latest news it looks as if it’s going to be a recommendation so I d better get moving Can’t see the point if you’re not going where people are but hey ho I m not a rebel

notanan2 Sun 26-Apr-20 18:37:59

Why? We went to a quiet park of a park today so far away from others we could barely see them. Why wear masks there?

MayBee70 Sun 26-Apr-20 18:28:27

It needs to mandatory and it will be.

LullyDully Sun 26-Apr-20 18:26:28

I shall wear one of it is recommended but there do seem to be a lot of problems with them. Not everyone agrees they are necessary as yet, so I shall wait and see.

MayBee70 Sun 26-Apr-20 18:20:01

I don't think you'd necessarily have to wear masks all the time but it's surely important to wear them on eg public transport and in supermarkets to protect the staff; it's the least we can do for them. I know for a fact that, if I sneeze [which I'm doing a lot these days; touch of hay fever I think] unless I have a tissue actually in my hand at the time I don't have time to find one and cover my mouth. I may be wrong about this and, if I am I'll eat my hat [or mask] in a few months time, but I reckon the youth of this country will embrace the wearing of masks and we'll need to follow their example.

Rosalyn69 Sun 26-Apr-20 18:16:12

I will wear a mask when I go out again. It will make me feel more comfortable.

rosecarmel Sun 26-Apr-20 17:39:57

Maybe people would talk less as a result of mask wearing-
A blessing "in disguise"!

Get it??

rosecarmel Sun 26-Apr-20 17:37:28

I do suppose it doesn't have to be mandatory to wear masks- The decision could be left to the individual to decide if they "want" to spread the virus- Or not-

That actually makes more sense-

Not!
