One minute silence.

It has just been brought to my attention that there is to be a minute's silence at 11am today to honour all front line workers who have died during this pandemic.
I don't know how it escaped my notice, but will be please to take part. Anyone else going to observe it?

Not everyone seemed aware of the silence. There were roofers and gardeners working - and a chap revving his car engine too.

All 100 are there - their photos, their names, their stories. Let’s show them the respect they deserve.

Let’s not get sidetracked - it’s important to focus on the people we were remembering

In our little Labour run area----goes without saying doesn't it ? Where ignorance is bliss-----

Let’s focus on the people we were remembering today.

Along with the grass-cutters who carried on through the minute silence !

SirChenjin Tue 28-Apr-20 22:39:12

At least he was able to return to work - unlike the 100 NHS and care sectors workers we remembered today.

EllanVannin Tue 28-Apr-20 22:37:36

It takes bloomin' weeks before you feel anything like human after that virus. I think Boris has returned too soon.

SirChenjin Tue 28-Apr-20 22:37:03

Yes I did - our team observed it as did many others in our Board. I looked through the photos of each one individually to pay them my respects. Just heartbreaking.

Is it Tuesday today? Oops.

CanadianGran Tue 28-Apr-20 21:38:31

We had a few minutes of silence for all workers killed or injured on the job. We recognize it every year on this date.

This year it was special in that after the silence, all the machinery in our port sounded their horns in salute; which was very touching.

25Avalon, do you really not understand that 'those who have given their lives' were put in an impossible dilemma? They felt duty bound to continue their work without adequate PPE.

Do you never question the facts? In normal times, it's unusual, yet possible, to be monitored in ICU with just oxygen mask treatment.

In these pandemic times, only those requiring ventilation are likely to be there - oh, and the exception that proves the rule, out PM, with oxygen mask, in his little side room!

Yes - very moving.

lemongrove Tue 28-Apr-20 21:27:06

I didn’t know it was happening until I happened to see the lunchtime news.

BradfordLass73 Tue 28-Apr-20 21:23:03

I observed it in silene - and tears.

Candelle Tue 28-Apr-20 11:37:08

We observed - the very least we could do.

However, without being political, it is an absolute disgrace that not enough PPE was (and in some cases still is not) available for front line staff. Just disgusting.

GagaJo Tue 28-Apr-20 11:35:34

I didn't know about it and was online teaching anyway.

I would have made my students do it with me if I'd known.

“ Better love can no man show than to give their life for another” it says in the Bible.

25Avalon Tue 28-Apr-20 11:23:09

Hetty 58 please stop trying to score points. Boris owes his life to our wonderful NHS and it is only right he should pay his respects to those who have given their lives.

Hetty58 Tue 28-Apr-20 11:14:33

Spot on Larsonsmum! I observed the silence - with great respect to those who lost their lives.

I silently seethed as Boris appeared on TV (in a strangely stilled shot) and thought of the gross hypocrisy of 'paying respects' to those he so very badly let down!

grannylyn65 Tue 28-Apr-20 11:13:19

Yes I did

shysal Tue 28-Apr-20 11:11:50

I found it very emotional. I found it strange to note that the BBC froze the picture of Boris and others. Did they think he would not keep still?

Larsonsmum Tue 28-Apr-20 11:09:38

Yes, just did. The loss of life in these sectors has been CRIMINAL in many cases, when due to absence of PPE.

Puzzler61 Tue 28-Apr-20 11:07:59

Selfless. ?

Puzzler61 Tue 28-Apr-20 11:07:40

Such dedicated professionals who have tragically lost their lives and they would most probably say they were “just doing their job”s.
