I predict another rise of covid

Lockdown was always half hearted and no where near as stringent as in some other countries. Today the impression is that it's lifted but officially it's officially still in place. A bit. Here and there. It feels like a surge in infection is inevitable

I agree MayBee. Lockdown has had results, but we need to continue and go further. There are currently very few people who are showing symptoms or are infected but not showing symptoms. They need to be traced and isolated. Those who need to be isolated need to be given every support possible to stay at home and not feel that they are forced to work because they need the money.

But there are more things we can do to help. Mandatory mask wearing in public places. Hand sanitiser everywhere. Open windows where possible. Some countries I believe have things in the street that take peoples temperature and can pick out those that are infected. More cleaning of public places especially toilets. Tracing, testing containing. We're learning more and more about the virus. But we're not imposing those measures fast enough.

How can there not be a surge? What would stop it? There is no cure for the virus.

i had to get three young teenagers to move from the bench in our communal gardens .they said they were cousins .do you all live in the same house. em no they said .ok says me i need you to move from the bench .one/ because you are smoking weed.2. /because you are not 2 metres apart. and 3. because i'm over 60 with health problems .oh they said why you out then? .me .because i am watering the flowers .its my exercise.. so after waiting 10 minutes for them to move while i pottered around .i said you need to go now please. so they went.....i then sprayed the bences with antiseptic spray .(just incase)

Could this be a secret plan to discourage immigration to the UK? The world looks on in horror, the images and statistics lingers in the world's collective memory for years to come.

The UK is no longer seen as a safe haven.

Theoretically, the infection COULD be eradicated completely.

If everybody was shut up in a defined space for a certain time (two weeks?) with absolutely no human contact, the coronavirus would have no host. Borders would have to be totally locked down too.

Of course, that would be totally unacceptable. The people who are already infected and those with illnesses requiring medical care would die. A few young children, old and disabled people would die too.

When formulating a plan, the government should concentrate only on the essential contact needed to make sure that those who can't be self-sufficient don't die.

I think the UK Government should have put the country in lock down much earlier,however its too late now, as long as people keep to the rules, things should be sorted,and lock down eased in time.

It's not the government's fault anyway. Nature made this virus and she has probably wiped out half the humans and animals in the world several times before. Sometimes no matter how smart their suits and ties, and how long their words, humans can't control everything nature throws their way.

As long as guidelines are followed we should be fine. This virus is going to be around for a long time, we have to get used to a different way of life. The whole world has changed.

Therefore it’s up to Westminster to make sure the regulations are perfectly clear, not done in such an ambiguous way that people can interpret them in whichever way they choose. Our lives are at stake here: we need strong leadership from government. Can you not see that they’re trying to pin the blame on us for when the death rate goes up again?

Whitwavemark2. It's not always the Government's fault. Look around and see how many people are not for,living the basic instructions. To stay home, not let visitors into their homes and not keeping social distance when out. The general public are so stupid at times and very self centred. So please....not all blame should be directed at Westminster.

They say ‘the science’ thinks now is the right time to do that: except it’s not now it’s in a couple of weeks time. And I don’t think it includes France. At the moment. They keep telling us to use our common sense but, thus far they science’ doesn’t seem to have applied any common sense to their advice. Oh, and it’s only now advisable to wear masks. Unless we don’t want to wear one in which case we don’t have to. Does that make it any clearer?

What I find hard to digest is that they're only now talking about quarantining people coming into the country.

Bonkey2, our new granddaughter is a similar age and we have not held her yet. I think that the official advice would probably be to keep your distance, and I think it is the wisest thing to do at the moment. My daughter wouldn't let us hold her if we tried, because of the risks involved. We don't know enough about this virus to be certain of how many ways it is transmitted, and there is the possibility that it could be transmitted to you via the baby. Your daughter would feel terrible if you or your husband caught it because you handled the baby. Better to wait until you are sure it's safe. I know it's hard.

However, at the end of two or three years, I fear the statistics could be far worse whatever we do. This virus is not seemingly dying out like SARS did, which we encountered when we were in Hong Kong.
SARS did return briefly after it was thought to have died out.
