I predict another rise of covid

Could any of you do any better?Sick of reading all the Johnson bashers.Covid 19 will be around for a long time,so we have to develop a strategy which allows some freedoms.We can't stay in lockdown for ever.I take it you think that Corbyn would have done a better job!God help us, before anyone comments,I know Corbyn isn't leader of the Labour party now,but he was at the start of the pandemic.

In Germany the R rate is now above 1. I just heard that on Sky news.

If people don’t start returning to work soon then eventually there won’t be a job at all for them.

The government has an INCREDIBLY difficult balancing act to do and they are managing to the best of their ability.

The lockdown can’t continue indefinitely, we all know that, and business owners should have been planning for this from day one of the lockdown.

Ultimately our safety is OUR responsibility, no one else’s.

Yes we are dealing with a nasty virus but over 90% of the population will have mild symptoms.

I was interested (but not surprised) to read that the overweight and obese are far more likely to die from the virus than those of a normal weight.
Definitely something to think about.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it? Of course we shall look back and see things which could have been done differently but if other countries do the same I think we shall find that no-one, with the exception of New Zealand, got it completely right. It is easy to criticise the government or Boris Johnson but whom do you think could have handled the situation better? Should they have ignored the scientific evidence, and what would their critics be saying now?

My own opinion is that in taking the first very tentative steps to normality the government had to balance the risk of an increase in infections against the calls for the economy to re-start. Yes, there are dangers but I gather the Trades Union will be looking after the welfare of their members and employers will be responsible for providing the right conditions. The situation in schools at present looks insoluble and must hinge on how confident parents are that their children will be safe.

A notice has just appeared on my screen saying that the Chancellor will be extending the furlough scheme to October. The government has borrowed eye watering sums of money which will at some stage have to be repaid, andthe Magic Money Tree will not last forever.

If the current change causes a rise in deaths then we shall have to return to lockdown,perhaps in a stricter way than what we have seen so far, and those of us who have obeyed the rules will be justified at pointing the finger at the minority who feel they have a right to do their own thing and endanger the lives of others. I have not walked around town today but I gather there are many more people about and many more cars.

Totally agree with the first response Grannygravy13. I agree with that the message was a little confusing but the only way out is to listen and adhere to what the government is trying to achieve.

I think people are being hysterical. Apply some common sense for goodness sake. Do what YOU need to do to keep safe. No matter what the government do to ease us out of lockdown, they won't keep everyone happy. They've got to walk the line between idiots who want lockdown and all restrictions to be abolished now, and at the other end, those who want lockdown to continue for how long .....years?? I think it's a hard path to tread and I'm glad it's not my decision. If it was only the anti-lockdown fools who got the virus I'd say they got what they deserved, but sadly they will spread it to people who are trying to stay safe. It was easy to impose lockdown. I don't envy anyone trying to navigate 70 million people out of this. And if the government is getting it so wrong ...What's your Brilliant Plan??

A agree with many posts.....this lockdown was not necessary in the first place. Mass hysteria was caused by a flawed report from ONE man (who then went on to break his own rules !) and Boris was too weak a 'leader' to take advice from the whole of the medical profession ...preferring to use ridiculous slogans and rhetoric instead of a common sense approach he chose to treat us all like children and now he is still uttering totally meaningless drivel ….he makes no apology for anything as he is hell bent on becoming the saviour of the world ….narcissistic personality disorder on a grand scale. Also, owners of expensive care homes chose not to equip the staff with PPE thus when care home residents were discharged from hospitals (which they should NOT have been) BACK to the care homes, the illness spread like wildfire amongst the residents and staff, their families and the wider community ...the money these homes charge should have been spent on PPE anyway, as carers have to perform intimate care at normal times. The hospitals are doing an excellent job but WHY these people were sent back to care homes before they were ready HAS to be questioned. Surely the huge and as yet underused Nightingale Hospitals could and should have been used as half way houses once they were up and running …..History will have a field day describing this government and this time …..sadly we may not be here to see it …...Be sensible (not 'stay alert' or 'stay home' or whatever the next empty slogan will be …….)

You don't have to send them to school you won't be fined so it's up to the parents so what's the problem, keep them at home if you wish but don't be moaning you can't go to work because you have no childcare, you can't have it both ways.

I think the Government on the whole are doing a good job dealing with this crisis.

All the negative remarks and posts on here, TV and in the newspapers are mostly from the left, Kier Starmer Labour trying to get noticed etc. Everyone else {mostly} can see these negative posts for what they are, political point scoring.

Of course more people will now catch the virus and the figures will rise again, but I really do not know what the solution is. From what I can see, absolutely nothing has changed since this virus first struck, except, firstly, we have Had thousands of deaths, secondly, we have three huge new hospitals that are mainly empty; they were not built for no reason, they are in preparedness for the increased number of cases still to come, and the thirdly the economy is on its knees and the level of financial support being given to pay people not to work is unsustainable. We cannot all live in isolation fir the rest of our lives but at the moment I believe that is the only way to stay Safe and I, for one, am not going anywhere! I am completely on my own, have not seen my family or my friends here since early January when I went on holiday to Australia before the problem was known. I had to come home three weeks early in March, I was very lucky to get a flight and so happy to be home then, but now I wish I had stayed there as I was with family and Australia feels a much safer place to be now!! Hindsight is a wonderful thing lol!

GrannyGravy 13 without knowing the young mum personally it's hard to judge but let's presume she has asthma only mild, let's presume she hasn't found small enough gloves for the little children and let's presume she has tried to put masks on them only for them to be ripped off again in two seconds.

I live on our High Road, it’s a main bus route to the Commuter line Station at the other end of the road, buses are going past as normal with one maybe two passengers on some, however the majority are empty.

Do get off your high-horse Natasha76. We don’t need to be experts to know that the more contacts people have the more people will be infected. Didn’t you see the pictures of people on tube trains returning to work yesterday ? How on earth can the 6’ rule be implemented with people trying to get to work? Do you suppose that buses and trains will run with only half a dozen people and that workers will wait meekly in line for the next bus and then the next bus where passengers can be sufficiently separate from fellow travellers.

Natasha it's not about being an expert it's simply knowing facts. They have failed big time as the large number of deaths state.

What degree of risk do people think acceptable for anyone venturing out of their house?
Nothing is 100% risk free. So we need to show a lot more common sense and backbone than is currently on display.
Take sensible precautions but accept that there is a nasty virus around and some of us die from it. That happens in an epidemic regardless of which government is in power.

So true Dianehillbilly! I’m in Wales where our instructions are to stay home, exercise locally, no driving other than shop, chemist and work.

I perfectly understood the instructions from Boris that they could drive to exercise in England - why do the English think that means they can drive to Wales? I’m more scared of stupidity than I am of the virus!

Our AC have decided not to send GC back to school/nursery until September at the earliest.

I have just been gazing out of my kitchen window which overlooks our High Road. A young Mum has just walked past wearing surgical gloves and mask whilst her young child (5/6) and toddler skipped behind her touching walls, railings etc the children were not wearing masks/gloves.

Am I alone in thinking that is wrong on many levels?

I think Johnson has caved in to pressures from business. Now some people will be forced to return to work under conditions that is far from safe. And how mad is it to open schools for four-year olds who have no concept of ’social distancing’. So that’s Potentially 30 children catching the virus and taking it home to 30 families and then members of those families will go to work... I’m really scared.
