Personally Rosalyn69 I think the gradual easing of lockdown is the correct thing to do. If and when there are regional flare ups then those regions should have to take extra precautions.

So how long should the country remain in lock down? Until there are no new cases at all? Just asking.

The populist media hypes up the public sense of panic and powerlessness leading to apathy and inertia. Hence people thinking they might as well go out and join a huge crowd in a march or party in a park.

I don't think the populist media has been responsible for the poor messaging, lack of testing and tracing or lack of PPE. No amount of positivity stops a virus.

Unfortunately, there will always be irresponsible and selfish people, but I don't see why they should be allowed to affect everybody else. That's why we have laws, which need to be enforced.

Personal responsibility is important too. I wish more people considered that especially before venturing out into large crowds.

The populist media are to blame for a lot of the headless chickening going on. They fixate on a negative aspect and run with that without looking at alternative viewpoints or, crucially, research. Of course bad news sells papers or attracts viewers.

When I watch TV I feel like I have just wasted 14 weeks of my life by staying as all these people go out as if nothing has happened. I think the second wave will be more deadly than the first and I hope I am wrong. My eldest DS has never stayed in!!! I am annoyed with him and he knows it.

And how about those forced back to work without proper protection and having to travel on public transport but until now?

it is the people who will generate the big second wave. They cannot see the virus so of course it will never get them or those they are in contact with. It will happen mid july, once the R builds up after all the social inter-action, look at what is happening in the big cities this weekend. Idiots, they can only blame themselves

As you say it’s not rocket science - simple logic. I would be delighted if we could conquer this virus as they might have done in NZ but I’m constantly aghast at the way we are being lied to and manipulated.

Apparently we elected this shower of idiots though and must lie down and surrender ourselves to our fate - or so someone implied on another thread.

The R (infection rate) here (I live in Cornwall) of 1.0 doesn't mean it has spread. The increase to 0.9 was due to an outbreak at Weston super mare hospital over a week ago,. Big increase in positive tests from patients and staff. Hopes are it didn't spread outside. Hospital closed but about to reopen.

I'm fearful that the south west will suffer with the impact of the easing of lockdown, particularly the amount of travel people are doing (pleasure and seeing families etc.)

Dengue fever, the Zika virus are spread by mosquitoes.

There is so much more to learn about viruses and what their effects may be on the human body, short or long term.

Whitewave I see today that you were correct in your prediction and there has been a rise in cases of Covid-19 after lockdown relaxation and that the R rate has increased. A lesson learned or not? And now - maybe a bit too late as it seems everything is a bit too late - we do need to wear masks! And cases are emerging in schools that have opened. Glad I am in Scotland but also feeling more anxious now as this seems to be not following usual virus outcomes. My DM who is housebound has now requested masks and have bought some from M&S as who knows where this is going at least she will be protected if we need to go to GP or anywhere. Beginning to question this virus following scientific analysis because of the way it attacks the cells. Not a normal route for a virus to attack respiratory, immune cells and epithelial cells in blood vessels causing clots, strokes and damage to kidney and heart. Does anyone else think this is strange?

The point is that we were told that we wouldn’t have to accept chlorinated chicken as part of a trade deal. But now we do.

Actually, our tap water is chlorinated. Sometimes I turn on the tap and am taken aback by the smell of chlorine, like a swimming pool.
