In about 3-4 weeks time .

This idiot government is losing control.

Witzend, we're way past the point where we'd have any wish to:

'prove triumphantly how rubbish Boris/the government/the Tories generally, have been at handling the virus'

the facts speak for themselves.

Well, the 3 week deadline has come and gone so now it's only 3 days to the 4 week deadline before your prediction proves true or false.

Pantglas2 Thu 04-Jun-20 18:58:57

The ONS figures published weekly in arrears are deemed to be exact (those people have the power of God a bit like HMRC)and are to be trusted across the UK.

I'm confused about deaths too Fennel. Apparently, there's a delay in reporting deaths and there doesn't seem any consistency about how long the delay is. Hospital deaths are reported quite quickly, but those at home or in care homes take longer. It wouldn't surprise me if the reporting systems are different in Wales, Scotland and NI. All you can really do is look at trends, which isn't that helpful for planning in an ever-changing situation. I would have thought that people in charge of planning need to respond to accurate figures on an almost daily basis, so that we know what's working or not. The lack of testing doesn't help either.

Jane10 Thu 04-Jun-20 18:11:13

Deaths in single figures in Scotland today according to the news.

Fennel Thu 04-Jun-20 17:52:35

Apologies for my post yesterday about increase in deaths from the virus. As far as I know the figure was correct, but based on the assumption that from becoming infected and dying is 3-4 weeks. Which isn't correct, rather the start of showing symptoms, I think.
And now the rate for new cases is going down.
HELP! So confusing.
On top of that the uncertainty about the accuracy of testing.

As the suggestion for a second wave was made on 10th May for 3/4 weeks ahead we should just about be gearing up for it. The pictures in London yesterday show just why it may happen, also on the beaches and presumably in the hills. 20 teenagers in our local park yesterday having a football match.

MayBee70 Thu 04-Jun-20 15:26:17

I was replying to what GG13 had said.

Jane10 Thu 04-Jun-20 15:21:34

That's nice MayBee- now what about the second wave?

MayBee70 Thu 04-Jun-20 15:02:07

You could hardly call Johnson an inexperienced politician: he’s been in politics for a long time. Pity he got rid of all the decent, experienced Conservative politicians because he wanted a government full of yes men, most of which are pretty wet behind the ears. Not learning from the mistake that Corbyn made when he surrounded himself with momentum members. But, since when has Johnson learned from mistakes?

Jane10 Thu 04-Jun-20 11:45:23

We don't have that postcode system up here but the Covid symptom tracker for Edinburgh shows that 0.3% of the population are experiencing symptoms of Coronavirus.

Callistemon Thu 04-Jun-20 10:33:01

Our area has had an increase in cases after a few weeks of calm according to an ICU consultant.

Pantglas2 Thu 04-Jun-20 10:10:29

Did anyone enter their postcode on the Telegraph article yesterday giving ONS stats on deaths in each county for this year compared to average of last five years?

I’m in Conwy which is showing 8% less deaths this year in spite if 58 COVID deaths.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 04-Jun-20 10:09:59

Callistemon exactly what one of our AC said yesterday grin

GrannyGravy13 Thu 04-Jun-20 10:09:15

It is very easy to have the right opinion and answers when you are in opposition (Labour have had enough years to perfect this strategy), not so easy when you are a newly elected PM, dealing with a worldwide pandemic, trying to negotiate Brexit (the reason the government won the election) and having Covid-19 seriously enough to be in intensive care.

Callistemon Thu 04-Jun-20 10:06:14

If only Boris had kept those water cannons we wouldn't be worrying about the crowds incubating a second wave of the virus.
Such a lack of foresight
[sigh]

GrannyGravy13 Thu 04-Jun-20 10:05:53

WhitewaveMk2 what are your thoughts on Barry Gardner MP breaking all Covid guidelines by attending the protest and posting the footage he took on Social Media...............

Glorybee Thu 04-Jun-20 10:04:44

Yes, it is sick WW2 to think you would rejoice in more covid deaths, I don’t think that was what was meant at all. However, there are many, many times when you think the Tories and in particular Boris has fallen short, when you do seem to exude an energised glee.

As you’re convinced that’s all the time, it’s relentless! I don’t know where you find the energy!

Jane10 Thu 04-Jun-20 09:59:42

Why don't you just come out and say it? You hate Boris, you didn't like the government that was elected so everything will get worse to prove your point. This comes over very strongly whether you consciously or unconsciously mean it to.
I saw the press briefing yesterday too. The trend is still down. We should stick to social distancing as prescribed.
It was very easy to impose the lockdown. Opening up again is 100% harder task but it must be initiated.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 04-Jun-20 09:56:34

The fault for a rise in Covid-19 in the next two weeks in London should be laid entirely at the door of the protesters yesterday.

If any of the Police contract Covid due to the idiots spitting at them, CCTV footage should be examined and they should be charged.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 04-Jun-20 09:51:27

If you mean that we are critical of the governments handling and fearful of a second or even third wave.

A thousand times correct.

If you think that we are triumphant as a result .

Sick

MaizieD Thu 04-Jun-20 09:43:35

We don't need a second wave to do that, Witzend

Witzend Thu 04-Jun-20 09:39:06

I have to agree with you, @Jane10, about apparent satisfaction at impending doom. It sometimes seems that some GNers would actively welcome a 2nd wave, not because of any grisly death-wish for other people, but purely to
prove triumphantly how rubbish Boris/the government/the Tories generally, have been at handling the virus.

Tweedle24 Thu 04-Jun-20 09:27:53

I heard, on the radio, a description of the government’s problems being like a game of Kerplunk. The decisions made are like trying to keep those marbles in place.Every decision is like pulling a straw out. One player is trying to keep the population safe from the virus while the other is trying to keep the economy afloat. One wrong straw, or one too many, taken out by either player, will result in all the marbles tumbling out,

MayBee70 Thu 04-Jun-20 09:09:32

Can anyone explain to me why, given the fact that many other countries check people’s temperatures before they’re allowed to enter a supermarket, in this country nobody thought to do that with all MP.’s entering parliament?
