I predict another rise of covid

In about 3-4 weeks time .

This idiot government is losing control.

This is not panic inducing that is nonsense. It is initially an opinion, backed by some evedince of concern. Instead of mindless panic I would expect if people genuinely think that there is going to be a second wave, and in my opinion that was indicated in yesterday’s press briefing, then sensible people will continue to behave as they have done over the past couple of months, and it may possibly encourage others who are considering breaking the rules to do the same.

Whitewavemark2. My post was in exasperation at yet another panic inducing thread such as this. It opened on 10th May predicting a second wave. The trend is still down. The tone of this thread is very much as though it takes satisfaction from impending doom. If you read the postings of for example Professor Karl Sikora you will find a very different and enlightening approach to what is happening.
We are definitely not out of the woods yet but we're not all doomed either.
As to Alok Sharma, he seems an effective politician and good at his job. Is he black? I hadn't particularly noticed as I see people not their colour.

lemsip Thu 04-Jun-20 08:45:44

I know he was tested but can't find any result yet, where have you seen it?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 04-Jun-20 07:42:37

jane did you not see Sharma on television?

I hope you are not suggesting that I am jubilant over a member of the BAME community now has covid and we we know is at higher risk of being seriously ill with it?

I am sure you are not and just whizzed off a thoughtless post.

Jane10 Thu 04-Jun-20 07:30:25

What? That would mean he had an instant infection and suffered immediately? He must have been incubating the virus having caught it days ago. The social distancing at Westminster should protect the other MPs and staff from catching it from him.
Sorry to spoil your jubilation though.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 04-Jun-20 07:14:59

So, after the governments victory forcing MPs back to parliament, the very day they returned, we have the dubious knowledge that Sharma has tested positive for the virus. The country was able to watch as he suffered its first affects in the HoC yesterday.

Well done Johnson.

Get ‘em back and infect ‘em.

Strange sort of exit strategy.

EllanVannin Wed 03-Jun-20 22:46:26

Without a doubt. What a mess this country's in.

Callistemon Wed 03-Jun-20 22:21:34

Looking at the crowds in London today, if the virus is still around then another rise in numbers is very possible.

Jane10 Wed 03-Jun-20 22:16:30

I think that the likelihood of a large second wave is quite remote. What seems more likely is regional hotspots.
I contribute to the Covid 19 symptom tracker project every day and the interactive map changes all the time and shows hotspots which can reduce remarkably rapidly.
The daftness of the huge crowds at the protests in London is a problem the the government and scientists hadn't expected.

Hetty58 Wed 03-Jun-20 22:15:39

Dispatches (Channel 4, 9 pm today) was very interesting. It does look likely that we'll have many more infections and deaths.

MayBee70 Wed 03-Jun-20 22:07:43

An MP is self isolating after being in Parliament the other day. Wonder how many more will come down with it. Of course, the PP is now, for a while, immune so he’s ok.

Fennel Wed 03-Jun-20 17:25:36

ps and these poor people would be infected well before the relaxing of lockdown.

Fennel Wed 03-Jun-20 17:23:38

Well Whitewave it looks as if you were right in your OP.
Todays figures put us at the top of deaths from the virus. sad.

Hopefully just a blip but it still looks awful.

timetogo2016 Sun 31-May-20 19:32:28

Me too Whitewavemark2.
I think things should stay as they are for a good few months, as hard as it is for alot of people.

MissAdventure Sun 31-May-20 19:28:03

smile
Me too, grannygravy.
Something nice to look forward to.

Fennel Sun 31-May-20 17:41:26

Returning to the OP - this graph of deaths from the virus shows regular rises and falls in waves. I think I've seen a similar graph for new cases.

The daily figures on Govt Briefings do not show the number of swab tests which slip through the 48 hour window deadline (as swab would expire). I did swab at 7.45am yesterday, courier collected at 10.15am. I asked what time it would get to Lab, he said maybe Sunday or Monday. If my test is not done by latest 7.45am Monday 1st June, then it will be null and void. Apparently, according to Covid Helpline Advisor, there is no way of proving the time it was tested!

Bobbysgirl19 Sun 31-May-20 17:31:17

You might be right WWM2 but we can’t go on like this for ever!!
This crisis is unprecedented, and sad as it is we have to make steps forward - which possibly rebound to steps back!
Getting through this is experimental, I agree it’s horrendous because we’ve never walked this path before.
It really is not a political issue and should not be made into one - in my humble opinion!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 31-May-20 17:12:52

Totally agree with that MissA
(Looking forward to a coffee and cake meet up when we are allowed ☕️???)

MissAdventure Sun 31-May-20 17:07:52

It feels like the world is going crazy, with the help of the press.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 31-May-20 17:01:54

Unfortunately the thousands of protesters in multiple locations throughout the UK do not give a flying fig about Covid-19 they are just intent on harassing members of the Police Force who had absolutely nothing to do with the murder of George Floyd!

They will be the cause of a second wave, not the majority of the general public who abide by the guidelines and take personal responsibility.

I’m staying isolated!

I’ve been told by
a) someone who works in ICU they’ve been told for 2nd wave in July and
b) someone who works for funeral director they’ve been told to prepare for mass of deaths in August

I’m taking responsibility for my own safety and ignoring govt. I’m staying home.

Pantglas2 Sat 30-May-20 22:07:50

It’s sad isn’t it Growstuff to see people you care about struggle without their normal support services - tablets can only do so much and aren’t the answer for so many of my friends.

There’s one I haven’t been able to contact for a few days now and I’m torn between staying put, abiding by the rules (5 miles tomorrow) and just driving to see that she’s ok.

growstuff Sat 30-May-20 22:01:15

Whitewave As we discussed before, I can't download the KCL app on to my Neanderthal phone, but I have been following the (almost) daily reports by council area.

I only started about three weeks ago, so I don't know what was happening before then. However, since the first week of May, the level of infections has remained almost the same. I can only assume that means that R=1 (or thereabouts).

This isn't a densely populated area; most people have gardens; there are plenty of places people can go for a walk without seeing anybody else, so I really do wonder what's going on and find it very worrying. I haven't heard about outbreaks in care homes - in fact, quite the opposite. There's a big care home about half a mile from me and I know there has only been one case (which was quickly isolated and the person recovered) since the start of lockdown.

growstuff Sat 30-May-20 21:53:27

Pantglas I know people with chronic mental health issues too. The ones I have discussed lockdown with agree with me that mental health illnesses are being trivialised by people who think that being able to see friends and family or going to more places will somehow "cure" mental health problems.

Anybody with experience of mental ill health knows only too well how much it is misunderstood, stigmatised and under-financed. Anybody who has been tipped over the edge by the last three months should almost certainly already have been receiving treatment.

My position all along is that the pandemic would reveal loads of holes in all sorts of social systems. Sad to say, I doubt if many lessons will be learnt.
