MawB I posted that Spectator picture earlier today on this thread and the one in news and politics. Nobody seemed to take any notice. I think it's a question that needs answering. Why, if his fitness to drive was in doubt didn't she drive them home without the test drive to Castle Barnard? She's obviously a confident driver to drive on the i35 so the A1 would be a doddle, especially in lock down, with fewer cars on the road.

Jane....none of that is ‘a problem’ for me, I don’t get angry about that kind of thing.What I do think, is that there are quite a few Tory MP’s who can’t stand Cummings.However the fact is, that like him or loathe him he has helped them win a stunning victory in the last GE, and helped Johnson unlock the stalemate in Parliament regarding Brexit.
Johnson would be a fool to ditch him just at the moment.
Cummings had made many enemies on his way to the top who are just itching to take him down in any way possible.
They don’t care two hoots about him issuing apologies, they just want him gone.There is infighting in the Tory Party every bit as much as the LP.

In comparison, there is no witch hunt or call for resignations of 4 Labour MPs who broke lockdown, including one who attended a funeral with 100 other guests.
Similarly no castigation for Prince Charles who hot footed it to his second (or third or fourth?) home in Scotland whilst actively infected with COVID.

Mary Wakefield would have been perfectly capable of driving home if DomCum’s eyes had been causing concern.
In case the print at the bottom is too small to read easily she says how she drove an hour every morning when she lived in the US.

Lemongrove Tory MP’s getting in on the act are those who dislike Cummings, it’s obvious they would use this to try and oust him. Odd as it may seem, there are actually some Tories who are honest and have personal integrity, who believe that Dominic Cummings, having made a mistake, should have apologised. Like their constituents, they are angry that he hasn’t apologised and are speaking out because they believe that he should resign.
Which bit of that is a problem for you? Do you believe that MPs should have blind loyalty to their party leader, and his unelected adviser, however compromised their position?

Of course we all know what happened to the last lot of Tory MPs who voted with their consciences, don’t we? It will be interesting to see how Boris Johnson/Dominic Cummings deal with this lot.

How many times do we have to point out they weren't unable to look after their own child, he says he thought it might happen, so he travelled 260 miles with a presumed infected person against all the rules. Nobody with suspected coronavirus was to leave their home. They didn't need any help so his "thought" was wrong. If they did find themselves needing help then they could have availed themselves of the nieces' offer and one or both could travel to London quite legally to care for the child.

Whitewave if every time there is a new name on here (that you don’t agree with) they are dismissed as a bot, then it works both ways.....last year there were a couple of new names who posted in praise of Corbyn non stop.It doesn’t matter though, as posters will either agree with the content or not, as the case may be.
If the posts are well written, they are still worthy of consideration.

My theory, based on nothing but intuition, is that Mrs. Cummings is Mr. Cummings Achilles' heel. She appears to have panicked because she thought she, and then the child, had contracted corona virus; he made the decision to move them to Durham for child care as she appeared unable to cope; he contracted the virus himself; once recovered he needed to return to London but Mrs. Cummings appeared unable to drive the family back.
This is pure speculation. I have very little knowledge of Dominic Cummings and none whatsoever of his wife, but I cannot see any other reason for him jeopardising his role and putting the Conservative party in such a dangerous position.

A question for those defending Cummings: what if he’d been stopped by the police en route to Durham? Or had an accident? How many key workers might he have infected ? I don’t suppose they count as they are not doing such important work as him.

Oh lemon you always get taken in by these bots. It was just the same during the brexit referendum. You always agreed with the bots coming on to influence us. You fall for it hook line and sinker.

NoddingGanGan you work in ‘elder care’ and yet you believe that once Social Services are involved, especially if the parents aren't around any longer, anything could happen to the poor little thing? Words fail me.

Do you really believe that if anyone with symptoms of Covid contacted Children’s Services (Social Services Departments have not existed in England and Wales for many years now) social workers would have swooped in to remove the children? I can assure you there is a real crisis in finding placements for vulnerable children at the moment, and by that I mean those at risk in their own homes. Children’s Services might have tried to help him to transport his child to relatives but to be honest with staffing levels reduced due to the virus, and the challenges of working safely under current guidelines, this situation would not have been a priority.

Dominic Cummings broke the guidelines he helped to produce. There was never a loophole that allowed anyone with symptoms to leave their home, under any circumstances. I don’t know how many times this has to be repeated before people will believe it. He should have summoned help from relatives in Durham to collect his son. That would have been in line with the official guidance (law). What he did was not. It’s really that simple.

I was always told that a good way of defusing a situation was to say "I'm sorry you're upset/ annoyed" which was a way of apologising without admitting anything, perhaps he should have tried that! How can you drive if you think your eyesight is dodgy, dangerous and selfish.
