So angry about this witch hunt

Watching Dominic Cummings being grilled on tv by journalists Asking the same questions over and over. It is obvious from the guidelines which he read out that he was not breaking them.
His family and especially his child must come first. He did what he thought was best.
Leave the poor man alone.

And still nobody queries why he had to potentially dangerously test his eyesight out by driving a round trip of 60 miles to a beauty spot, but more, why could his wife not drive them back? She was totally recovered and is an experienced driver who drove daily in the USA. And the i35 is a lot busier than the A1, especially during lock down.

A witch hunt, come on! That would be if he did nothing wrong.

He broke the rules, end of and that snide little smirk he made,on his way out of the Press Conference yesterday, spoke volumes.

I really couldn’t care less if his family are being hounded by the Press.Sky News we’re outside the Cummings family home in Durham last night. When did we stop being responsible for our own actions?

He should not still be in post, end of ,the Petition on Change.org was at 700,000 supporters this morning and steadily climbing.

If Boris thinks this going away any time soon,he can think again.

oldgimmer1 'essential journey to test out his eyesight' seems reasonable to you? Unbelieveable! It just goes to show that you indeed can 'fool some of the people'.

oldgimmer1 Tue 26-May-20 15:46:58

I think he acted reasonably, taking account of all the circumstances.

He used govt guidelines and interpreted them to mean that he could travel so that his son could be looked after should he and his wife become ill with CV.

He was questioned by the Police who did not issue a fine.

He made an essential journey to test out his eyesight in advance of long drive back to London. Seems reasonable enough to me.

Can't get excited about it. grin.

I want to make clear that the following comments have nothing to do with politics or a witch hunt.
So many of us followed the rules and didn't adjust them to suit ourselves.

CUMMINGS THOUGHT HE MIGHT BE COMING DOWN WITH COVID - the public service announcements still being broadcast, specifically state: "Do not leave home if you or anyone in your household has symptoms."

He could have asked for help in his situation.

He could have asked for a Government car to come and collect him from County Durham.

He could have tested his eyesight by driving round the family farm. If his eyesight was suspect why put his family and members of the public at risk, by making a round trip of 60 miles on public roads?

We all want to look after our families - that's why we followed the rules and not our instincts!!

Jishere Tue 26-May-20 15:37:23

Chewbacca I didn't realise what I done there. Thanks for pointing it out??

Chewbacca Tue 26-May-20 15:21:42

Enjoying the "not stopping for a toilet break" being "pure dribble"! grin love it jishere!

Jishere Tue 26-May-20 15:12:51

Sorry to hear that Loislovestewie it must be tough on you and your son and I can only imagine how fustrated he feels. You have a right to feel angry with the mixed messages thus government have given

DC has still made numerous errors which he will never admitt to and it beggars believe why he felt the need to do what he did in the first place. There's is no way they would travel all that way without a toilet break for a child. When he went to the castle it was his wife's birthday but he went just to check he was well enough to drive. Pure dribble. ..

Whitewavemark2 Tue 26-May-20 15:09:42

Gardengate????

MissAdventure Tue 26-May-20 15:04:41

He didn't bother to ask his family who live close, according to one version of events.
I think he actually said that, though of course, the waters get more muddied as we go further into the rabbit hole.

Just as planned, I'd imagine.

Callistemon Tue 26-May-20 15:03:13

Colandergate!

lemongrove Tue 26-May-20 15:00:24

Just as I thought Callistemon, if it had been true we would all have known it by now. Fake news, as Donald would say?

Callistemon Tue 26-May-20 15:00:06

We all make these kinds of arrangements for our children when they are young; we appointed guardians for ours in our wills.
However, that is a long-term arrangement. In an emergency and with an infectious disease such as this around, you would call on a relative who lives around the corner, surely? What f they had both been hospitalised in an emergency? If you are lucky enough to have a sister nearby, surely she would be on standby?

MissAdventure Tue 26-May-20 14:59:28

There are members here who have taken it on board as truth.

Callistemon Tue 26-May-20 14:55:04

Apparently he hasn't lemongrove

It was a Tweeter who spread this after he thought he may have heard this on a radio chat show. The tweet has now been deleted.

Just more obfuscation.

lemongrove Tue 26-May-20 14:52:44

I didn’t know his son has autism, where was this mentioned?

lemongrove Tue 26-May-20 14:51:33

It will be a nine day wonder Whitewave....then something else will come along.

Loislovesstewie Tue 26-May-20 14:49:39

For crying out loud; my adult son has autism. He has been climbing the walls since he hasn't been able to go out and about . Usually he he is a very busy individual and hates being confined so it is sheer hell for him; BUT he understands that there are rules to be followed and that there are penalties if those rules are broken.
I'm sorry if Dominic Cummings has a son with autism , I know how challenging it is bringing up a child whose thought processes are significantly different but it's no excuse for breaking a rule/recommendation when lives are being put at risk.
At the end of the day it is his job to bring his differently abled child up to get on well in society , and that includes saying no to them and doing difficult things. He is not setting a good example.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 26-May-20 14:44:55

One really interesting thing regarding Cummings.

He succeeded via Brexit it totally divide the country.

Now he appears to be totally uniting the country.

71% think Cummings broke lockdown rules.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 26-May-20 14:17:31

Thank you maddy

maddyone Tue 26-May-20 14:12:16

whitewave
Well I clearly only know what we’ve all been told, but I respect your point of view totally. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I suppose I believed him. Maybe I am being led by the nose, you could be right, but as I said, having lived 240 miles away from all sources of help when we were young marrieds with young children, I can see this type of situation from both sides.
When I had severe problems with my third pregnancy, my husband and I made arrangements for our two very little boys to go to stay with my sister who lived over two hundred miles away. In the end it wasn’t required, I was induced six weeks early in order to treat the baby in the ICU.

hallgreenmiss Tue 26-May-20 13:59:52

sharon103 Stephen Kinnock was not party to drawing up the lockdown rules that were imposed on the rest of us.

hallgreenmiss Tue 26-May-20 13:56:13

Come off it quizqueen the car had not ‘ been idle for weeks’.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 26-May-20 13:43:47

mama yep I’m sure you are right.

It makes absolute sense

MamaCaz Tue 26-May-20 13:39:49

Is there actually a single bit of evidence anywhere that either he or his wife were actually ill - with anything at all, let alone Covid-19?

Isn't it just as, if not more, credible that they just decided that as Boris was in isolation, it was a great opportunity for them to go up north for a family get-together that took in both his wife and his mother's birthdays? Then they got caught out and started tying themselves up in a web of lies, rather than own up to what they had done?

(I know I'm not the first to suggest this, but I feel it needs repeating, as the more you think about it, the likelier it seems!)
