Rubbish lemongrove you can't say that it has nothing to do with loved ones dying alone.
Tell that to the ones who have lost them. Some have been kids heart breaking and then the funerals.
All special circumstances...
If rules are made for breaking shouldn't make the rules in the first place.

What difficult situation was he facing with when he went into downing street when he should have been isolating.

How many others have done similar things to protect their children, but are not well known so nobody knew about it?
It seems to me that some of this is envy, because he and his family are well off and have a farm with two cottages.
How many of you are looking after your grandchildren while their parents work? A great many I suspect.
The journalists should be ashamed of their vicious attacks.
They also broke the rules themselves crowding around his car within a few inches of him. Where was their social distancing?

Totally agree silversurf Mr. Cummings was presented with a very difficult situation. I know what I would have done if a 4 year old child was involved. This is nothing short of a witch hunt and makes for very unpleasant viewing. The press and the BBC should be helping to lead us out of this situation, not stirring the pot on an issue which, while we may not agree with the action taken, is now done. Raking over the 'ashes' is totally unecessary.

I agree it is very disappointing, back to the nitpicking that was going on before COVID 19. I thought the Labour had changed from being the Nasty Party but obviously not. He is not an MP, not a Minister, not a PM, he is an adviser ( civil servant), he does not make the guidelines, the Cabinet does. I am sure the guidelines included special family circumstances. Even though I am isolating, if my grand children needed me I would take the risk and travel to look after them, children come first.

I haven't seen the statement yet but it will be all over the news (may give it a miss as I'm sure it won't do my blood pressure any good).
Setting aside who he is, I have worried about what I would do if DD and SIL were ill- how would I be able to go and take care of DGS (they are 350 miles away)? I can appreciate the worry of the situation.

Our two local hospitals allow one family member in full PPE to be with a loved one in their last hours, as do many hospitals across the country.

Just to add.....I don’t particularly like or dislike the man ( hard to when you don’t know them personally) but witch hunts because of who you are are not very edifying.

The questions need asking so good on the Journos.

The Bernard Castle drive out ( to do a risk assessment on his driving capability) was totally unnecessary.
30 miles for a test drive how's that's??? He could have done that on the return journey to London....and if he got tired his wife could have taken over driving. Still not convinced.
However he's confirmed his power base and its certainly more than an advisor....."moving money around?"

I agree wildswan, not being able to be with dying family is very hard, but is to protect people from this dreadful virus.
Mr Cummings did not put anyone else at risk by his actions.
I support him 100%.
I am a single parent with a grandchild and if I were in the same position with the possibility of family to look after my child, I would have done the same thing.

When are press going to apologise for their behaviour outside his home?

This has nothing to do with ‘ a dying loved one’.....nothing at all.
You can’t be in the ICU with someone who is dying and has got Covid, it just isn’t allowed that you go in there.

Cummings was allowed, as anyone else is, to exercise his judgement and to use common sense.He didn’t infect anyone else, nor was he ever likely to.
I doubt very much that this media circus surrounding him has anything at all to do with the virus and him self isolating in Durham, but all to do with who he is.
I think he played the interview well, an arrogant or dismissive tome wouldn’t have gone down well.
Tbh I thought he was going to leave the job after Brexit ( or did I dream that up?)

I'm with you wildswan16. The thing is the more questions they ask the deeper into the mire of deceit he sinks. Took his family in the car whenhe thought he wasn't fit to drive. Had to stop on the way back because his son needed a wee(30 miles) but manged London to Durham 250 miles without stopping.

I agree Mary 51. Never have I seen such a grilling. Very uncomfortable viewing for me.

I expect those people who were NOT ALLOWED to be with their dying loved one - because those were the RULES - would disagree with you.

Totally agree silversurf our media should be ashamed of themselves, especially their behaviour outside his home. If his wife and child are frightened of being at home I hope he makes a formal complaint against them.
