Watching Dominic Cummings being grilled on tv by journalists Asking the same questions over and over. It is obvious from the guidelines which he read out that he was not breaking them.
His family and especially his child must come first. He did what he thought was best.
Leave the poor man alone.

Yes but , but , but

There was nothing wrong with them.

Two words to say to you grandad

David Evans.

Oldjude how would the nieces have cared for the child in Durham without having contact with the infected family? If they didn't go into the annex they couldn't care for him. You don't take infected people to help, help should come to infected people to try and contain the infection.

MissAdventure Tue 26-May-20 20:37:36

Being in an enclosed space with a sufferer is the most likely way to catch it, I think.

The sort of space like a 4 by 4.

Media journalists are now commenting on the criticisms they are receiving in regard to them "hounding" Dominic Cummings.

Although I believe that much of what Cummings carried out deserves great scrutiny, once the media had confirmed Cummings actions, the attack on what he had carried out should have been put forward by the Labour Leadership and not just left to individual journalist to pressure both Cummings and Johnson for explanations in regard to what really happened.

However, even today four days into this government credibility crisis neither Kier Starmer or any of the new Labour Party leadership are not to be found in any way engaged in the public outrage and condemnation of Cummings behaviour. In fact, Starmer has not played any leading role whatsoever in the public venting of anger at Cummings and through that Boris Johnson.

Many within the Labour Party and broader Labour movement are now voicing criticism of Starmer for his lack of action. Just calling for an inquiry (which they will not get) is simply not satisfactory for a supposedly campaigning movement.

Indeed the above is pathetic when considered in the light of a Labour movement who throughout its history has always had equality and justice for the broad mass of British citizens at its core.

As stated, pathetic....simply pathetic leadership.

@janipat
In London they would have had to share a house. In Durham the family were in a separate annex

MissAdventure Tue 26-May-20 20:30:44

Wifey let the child look after daddy when he was very ill.

He's been a lucky boy not to get poorly, considering...

When I first joined gransnet it was entertaining and informative. It seems that lockdown has made so many people bitter and spiteful. There was/is guidance that lets us all help our families when needed, only most posters seem happier to go with the Piers Morgan attitude of ‘no one knows anything but me’ and I am suffering for the cause.
Thursday I will be travelling for two hours to see my mum for her 85th birthday. She had no underlining medical condition (she takes no medication) and I will practice social distancing. I don’t care if it’s allowed or who criticises. I may not be able to do this next year

Jishere Tue 26-May-20 20:30:14

Hear hear Miss Adventure.

Jishere Tue 26-May-20 20:28:28

Oldjude that hasn't got anything to do with it because did he actually use the child minders? Surprised if he did if not it was a cover up to isolate in Durham.
Glad you was able to look after your family members.x

MissAdventure Tue 26-May-20 20:26:07

I won't be giving it a rest.
Not at all. No way. No how.

MissAdventure Tue 26-May-20 20:25:03

No, I would never leave any child with a stranger.

I expect I'd try to get help from family that lived close.

Urmstongran Tue 26-May-20 20:24:55

How many think that the four labour MPs should quit for breaking lockdown? I've taken a quick straw poll and 100% believe they should all resign. Well that's a fine way to deal with these sort of situations, let's apply it to the judicial system and do all trial by media. A lot quicker and cheaper. Or let voters decide by the ballot box in four and a half years time. Until then give it a rest.

janipat Tue 26-May-20 20:24:37

Oldjude the autistic child rumour was started by one person on twitter who "thought' he heard it on the radio. He deleted the tweet after reconsidering that he hadn't heard any such thing, but by then it had fallen into folk law.
The potential child care in Durham, two nieces aged 17 and 20 could have come to London if childcare was required. No need for infected people to put others at risk by travelling unnecessarily.

MawB Tue 26-May-20 20:24:36

Oldjude totally irrelevant question.

MaizieD Tue 26-May-20 20:23:27

Cummings' child is not autistic. That was a rumour started on twitter.

I am absolutely certain that if he was autistic Cummings and Johnson would said that he was and would have milked it for all that it was worth as it is the one thing that 'might' have justified what he did.

MamaCaz Tue 26-May-20 20:19:13

Oldjude - I think that the child being autistic turned out to be fake news.
Truth seems to be sadly lacking in this whole saga!

Oldjude Tue 26-May-20 20:15:37

@mawb
Would you have a stranger child-mind an autistic 4 year old.

Oldjude Tue 26-May-20 20:13:01

@jishere
You could have read the guidelines on the gov website and it was also in the letter sent by Boris to every household. I used the guidelines to look after a family member

Oldjude Tue 26-May-20 20:08:57

@mary51
Totally agree

Jishere Tue 26-May-20 20:08:57

I too belong to the angry club. This is a man that has blatantly lied and doesn't feel the need to apologise.
Did he actually use the child minders he had in mind in Durham?

Now Matt Handcock is looking into all those who got fined over lock down childcare. Which I can't see coming to anything but hope it does.

I hope those that support him don't moan because there be more devious behaviour just wait and see.....and if it affects you? no doubt it will be on a thread here.

Whingingmom Tue 26-May-20 19:56:12

Whitewavemark2

Thank you. Accepted with grace. And I apologise for my snippy response too.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 26-May-20 19:44:50

Oh then I apologise.

Whingingmom Tue 26-May-20 19:44:11

Whitewavemark2
Nope - not new, been on here a while. Pretty poor reply to my post I have to say.

MissAdventure Tue 26-May-20 19:41:36

I'm just beyond livid.
They don't even care enough to come up with one credible reason for any of it.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 26-May-20 19:40:17

Welcome whingingmom

Another new one.

They are coming in thick and fast
