Whilst I may disagree with Grandad on many of the issues regarding the return to school and the fact that he thinks teachers are idling these weeks away (they are not), I do believe that that is exactly what he is, a Health and Safety expert.

Those in charge of a national education service delivered by local authorities should be those either educated or teaching (preferably both) in state schools.

For some time frustration and anger have been rapidly growing WITHIN the teaching profession and those trying to keep up with and implement the frequently changing policies and strategies decreed from above and outside.

Perhaps our resident H&E expert will get his revolution from the rank and file teachers after all - if they could only get time and stamina to do it. But they won't - because the net losers in all the upheaval would be a cohort of children, and that is the one thing that teachers will not risk.

In the news at the moment, it looks as though Johnson wil be relaxing the 2 metre rule very soon.

Why can't he and his cabinet do all the researching and planning BEFORE they make nationwide announcements? They govern by a series of approximations - state a policy to be followed, then make a U-turn once they hear what the reaction is.

Surely they have plenty of experts who can advise them on what is the best way forward and how a decision to follow that best way will be greeted?

Or is their (his?) main advisor, Cummings, hell-bent on giving inaccurate, unpopular and ill-advised advice at every turn, for some subtle strategy of his own? It certainly succeeds in creating the impression that none of them could organise nooky in a knocking shop!

To be fair Elegran there's a new adviser in Number 10 who made money out of organising nooky in a knocking shop.

I’m still waiting to return to work bored and fed up I’m a nursery teacher and haven’t got enough in my room for me to return. So the government are laying my wages 80% hope this continues till I can return, as I’m desperate to get back the kids can go down to the beach and play out but not go to school what a stupid system!

On HIGNFY he did his bumbling comedian act to perfection - making people laugh is one of the compensatory behaviours of those who feel (and possibly are!) incompetent. Now he should be acting as a statesman, weighing up data from his experts, and making steady and balanced decisions on behalf of the nation he is responsible for.

He wanted the top job. Now that he has it, he needs to do it.

I actually think that Headteachers did NOT know when students would be back, and if "Jennifer" and Ellianne knew anything about teachers , she would acknowledge that they are very very keen for the education of their students to continue.
Teachers are intelligent and resourceful ( how insulting do you want to be?) but they are not magicians to " make it happen".
To dismiss democratic protests as " idiotic" and principles as " silly" , shows a narrowminded and biased view....even though you have every right to express it.

You have to do what you think is the right choice as PM but there is also the fact that pragmatism and practicality come into it as well.

Oh dear, the waggy fingers are really out today and being very strict. I'm guessing "you don't know what you're talking about and you have no understanding" are stock teacher comments when they can't come up with any real empathy and substance. I am always willing to praise a good point made and am prepared to look at comments from a different perspective, but some here can't wait to put others down straightaway in a very condescending school ma'am way. However, I will carry on listening and learning and just ignore the rest.

It's not really surprising, though, that cases are on the rise again in the US, as people were out on the streets and many were ignoring any idea of distancing.
The numbers did not seem to have gone down appreciably either; easing of the rules was more to do with the economy there rather any other reason.

Jane, Callistemon Neither of YOU are incompetent of course! Quite the opposite! but we all knew people whose only ability at school was to be the class buffoon, so they used that to divert attention. Some of them went into showbiz, some into politics.

And some of the brightest became criminals!
