I laughed and laughed at the silly Kenny Everett. I used to listen to him on Radio Luxemburg and later remember him fighting the appalling Section28 introduced by the Conservatives, which forbade Local Council to uphold or promote gay rights. It was a long, hard fight to get rid of it, finally, in 2003.

I hope all is smoothing out with your family issues. I have the impression you're a close family so I'm sure there will be help and comfort there. Having been through some pretty dire things with my own family, I know how devastating they can be. But they pass, they really do.

Don't you worry about my cold hands - it's a choice I make to have my door open (unless the weather is really foul and rain is literally blowing in). It's not cold enough to get frostbite and I couldn't type in gloves anyway.
I like to hear the birds as I work and at the moment, there are three pukeko screeching only a couple of yards away (gave them apple cores yesterday. Like Oliver, they want more ).
They are new visitors this close to the house and probably the reason why there've been no ducklings this year.

Gramaretto I wish someone would take me to lunch in a garden centre! I could add to my large behind with a butt-ered date scone

Mamissimo I'm surprised the hospital didn't recommend Dill (made into a tea and sipped warm) as that's sovereign for wind - remember Gripe Water? That's Dill.

Poor Panache what a fright in the night and a fight to make the window tight - it's not right! And your poor, poor man being overset by the stress of the dental journey; that's very sad, bless him. Both of you take it very easy now and recover.

Doodle I try to do the blog every day but if I get involved in something away from my computer, I'm afraid it doesn't happen.
Today my girl is coming to change my bed. I still haven't got my test results but we've decided that if I caught the lurgy on 15th, it's gone by now. She's also bringing some vegetables

It was panache and MrP who moved in a hurry last year, from their lovely house into the apartment they are now in. Those of us who were around at the time had All our fingers and toes crossed until the move finally took place.
Our Waitrose delivery tonight was a bit of a mystery. Neither of us could actually remember placing the order (although DH insists it was me ?). When it came, it had a number of strange things in it. One huge (really huge) banana, a small piece of rump steak (which I don’t normally buy), more eggs (I have plenty) and two packets of southern fried chicken which we don’t usually eat. DH thinks I might have had a a drop of wine before I placed the order...... he may well be right ?
Tomorrow is due to be very wet and windy so has been designated tidying up day (oh joy ?) .

Solid rain most of the day but despite that it was full of fun.
The cafe was closed so we went to the Italian restaurant where we were a bit close together and these women make me laugh so much that I had to use my mask to hide my squeals of laughter.

In between times I have been searching the house for some home movies. I have one taken at my Dsis wedding 50 years ago but it is not to be found. We keep imagining we gave it to someone to put it on video/dvd and they never returned it. She and her DC would love to see it.

I spent too much time in the attic and found so many interesting things piles of rubbish that I think we should hire a skip.

Was it you Panache who moved very quickly last year? or was it you Doodle. Either way I would love to hear your story if you can bear to tell it.

A big warm and belated Hi gangsters from Wales........ trying to overcome quite a battering both from wind and rain.
We personally escaped, apart from our little study window blowing wide open and almost losing it,thankfully being such a light sleeper I was immediately "on the case," though it took some brute strength to retrieve and save the situation.
However many areas,especially camp sites here in Pembrokeshire were badly flooded and many were evacuated.

Fortunately the rains had ceased before our dubious trip to the dentist, and yes Doodle we both returned with all the teeth we left here with!

I think the sheer excitement of it all proved too much for us both,we are so unused to people and groups.My dear man was quite poorly in fact,whilst apart fom his cancer issues he is having quite a rough deal with his emphysema.
Sleepless nights are not being very helpful.
I certainly felt very strange (nothing new there then I hear you mutter!!)

Whilst delighted that although your Hospital `op was quite a mammoth one Mamissimo so pleased that you were discharched nice and early,although there are those usual little blips......hopefully with such loving care from your beloved you will be fighting fit very soon.

I love designing and had I not got in for Nursing I may well have tried my hand in some form of design.Whilst I love old slate/stone flagstones they are certainly far from warm and definately not practical in many cases.

Morning all. Good news about Missy Nortsat. Always worrying when animals are off their food. I had a 24 hour BP monitor too. I think I slept in the armchair when I had mine as it kept waking me up. Hope your results are ok.

We have so many building sites round us now too. People need to see grass and trees in my opinion and open space to calm the mind.

Not a lot has happened here...DH seems to think I need feeding up. I asked if I could have some salmon for supper last night and he decided Shepherds Pie was what I needed ?

Cruising around Norfolk roads in a vintage open top car does sound rather wonderful.

I agree about the filling up of the countryside with endless housing estates. We have them near here too and why are they so ugly! If I go into Edinburgh by bus I can no longer see the hills even from the top. I know people have to live somewhere but aren't we killing the goose which lays the golden eggs?

When I went base over apex in my garage, I damaged tendons and they take ages to heal. I think I need the Acme Bottom Saver, as pictured.

Nortsat (nice to see you back) and Nfk When I first visited the area where I now live, it was all orchards, vineyard, forests and fields. It's now houses as far as the eye can see.
Imagine what that's done to the wildlife, botany and the overall eco-system.
Animals shouldn't need a sanctuary but if that's the only way we can save them from our prodigality, so be it. But isn't it sad?

Please be glad Norfolk still has its old lanes and acres of farmland and places where wild birds can over-winter. They are precious - and we've lost so much already.

My ranch-slider door scared me only yesterday - it was open a mere two inches but the wind whistled through with such a loud, human sound, I thought someone was in the house! My heart was pounding until I realised what it really was.

It's bitterly cold today but sunny, so I still have the doors open. Every now and then I leave my computer and run my frozen hands under a hot tap I'm enjoying the research necessary to complete the blog entries, even if I do look like Mr Magoo afterwards!

Ninarosa I was a bit worried when I saw your post about your ‘smalls’ ... not another peculiar one I thought ... then I enlarged the photo of your ‘smalls’ and it made me laugh.

Thanks Cherry, Missy is fine. She was off her food for two days and as she is a 16.5 year old cat, we were concerned. We booked her an urgent appointment at the vets. As soon as we had done so, she ate all her supper and then all her breakfast the following morning! So we rang the vet and they said we shouldn’t take her (she has a heart condition and panics in the car and in the Waiting Room). We should just continue to monitor her food intake and watch her.
The Vet Nurse said Missy had obviously overheard me making the appointment and decided to eat all her food, so she didn’t have to go to the Vet.
Doodle let’s hope we all have a quieter night tonight, without rattling windows and howling wind.
Bradford sounds like the Lego will be a great success at Chr***mas.
I have got a 24 hour blood pressure monitor strapped to my arm, which is currently inflating and measuring my BP every 30 mins. After 11.00 pm it inflates only hourly, but as it buzzes and clicks, we thought it made sense for my partner to sleep in the spare bed tonight.

I've had quite a busy day, well busier than it's been recently. Did a load of washing, sorted out a chest of drawers, cleaned the extension and "sealed" it off until tomorrow, did another load of washing and made a lasagna, koftis, flatbreads and a cherry tart (*not completely in that order). I was putting out the second load of washing out and thinking 'ah, I think I've earned a cuppa' when one of my neighbours was passing, he stopped for a chat .... my cuppa sits beside me now! ?

I'm intrigued about your vintage car/s not having reverse gear. I thought that all, even vintage, cars had to have a reverse gear to be legal on the road ?. What do I know, I don't even drive do I ?.

BradfordLass I agree 100%. You would think that when designing and fitting, including the flooring, homes that are meant to be specially for older and/or disabled people they would consider whether it was fit for purpose. What they should do, in my book, is fit high grade non slip "vinyl", the type fitted in hospitals. I have it fitted in my upstairs bathroom and the downstairs extension. It has a very good grip. When we, eventually ?, get our new kitchen it's definitely being fitted in there too.
My great nephew2 loves ? Lego. He loves the kits with the teeny tiny bricks. Lego has come a long way since I was young, the architect ones are amazing.

Concrete floors are a nightmare Grammaretto. Our lounge and dining room have concrete floors. We laid a wooden floor (lined of course) on top of the floor in the dining room and carpet in the lounge. It would have been a nightmare for me otherwise. I hope you are recovering from your fall.

Mamissimo you were clearly well cared for in hospital ?. That was some operation you had. It never ceases to amaze me what these skilled surgeons can do now. I always find it a weird experience, they give you anaesthetic and then... it's done and you're awake. You have no idea how long it's taken. That may sound strange coming from someone who loses consciousness on a regular basis ?.
I'm glad your cleaner has come to help. I won't give you flowers, since it sounds like you have plenty and so much better than any I can offer so I send you some ?.

Hope everything is okay with you Nflk. We received a letter, yes some people still write them, from Norfolk today. It is a lovely part of the country, I love all the little towns and villages as well as the landscape.

I hope the family matter that you thought might keep you away from us is settled down or is settling down. Good Heavens Grammaretto, I should think your tigger tail is a bit droopy - four hours! And it sounds as if it was a little complicated too, and surgeons love that. They do seem to relish a challenge!

Thank you for defending Norfolk roads Missedout. They can be very devious, our roads. No really, really steep hills and few sharp bends - except when you're lulled into a relaxed state at the end of straight bits around old field systems. Instead they gentle sway and swing from right to left until you can't tell which way you're faced!

I love the idea of cruising around in a vintage car with the top down and drool over the ones appearing occasionally at our local stately pile and the narrow gauge railway down the road. How does anyone manage without a reverse gear? I do remember such things did exist but that was in the days before white van man and enormous tractors on our narrow roads.

Now off to look up laparoscopic cholecystectomy. My DiL's mum had one last week (straightforward apparently), but I've no real idea what it entailed as I didn't know what it was called!

No more antibiotics for DH today so hopefully a better night tonight. It was so windy and dark here last night. We could hear this tremendous whistling and rattling noise, quite ghostly and loud. Then DH found out that one of our windows was open a tiny fraction and that was the source of the problem. It didn’t help that I had been watching a trailer for a poltergeist series. ?

Good morning gang!

I'm surviving and should be far more the thing by the weekend. My op was jolly complicated and took 4 hours instead of the anticipated one but my lovely very Ra consultant came bounding in to see me and to thank me for a wonderful dissection experience. Apparently it was 'super'. Turns out that when my stoma was reversed an awful lot of adhesions formed and they did some nifty sorting out before they could reach the gall bladder. Clever people!

I felt very safe because I had a private suite which they are using for people who have been shielded, and the surgery took place in the same building which has small theatres normally used for endoscopies etc. It's been kept Covid free throughout the pandemic and used for shielded people who needed treatment.

DH is looking after me well and the place looks like a florists shop. Our lovely cleaner is coming in to help him every day because otherwise I'd get dinner at bedtime....bless him but his body clock is completely different to mine. There's a ten year age difference between us and I'm a lark and he's an owl...but we didn't really discover this until we were retired.

My tigger tail is a bit droopy today and I think I'm back to bed...?

I was lucky the fall wasn't too bad. The thin hall rug on ancient lino tiles on concrete floor is not as bad as when I slipped on black ice once and broke my wrist. (the same wrist which I'd broken a few months before in a stable while trying to push a solid exmoor pony out of my way)
I learned a lesson then that any pony, however small, is stronger than me.

Grammaretto I was told the rug just inside my front door was a tripping hazard and I should get rid of it.
I pointed out that the tiles it covered were ultra-slippy when wet and far more dangerous than a rug.

Whoever designed these houses for the elderly put no thought into it at all.
Tiles on the kitchen floor too - forcing me to have carpet laid after I fell 3 times in the first month I lived here.
Fortunately, I'm well padded

I am feeling quite proud of myself today. Small thing really but it took some doing.
I wanted to buy my grandson a Lego Creator pack as his Christmas gift.
A local store sells it and I have earned gift cards for that store, by doing online surveys.
Each card has 16 tiny numbers one must put into the order form. I had 12 cards So 12 lots of 16 numbers to key in. It took ages but I did it!

My eyes were protesting but I ignored them and just ploughed on. The pack will be delivered next week. Yay!

I know it seems crazy to do Christmas shopping in August but as things are, Lego is in big demand and I could have lost out if I'd waited.

Yes Nfk I too was thinking about the specious arguments over face covering and how it and the demonising of plastic has all faded away now we need them.
My friend in NY calls it 'the dog whistle effect'.

I was invited to contribute to a book documenting 'How it is for the elderly in NZ' and they've just written to say they've chosen my words. Sadly, the editor told me I was one of very few who didn't write a catalogue of moans.

Hi gangsters, I thought I'd look in and wish you all a good night.

Today, DH and I 'ate out to help out' with another couple. Our friends had booked it as soon as the vouchers were announced but had difficulty in finding somewhere with vacancies. It was pleasant to do something normal.

In defence of Norfolk, the roads and countryside are lovely, especially when seen from the seat of an open vintage car. DH installed a hidden cigar lighter socket in our car so I use sat nav when out and about. As our runs are planned, I usually program our various destinations into the sat nav, so if we fall behind, we can catch up or, if as frequently happens, we can take the lead if we are all lost. (Not all our cars have reverse gears so turning and retracing our route is not always the best solution.)

I'll be back again soon but just wanted to say that I'm glad that guv Doodle returned so quickly, that Mamissimo is posting again but sorry to hear that Cherry's tigger tail is flagging a bit. Also, thank you, all of you for being here.

PS - I have a dentist appointment at last - I never thought I'd look forward so much to such an event.

So you managed to get three hats on and Grammaretto can't find one big enough. I have the opposite problem usually - they're all too big ?. I really hate Christmas crackers as all those hats just slip down over my head and end up round my neck ? ?.
