Covid vaccination trials

I've signed but whether they'll be interested as I'm immune suppressed, who knows.

I’d be very scared of Russian vaccines.......... but maybe not that scared.

We're doing the Covid19 Tracker too and have signed up for vaccine trials. Haven't heard anything yet though.

I'm not sure as I'm diabetic so more at risk than some. I'd like to help though .

I've signed up but not heard back yet. Ancient but fit (as far as I know!). Feel, if I'm prepared to let others do it and reap any benefits, somewhat duty bound but not in any pressurised way. Healthily nervous but willing.

We have to be thankful to those who take part in trials. If nobody was willing to volunteer we would never get any further.
I am unable to have vaccines as they are made through the medium of egg and I have an allergy to egg. I have to rely on others (when vaccines have been tested and are safe) to be vaccinated to reduce the number of people who are infected.

I just think of the trials available when my girl was so poorly.
Using one which had never been tested on humans was really a last resort, had she ever managed to be suitable for one.

Many vaccine trials have gone wrong over the years and people have died or been left invalided and then other cases of pharmaceutical medication like thalidomide which was trialed on humans and seemed perfect but no one thought it could effect the unborn children of those taking it It amazes me that people are so terrified of the virus they re still barely poking their nose out the door but will sign up for an unknown rushed through vaccine
I m not at all amazed at the 35% quoted by bluesky I expect the number is similar or more in UK

I have signed up for the vaccine test via the ZOE Covid 19 Symptons study run by King's College London. I have answered questions on my health daily since since the start of lockdown. Must admit I am a bit apprehensive about the vaccine but personally I feel that if none of us try to help we will never beat this thing. I am 69 years old, active, healthy vegetarian and am willing to help if possible. As of yet I have not heard if I am to be a human Guinea pig or not. I would add that it is up to the individual and who knows if I hear back that I am accepted I might bottle out.

Hello all...I am a newbie to Gransnet. I have found this set of comms very interesting and such a varied range of responses. I have just signed up to be a vaccination guinea pig. I am 79 and was in and out of hospital all of June having a bacterial infection treated. On one 'incarceration' the hospital generously gave me Covid. It was a variant. None of the usual symptoms. I had mainly neurological symptoms such as headache, nausea, weird 'floating' feeling, loss of balance and coordination, speech difficulty and unable to think straight. I was left to recover at home, which I largely have done. However, I think I now have 'long Covid' because many of the above symptoms keep coming back in a less intense form. Sometimes I can push through and carry on with my day and on other occasions I am disabled. Therefore I thought I really need to do whatever I can to help manage this nasty virus via the development of a vaccine. Wishing you all well.

I thought about it but, as I currently live the life of a hermit, there doesn't seem much point. I am unlikely to be able to provide them with any useful data as I try to stay inside our tiny bubble. I am grateful to those who, having decided to venture out, do volunteer.

I was exasperated to see that 35% of Americans interviewed said they will decline a vaccine if one is discovered. It is so absurd - the protocols are not being relaxed, vaccine isn't poison, Big Pharma hasn't created the virus to sell vaccine, neither has Bill Gates... In fact, if I was Bill Gates and got so much online abuse, I would be tempted to think, "Damn you, I will go and spend my money on something else. You don't deserve my help."

My hometown, Leicester, was the centre of opposition to the smallpox vaccine in the 19th century. (No wonder my great-grandmother got smallpox.) Looking at the anti-vaxxers on the Leicestershire Live page on Facebook, I wonder if there is such a thing as hereditary stupidity. Someone there said recently that they would not have the corona virus vaccine because "they are putting a microchip in it."

I just want to say thank you to all those who have volunteered for the trials. At nearly 80 with multiple conditions I don’t think it is something I dare to do - I have only left the house 4 times since early March, - and I am really grateful to those that have.

I have signed up for the tracker and the vaccine.

At 72 I would sign up like a shot, but I'm already part of a Covid survey, so I think I'm not eligible. I will be making enquiries.

Jane Gilbert who is running the Oxford trials was speaking on the radio at the end of July, and her adult children are part of one of the vaccine trials. What mother would let her children take part in anything risky? I am convinced there is no need for concern.

I have signed up, and also check in to the covid19 ap every day for myself and DH to say that we are OK. I am 73 next December and in good health.

I signed up to the Covid19 tracker and I have to report how I feel everyday and once a week answer a few questions on how many times I’ve been out or worn a mask etc. As part of that study I agreed to be part of a trial but before that I would be given more information and the choice to sign up or decline.

I wouldn't touch a Russian vaccine with a bargepole! I, too, am desparate for a vaccine, but not that desparate! I have thought of trialing one, but if it doesn't cover the version of Covid around it's useless. Good Luck, though!

I have put myself forward for a trial but have not been contacted yet. I have a comorbidity (a lung condition) and am aged 61.
I have read that the vaccine is further along in development than would usually be expected because they are able to use preliminary work on other related coronaviruses such as SARS and MERS.
