Why did he bother? Usual amount of waffle and no clear directives. Why doesn’t he quit if he can’t deal with this competently and let somebody more more capable take over. But who?

JenniferEccles Wed 23-Sept-20 08:49:10

It’s been said many times before but the fact still remains that the PM can’t win.

We all know the problem he has don’t we ?

He is managing the extremely difficult balancing act of trying to suppress the spread of the virus yet at the same time protect the economy and livelihoods of millions.

Do any of you criticising him honestly think that’s an easy job?

LauraNorder Wed 23-Sept-20 08:29:41

I think the Prime Minister delivered this important message very clearly and sincerely. “Your mild cough could be someone else’s death knell”. How much clearer could he be. His hair, hands, suit, face, baby, dog...and we’re only on page two!

Ellianne Wed 23-Sept-20 08:28:09

Yes, Fanny, let's have a nice image to start the day.

FannyCornforth Wed 23-Sept-20 08:19:33

Carrie and Dilyn are the only things that Johnson has got going for him.
I do wonder about his and Carrie's relationship.

Furret Wed 23-Sept-20 08:13:39

Oh no. The dog is adorable. I certainly would not tolerate that being subjected to any unkind remarks either ??

Ellianne Wed 23-Sept-20 08:11:38

Furret

You cannot separate the ‘man’ from the message.

I realize that, Furret, but in this short thread alone we've had his hair, his face, his hands!!
Other threads .... his weight, his suit, how he holds his baby etc.
The only thing no one criticises is his dog, (or I would really go for them! Grrrowl!)

SueDonim that’s a desperately sad situation for your friends. I agree with paddyanne . I’m sure when the local restrictions were introduced in Scotland recently preventing visiting other households it was said those providing care and support to a vulnerable person were excluded from the restrictions. In this sad situation for your friend and his wife they clearly need input from others and fit that category. Informal child care has now also been added to that exemption category.

Furret Wed 23-Sept-20 08:04:38

Ellianne sorry, should have headed post as PM.

It wasn't Boris' broadcast, it was the Prime Minister's message to the country and was introduced as such. I do object to everyone analysing the personality rather than the content of the message. Maybe if some eloquent orator had delivered the information we would consider things differently!..........

Thank you for this excellent comment ellianne.

one commenter said she can't stand Boris's face, what sort of childishness is that?

Ellianne

Yes, Furret, I agree completely.
I think that she would have been a calm and reassuring presence.
She would have led by example.

FannyCornforth Wed 23-Sept-20 07:48:41

Ha ha! No I'm not!

Furret Wed 23-Sept-20 07:48:37

D’you know Fanny I think I said this earlier in the pandemic.
Though not a ‘fan’ this is exactly the sort of situation she would have tackled with precision and logic. Women leaders in general seem to have more of of a grip.

As far as being being ‘preached’ at by NS well words fail me. She at least says what she thinks and there are too many, right across the UK, who need to be ‘preached’ at. It the cap fits...

I can't help but keep thinking what a brilliant job Mrs May would have done with this.
I think that she would have been in her element.

?

Think you’re confusing her with Margaret Thatcher.

maybe the queen should take over

SueDonim Wed 23-Sept-20 00:42:40

Yes, they’re in Scotland.

His family has been seeing him recently but now they can’t, from today. It’s also that they’re not able to offer their mum the support she needs. Being sole carer takes a terrible toll when all the normal support avenues are closed to you. She has been no further than the village shop and pharmacy since April.

Do they live in Scotland? I thought in England we can still go to visit houses as long as we stick to the rule of 6? Unless your area has local lockdowns?

Unless I missed some news today.

SueDonim Wed 23-Sept-20 00:02:37

Thanks for that, Paddyanne. Do you need to get an official document or anything? They live in two different areas so do they need to check out both?

I’m pretty sure we won’t be able to see our friend again. Forty years we’ve known them. sad

paddyanne Tue 22-Sept-20 23:50:07

if its the no visiting other houses ,that doesn't apply to people who are providing help for either physical or mental welfare reasons. We doubled checked as OH's mum has no support other than us,his sister still works so she cant visit her mum who was sheilding .I msgd my (SNP) MP who said under welfare circumstances visits were still allowed .Get your friends daughter to double check but iif they are being careful I dont think theres an issue

I think you'll find there are exemptions where family welfare is concerned ,checkm it out but your friend should have been able to see his family for weeks now and ongoing if its crucial to his welfare .

SueDonim Tue 22-Sept-20 22:28:25

Our friend is dying pretty fast of cancer. It’s cruel to deny him the company of his children, GC and friends and cruel that his wife is having to cope with his illness all on her own.

In the four or five months since diagnosis they’ve had a MacMillan nurse come to the house twice and that is all the hands-on medical care he’s had. The rest consists of ‘come and pick up a prescription’ which is v difficult because he can’t be left and no one will come and sit with him. sad

Gwyneth Tue 22-Sept-20 22:22:54

Well I thought the PMs message was pretty clear. This thread, as usual is just another excuse for more Boris bashing and no I have don’t have any political allegiance. I just try to keep an ‘open mind’.
