Refusing to wear a mask

Reading this thread, and others, it still seems that people think wearing the mask is for their own protection, not that if the people around the. Yes, the evidence indicates that some protection is given to the wearer but, that is not the main reason for wearing one.

Many of those who refuse to wear one appear to think it is nobody else’s business because they are only risking their own health. I just wish they would realise that it is other people’s health they are gambling with.

ive had that said to me.....ive said to a passenger that you should be wearing a mask.....they say ..whats it got to do with you... i say..its got everything to do with me...you are on a bus ..not wearing a mask...so you have the ability to spread it to everyone on this bus and everyone that you come into contact with....so why are you not wearing a mask...? its at that point i usually get abuse back

if i had to say a percentage of non mask wearing. on buses .i would say its about 80% females not wearing masks ,, to 20% males not wearing masks.. I havent been on a train since CV but reading comments in the Metro daily paper, about passengers on trains not wearing masks, it would seem a very high percentage of train passngers are not wearing masks too

A general picture on buses would be 16 to 25 ish females dont wear masks... Its very evident at bus stops near schools ..when floods of male and female 15 ish to 17 ish school kids get on buses and most are either not wearing any masks or they are wearing "chin warmers" thats when the only part thats being covered..is the chin and neck

andymorris Have you ever remonstrated with male passengers over their non-wearing of masks, or have I missed that? Apologies if I have. What was their response? I note that you say the females you spoke to all got off the bus - as usual, it would be interesting to hear their version of the exchange. And in your first post it sounds as though you swore at one - I would find that intimidating.

hi im seeing that the percentage off females not wearing masks is much higher than the percentage of males not wearing masks...My " bullocks" comment you have taken out of context slightly..it was made after lots of passengers seem to think that they dont have to wear masks because their exemption will stop them from getting CV...Ive seen passngers challenge other passengers for not wearing masks..and i have chalenged some..And a common comment from non mask wearers is that they think they are "special" and dont need to wear masks...And when i said someone got off the bus, it wasnt because there was a non mask wearer on the bus..it was because they got off the bus because that was their stop to get off

I wear a mask to protect others so expected that he would do the same too.
The likelihood of this happening is not understood at all it seems.
I and my family have been isolating since March and this included my husband.
My husband was taken into hospital for another health problem and whilst in hospital I received a phone call telling me not to visit because the ward was closed owing to 2 other patients with Covid-19.
At that time he was found not to have this after testing several times but another day, another test showed positive
and right now he is receiving oxygen, fluids and antibiotics
and I have been unable to speak with him for several days.
I get the impression that there are far too many people out there that are in agreement with it won't happen to me,
We here in the UK need to remember we are a small island
which means we need to operate in a much different way than those in the USA.

I wouldn't say anything. He's a grown man. Because we give birth to them doesn't mean they think the same as us. You don't want to alienate him

Can I just add 2 Americans supposedly died of Covid. That's just from the media who are just scaremongering and Dr's who are told to put Covid on death certificates even if the patient died of other issues. They could have died of anything.

This isn't a criticism of your parenting care and love. He is an adult now and has the complete freedom to make even life threatening mistakes. If he chooses to make life destroying decisions that's up to him. You have to leave a forty plus person to do whatever they think. I really hope he doesn't personally find out the perameters of this disease are much more deadly than he has convinced himself they are. What intrigues me is why, since you aren't even on the same continent, he thinks he should tell you. You won't be getting together for some time so just let it go.

You must know very different people in the US from my family & friends there, Ilovecats as I can only think of one friend there who would vote for Trump.

The rest of my family & friends are horrified by the lies Trump tells, his cavalier treatment of the pandemic in which more than 200k people have died, his self-confessed history of sexually assaulting women, his disrespecting of military veterans and his racism and support of white supremacism.

You should be like Trump. I am in the UK but have friends in the US and from what I have observed and read he is the best president the U.S has ever had. I believe he genuinely cares for the people of the U.S and loves his country whereas Biden does not. I would not trust him at all and think he will be bad news for the U.S. I would happily swap Boris for Trump. A mask will not protect you but the selling of masks is big business with plenty of money being made from them so can understand why they are pushing them. My son wears one and still ended up with a cold.
