We heard about it on the 1 o'clock news, Radio 4. It sounds really hopeful and cheered us both up. We would both gladly try it, if it's offered.

I thought it was 40 million doses, 10 million by end of year, then a further 30 million later?

Lucca

Well I’d jump at it !

Me too!

BBC lunchtime news said that we had already bought £400 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine ( 2 doses are needed per person) and this is only one of the companies working on the vaccine. There are a number of others including our own Oxford based lab. I think its great news hopefully they are starting with front line health workers before the New Year and then the vulnerable which includes DH and DD1 so I am happy bunny today.

It's given us hope. We need hope.

Franbern I am interested- I just would not be first in the queue.

I think the EU said that they would be prepared to make the vaccine available to the UK, which is good news.

Armynanny Mon 09-Nov-20 13:30:39

Great news. I knew they would make one as there are some very clever people out there. I’ve also been reminding myself when I’ve been down due to the situation that nothing lasts forever.

Great news bring it on!!

Lucca Mon 09-Nov-20 13:25:30

Far north why are you worried about that ? Are you concerned about possible side effects ?

FarNorth Mon 09-Nov-20 13:23:58

WWM2 I missed that bit in the BBC report. :-)

I'm a little worried about the plan to give vaccine first to those deemed most vulnerable.
I do very much hope that it is proved to be effective, tho.

???

“That sound you can hear is the government preparing to give £300bn to roll out the vaccine to a company that makes hats run by someone who doesn't even know what a vaccine is but is married to a Tory MP.“

The week has a very positive feel for me - a new US President and vaccines for Covid just around the corner.
It’s a tonic that was much needed.
It would be no hardship to get a Covid jab once a year as we do with the flu jab.
If it brings back a more normal way of life most people will be persuaded to go for it I think.

Franbern Mon 09-Nov-20 13:12:45

Hopefully, just the start with others coming into being. As there is, at present, no knowledge as to how long the immunity lasts, it could well become, like the 'flu' jab, something that need doing annually.
For a long time I was a little pessimistic about getting a vaccine before about 2025, but am now more optimistic about this.
With vaccines, hopefully our lives can slowly start to return to the 'old normal'.
Okay.......I am now waiting for all those coming on to say they would not risk taking this, etc. etc. etc.

What a lovely week this is turning out to be!

With luck it will pass all the safety tests and off we go.

Be able to plan again, all the lovely stuff we have not been able to do.
