Congratulations!! Whoever you are???

Margaret looks amazing for her age. I liked her first reason for having the vaccine was that it was free !

I read that she only retired four years ago, maybe that has helped her plus he happy positive outlook. She really seems to enjoy being around people. My aunt was like that at 90, had loads of visitors including young people as she was such fun to be around and didn’t dwell on herself but always wanted to talk about what they had been up to.

Is it intended people over 80 will go to some big hospital for the jab, or to the GP or practice nurse? Must we apply , or does someone send for us?

Yes, that’s why I wanted it.?

You aren’t old enough. I bet I’m older than you!

I'm on the train now on my way to Guys in London for endoscopy. I can't help but hope they offer me the vaccine . I am in shielding/ extremely vulnerable group but I'm only 66 (!!) so unlikely but I cant help having my fingers crossed!

I had hoped that I would be the first? but since am not in the age bracket, the most I can hope for is to be first in my own GN age bracket.
Will we get a prize whitewave? ?

We ought to but unfortunately it will have to be virtual, which takes the edge off a bit.

How about with the wisdom of age they get the final word in disputes????? Think of the power!!

It is reported in all the usual papers - Express, Mirror, Mail etc. The Standard has a calmer report - www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/warning-patients-pfizer-biontech-covid-allergic-reactions-b229762.html

I'm on the Oxford trial so I'm hoping I have had the real vaccine.

Elegran Wed 09-Dec-20 10:19:30

felice It seems that "the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) issued precautionary advice to NHS trusts that anyone who has a history of “significant” allergic reactions should not receive the vaccine."

It isn't stated, but that sounds as though the two peope (not the first two vaccinated, but among the people vaccinated on the first day - not quite the same) had shown allergic reactions to other things. That should be known in people's medical history and precautions taken.

It could prove a set-back for take-up and success, though.

Scaremongering then!

Just heard on Radio 4 news that the first 2 people to have it have had allergic reactions to it.
I might put my appointment back a bit.
I am 66 and not isolating so hopefully if I carry on as I have I will be ok.

This is not quite true

2 people out of thousands vaccinated yesterday have had an allergic reaction. I'm sure more information will be available soon

Is that definitely true? I can't find anything online.

Wish I could be first, but as the youngest of my circle of friends I will see them all get vaccinated whilst I just have to wait - I can see them gloating already!

Oooh, I hope that the "first" Gransnetter steps forward & tells us! Our medical practice has sent me a text asking whether I'd say "yes", "no": or "undecided" if offered the jab. (I'm 70, with no relevant medical issues.) I replied "Yes!" Has anyone else had such a text?

No. That's interesting. At least you will know you haven't been forgotten and the practice will know how many doses they need to allocate.

I am on the 11th of January at 14.00, SIL the 24th but he has to go to a centre for his.

I may be - 50% chance. I'm on the Oxford trial. No problems at all.

The first GNetter should surely post a photo of them having it done, just the arm so can still be anonymous. It would be good for morale grin

I'd have to look at the needle going in then!

Although I'm extremely, critically vulnerable, I'm only sixty five, so definitely won't be first in the queue. I shall just have to stay put, as my consultant has told me that Covid will be the end of me. I will be lucky to get the vaccine by springtime. ?

I listened to the Scottish Deputy Chief Medical Officer the other day and she said GP surgeries had been inundated with calls from people demanding wanting to know when they would receive the vaccine.

She emphasised that GP surgeries in Scotland were unable to offer vaccination, due to the low temp requirement of the Pfizer vaccine and asked people to refrain from calling surgeries and wasting staff's time.
Everyone will be notified by letter in due course. I'm sure there will be contingency plans for those who cannot travel. I'm just glad that a vaccine has been found.

Whem I'm offered the vaccination, I will be happy to travel.

I agree Lucca, I certainly would have got there somehow, but there are people who are reluctant to take taxis or can’t afford them, public transport isn’t brilliant even though I live in a semi rural area, or don’t have family or friends to fill the gap.
However, first thing this morning another text arrived from the surgery headlined Correction. It seems that we will have local centres instead. I guess their phones must have been redhot!
