Has anybody tried the new coronavirus calculator

In my case there are between 9.9 and 12.3 million in the queue before me. Based on vaccination 1 million per week and a 70% take up, my expected date is between 24 February and 13 March

I don’t believe a word of it

Between 20/1 and 26/2.
I’ll be pleasantly surprised if that actually happens.

I have a big birthday in March, so I have the added uncertainty of whether or not I will be in my 'new' age group by the time they start vaccinating that group!

¡Que será sera!

I’d presumed that the results from the people who had the half dose then the full dose needed more validation by that combination being used on greater numbers of people, because they appear to improve the effectiveness of the vaccine. If by waiting a little while, millions of people benefit from a more effective vaccine the short wait will be worthwhile.

As I understand it, the regulators are wading through the data on the Oxford vaccine as we speak and it can’t be rushed. One of the papers this morning says it’s imminent though. Also the Moderna one has just been approved for use in the USA. We have some of that on pre-order.

Why aren't we being told why the delay with the Oxford vaccine? After all, it's easier to administer in terms of logistics, it's cheaper, and it's home grown.

Where is it in the grand scheme of things?

Elusivebutterfly Fri 18-Dec-20 18:10:15

That's earlier than I thought. Mine is the same as the OP. My local pharmacist thought it would be Easter for my age group.

He'll be Number 7 in the list, so he'll just have to wait, along with all the other people doing risky jobs.
Yes that's fine, growstuff he understands that totally.
This thread isn't about what number in the queue one is, (though I do also disagree with some of the order). Its about having to wait until early summer and carrying on risky jobs at the same time when one is over 60. Have a heart, that for some of us this will have been going on nearly 15 months with a slow end in sight. Those who don't have empathy can be dismissive at times.

Yes growstuff visiting different schools in different areas of the country, by train, and having to stay in hotels will be risky at 60 years old awaiting the vaccine.

I can’t see how they can make these predictions at this early stage. They are basing it on 1 million a week being done without supplies being secured as yet.

Let’s look on the bright side and hope other vaccines will soon be ready to be distributed and it’ll be full steam ahead early in the new year.

Until then, wishing you all good health. Stay safe.

I'm a bit worried about the Oxford vaccine. Is it poorly? Sarah Gilbert said on the Today prog that it should be approved by Christmas but yesterday Chris Whitty said perhaps early next year. Why is it taking so long? Something to do with the dosage?

Does anybody have news of the Oxford vaccine or when the next Pfizer delivery is due?

growstuff Thu 17-Dec-20 21:29:08

Ellianne

Yes, we just have to wait and see.
The vaccine is however more pressing if you are early 60s and working.
My DH says he will be very put out if he is expected to be back at work in a risky environment next spring with no vaccine.

But classrooms aren't a risky environment (allegedly).

He's going to be very put out.

vampirequeen Thu 17-Dec-20 21:18:19

Mine said end of Jan/beginning of Feb. I'll believe it when the needle is in my arm.

Casdon Thu 17-Dec-20 16:09:15

It’s all geared up to deliver at the rate that’s identified, there’s been a huge exercise internally within the NHS to get mass vaccination centres up and running, just waiting on approval for the Oxford vaccine, and for more local vaccinations to start as well for those who are home bound, otherwise supply will be an issue, because the manufacture of the Pfizer vaccine won’t be quick enough to meet the timescales.

Jane10 Thu 17-Dec-20 16:03:44

Between 24th Feb and 13th March. They'll have to be going at some speed to get there on time!

Apparently I will get mine at the end of January!

MissAdventure Thu 17-Dec-20 15:53:08

Not a good sign, really.

AmberSpyglass Thu 17-Dec-20 15:51:57

They also spell vaccine wrong...

Daisymae Thu 17-Dec-20 15:50:33

Yes, similar results for me. I don't think that it's accurate at all. There won't be 70 percent uptake. There will be distribution and supply problems. Plus a shortage of staff. Do we will have to wait and see

Tizliz Thu 17-Dec-20 15:17:07

It doesn’t ask where you are. There are more people in front of me than the population of Scotland

tanith Thu 17-Dec-20 15:08:07

28 Jan to 24 Feb for me

MissAdventure Thu 17-Dec-20 14:59:14

The process needs to become 4 times faster in order to meet the targets set, apparently.

Franbern Thu 17-Dec-20 14:48:27

17-28th Jan for me also. Oh, well we will find out how accurate this is within a reasonably short time.
