Jabs for the elderly ...

My mum's second dose was due this coming Tuesday, but has now been cancelled.
She knew it wouldn't make any difference, and already knew the answer anyway, but still rang her surgery for an explanation, given she had initially been told how essential it was to attend for that second jab three weeks after the first.

The answer given was "Boris says we have to".

Though I did see a headline today saying that surgeries are being offered £1,000 to stop giving those second doses.

The amount they need to do in order to fulfill the schedule is huge!
Just hoping they do.

As of 3 Jan over 31,000 had had 2nd dose according to gov.uk.

It's a lottery at the moment.
Hopefully we will see a more orderly system emerging.

Figures on the progress have been promised by boris and co.

biba70 our local surgery has vaccinated approx 2,000 people so far. Those who had their first one before Christmas, around the 18th have received their second last week.

My local GP hub spent today giving all the eligible people in their practices their second dose.

Lovely to hear some are getting their jabs and at the proper interval- despite a change in policy

So who says 70 year olds should not be vaccinated who may not need to work but out of compassion, carry out tasks for the vulnerable, which many would only do with payment ? I have a 70 yr old neighbour who on a daily basis leaves her home to walk several doors away to make sure her invalid friend younger than her has a breakfast, helps her to wash etc etc. and carry out many other tasks Does not this 70 year old lady deserve vaccination? who more than likely is carrying out tasks what possibly?many a 50 year would not do unless paid?

A friend aged 79 went for his today and said it was horrendous, no social distancing at all, long queues close together, and then all crammed into one room for 15 minutes afterwards. I really hope they haven't been hiding away for months only to catch it having their jabs!

But older people have been more likely to be hospitalised due to Covid. it is about reducing hospital admissions.

I am 70 and care 24/7 part of me says vaccinate 30 - 50 yr olds they are our future. We will stay isolated, we dont need to work, we cannot be out there doing voluntary work...what do you think?

They had a doctor come to them. The first patients had to go to hospitals.

I thought they'd have been amongst the first ones, however better than not at all.

That's a good new story. Definitely both earned their place in the queue.

They are both in their 90s so are in that first group to be vaccinated.
