What is a 'good' reason to travel, according to Priti Patel?

Do they mean just business or urgent family matters? Can’t see no summer holidays again this year, we’ll be lucky if we can travel within the UK. Not that I’m interested anyway.

I can't think of many 'good reasons' to travel, really.

Business can be done over Zoom or equivalent, as can social meetings with family and friends. It's not the same, I know, but it's not essential that people meet face to face.

Unfortunately, vagueness will result in confusion, and in there being one rule for the 'elite', and another for the rest of us. The difference is that unless people have their own planes, it is going to be more difficult to get from A to B unnoticed.

Well as I see it, it’s only reiterating the fact that it’s already illegal to go on holiday. And that means in this country too. We are not supposed to be travelling anywhere, at home or abroad. Personally I don’t think business requires travelling in this difficult climate either, because with the World Wide Web, who needs to travel? There are very few reasons to need to travel abroad as I see it, urgent family problems are the only legitimate reason as I see it. I’m disgusted with the number of people entering this country every day and I hope this tightening up will curb it.

There doesnt seem to be a good reason to travel apart from medical emergencies.

We haven’t got any locally transmitted cases of Covid here and we are not allowed to travel except interstate to some states. How come people in the uk are still travelling? How come people are still allowed to come there ? Very hard to understand.

I don't find it fraught with difficulties. Don't travel at all. The message to stay home has been well drummed into all of us. As for the interpretation of a good reason, surely that should not be beyond our understanding.

As it is such a small country have you all been vaccinated at least once?

The logistics here are difficult but we are getting there being one of the top countries in the world to have given the most vaccines.

Someone said on another thread that Kate Moss had travelled to Paris to fulfill a modelling assignment! Since when has modelling been an essential occupational? She then apparently travelled on to the Caribbean for another modelling assignment. It truly disgusts me how the rich and famous are able to carry on travelling as if nothing is happening. Modelling is not essential work.

I totally agree- and my post was to indicate just that.

The message from Priti Patel about travelling to UK for only 'essential' reasons is so vague as to cause real issues. How and who will define what 'essential' is- without any guidelines coming from above.

I am not travelling anywhere, for sure- and cancelled out trip to see daughters and grandchildren at Easter, of course.

This will be the third year I won’t be able to travel to see my children and grandchildren. I’ve got to stop myself dwelling on the chances of ever seeing them again.

SueDonim Elite sportsmen/women are allowed, partly I suppose as they stay in a bubble and are tested regularly.

Look at the problems the tennis players have caused by going to Australia.
I love tennis but can live without it.

Labourers and specialists need to travel. Their jobs can not be done over zoom

I thought the OP was about international travel. But any chance to PM bash is OK I guess.

No one should be travelling out of the UK unless it's for something essential. A skiing holiday, a trip to a holiday home, or a chance to grab some winter sun is not essential.

I don't think non UK residents should be travelling in. Even they should have to isolate.

She probably means anyone in the Tory party.
