Vaccine at Home?

Update.
After Hancock's statement on Monday about getting all the over 70s vaccinated, I decided to phone the surgery again. The receptionist was very helpful.
It seems that DH can now have the vaccine at home. Hallelujah!

the image of a GP coming to jab her in bed sounds a bit like something from a horror movie. sorry.
she was v pleased to get it. carer was sorry to miss it but not clear if would have been offered it anyway.

would you be able to get the vaccine when presumably they come out to jab your husband at home, OP ?
i guess he has to remain at home.
someone i know who certainly is housebound, mostly bed-bound, can walk a few steps with help and frame but not every day, had a GP come to jab her in bed.
unpaid carer was absent. would they have been jabbed ?

Charley now that is really is excellent care. I remember you saying on another thread that you were in a tricky situation.

I spoke to the GP and she said that it was a possibility, but it would be a faff and a very long wait.
So to the mega hub it is then. GP said that DH can have the vaccine in a month's time when his steroid dose is lower.
And hopefully, he will also be a lot fitter and stronger then. Fingers tightly crossed.
He was in a major panic yesterday because he'd got it into his head that the vaccine was 'going to run out'. I think that he has been od-ing on News.
I told him that I am the worrier in this enterprise, and that he should leave it to the professionals.

I had mine at home last Sunday but I personally think the GP surgery went above and beyond the call of duty. I live in one borough, the surgery is 2 miles away but a different borough. They had organised for the vaccine to be given at 2 sites, both difficult to get to. Surgery supplied transport but not for the 6-8 of us living in this borough. I think the GPs thought it would be easiest if one of the nurses did us all on the one day which is what happened- the coldest snowiest day of the year. I doubt if that will happen to many people but I will be eternally grateful.

Probably best to contact your local GP surgery / Health Authority as it may vary from place to place? One of my neighbours who is permanently wheelchair bound had to get a taxi to the local vaccination centre.

My mother is registered housebound with her GP and a nurse came out and gave her the vaccine on her doorstep. Similarly, the flu vaccine. I think the clue is being registered housebound in the first place. Last time we took my mother to the GP she fell in the street outside and it took three men to get her up.

I had mine at home last week as I am on chemotherapy.

2 near me had their vaccinations at home. One is genuinely housebound, the other has a pace-maker, but given the chance would be out and about.

The GP is ringing later this afternoon, so I suppose I'm just being nosy / impatient!

I know a bit - if you are officially classified as housebound by your GP practice, and are in the care of the district nurses you will receive your vaccination at home. All other patients are expected to attend their GP practice or a vaccination centre as they normally would for appointments, as the district nurses don’t have additional capacity to vaccinate more people at home than they normally have on their caseloads.
