How should we deal with the groups who refuse to have the vaccine?

Our vaccination programme is going so well but could it be scuppered by the reported large numbers of certain groups reluctant to be vaccinated?

What is the reason for the refusal I wonder? The news has been dominated by assurances from any number of experts that the vaccines are safe and effective, so ignorance seems unlikely.

Are there really that many crazy individuals who have fallen for the insane conspiracy theories?

Hello,
It's me again NellG I really can't find anything on fertility. The PRAMS info didn't cover it. Do come back with a link please!
Thanks

growstuff the evidence is that those vaccinated are unlikely to transfer the virus to other people. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55913913 It is expected to contribute to reducing the R figure.

As to which vaccine. I couldn't give a toss, I just grabbed at the first chance to have it, and got it.

The reports that the AstraZeneca vaccine is less effective with the elderly, comes, initially from, political sources in the EU, who were already in dispute with the company because the companies EU factory, which had a contract to supply the UK would not break a commercial agreement to please theEU.

There are reports on the trials of the AstraZeneca vaccine online that show it is effective for older people www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)32466-1/fulltext

thank you to all who gave advice on my situation, I appreciate it and will follow it up x

Yorki Wed 03-Feb-21 21:36:35

Biba70 why are carers and NHS staff refusing the covid vaccines. Do they know something we don't?

BlueSky Wed 03-Feb-21 12:59:58

NellG I thought as much! Thank you for all your help, I’ll certainly come to you for clarification, I like to know facts from fiction.
Casdon thanks yes I’m aware we can still
request these tests and I intend to do so for the foreseeable future.

NotSpaghetti Wed 03-Feb-21 12:41:22

Oh no, I'm wrong, the PRAMS isn't...

NotSpaghetti Wed 03-Feb-21 12:39:46

Actually these are all about the effects on pregnancy...

NotSpaghetti Wed 03-Feb-21 12:38:58

Actually Nell the earlier link wasn't about the effect on fertility, that's what I'm asking about.
I don't usually have too many links - so don't worry about that - I'm one of those people with a shortcut to Google Scholar on my desktop. ?

NellG Wed 03-Feb-21 12:05:03

Growstuff - Bwahahahahahahaha.

NellG Wed 03-Feb-21 12:04:04

GagaJo, Notspaghetti - another link, with more links within! (you're going to regret asking...haha).

NellG

Psssst, growstuff, for God's sake no one mention that the AZ vaccine is derived from Chimpanzee DNA, there'll be carnage! It'll be like the Charlton Heston version of Planet of the Apes! wink

I wondered why there was this poster on the vaccination centre wall. People can't say they weren't warned. wink

NellG Wed 03-Feb-21 11:57:25

Sorry, awkward phrasing! Not because I think I understand them better, to discuss how I interpret them.

Shandy57 Wed 03-Feb-21 11:49:38

Nanof3 it will be over before you know it, they are so experienced.

NellG Wed 03-Feb-21 11:36:01

Blue Sky, and I'm sorry that I was so confrontational - people having the vaccine is very important to me and I like to squash misinformation. So, my apologies. I am medically trained though no longer practising, but I studied research methods and still take an active interest in research and how it is interpreted to/by people.

I'm always happy to discuss the why's and wherefores of things as I understand them.

Nanof3 Wed 03-Feb-21 11:35:50

I am having the jab tomorrow and I am worried about the length of the needle, I hate injections despite having to 'stab' myself every week but that is with a pen type not a syringe and I always find anything to do with injections incredibly painful. I think I will take paracetamol before I go as I do when visiting the Dentist and hope I do not give in to nerves.

Casdon Wed 03-Feb-21 11:31:48

BlueSky although you are not automatically invited, you can get both breast screening and bowel screening over the age of 70 on request.

NellG Wed 03-Feb-21 11:30:11

BlueSky Wed 03-Feb-21 11:29:11

NellG thanks didn’t know about the volunteer drivers. Sorry if I sounded flippant in my earlier comment but I need my coffee first! Seriously I’m too old to worry about possible long term side effects. Noticed how they no longer offer/recommend breast/bowel screening in the over 70s?
You seem to know quite a lot, are you medically/scientifically trained?

Witzend Wed 03-Feb-21 11:26:36

Interestingly, an ex colleague of mine, who lives about a 20 minute walk away, had her first jab a week after I did, at the same fairly local hub, but she was given the Pfizer, whereas dh and I had the AZ.
Seems to depend on which GP surgery, since hers is different from ours. And I dare say they just have whatever they’re allocated.

Grannynannywanny Wed 03-Feb-21 11:25:27

Franbern and Flowershop it was a stupid flippant comment I made. Please accept my sincere apologies for offence caused.

I’d just sat down for a read on gransnet after an exasperating chat with an anti vaccine acquaintance. It was a spur of the moment comment which unfortunately I didn’t in that moment associate with the horrific circumstances you’ve mentioned.

Again, please accept my sincere apologies. I will ask for it to be removed. I feel dreadful that my thoughtless stupidity has caused offence.

NellG Wed 03-Feb-21 11:24:25

NotSpaghetti, GagaJo - here's one link that outlines the issues. This one focuses more on the vaccines but I know there is a research project happening atm that is studying the affects of Covid on pregnancy in detail - It might take me a moment to find it, but I'll post a link when I do.

Casdon Wed 03-Feb-21 11:23:35

I didn’t know you could measure if you even have a healthy immune system, don’t you only know when you have a problem with it?

Shandy57 Wed 03-Feb-21 11:18:09

I've just read a message on another forum where the poster said she thought her natural healthy immune system would protect her against the virus. As we do not have any natural immunity against this virus as it is so new and different, I cannot understand her thinking. She has been encouraged to have the vaccination.

NellG Wed 03-Feb-21 11:14:46

Blue Sky - fair enough. Just in case it is of interest to you, if you were to be offered the vaccination earlier at the out of town centre, there are volunteer drivers who can arrange safe, free transport.

Franbern Wed 03-Feb-21 11:14:42

Grannynannywanny

I would offer the choice of a vaccination or a tattoo on their forehead saying Unvaccinated.

And I would repeat the question I asked previously. Grannynannywanny Would you include this indelible marking on children who are not fully vaccinated ???

Must say I am horrified at this sort of attitude. Had thought it had collapsed amid the ruins of Belsen and Auswitch.
