I am not a practicing anything person as I am not religious. I know people who fear vaccinations but I think it’s the unknown they don’t like. I am going for the vaccination on Sunday and I feel a sense of relief. I honestly think this last year has been like waiting for the death sentence.

Just a brief answer to those who question that those who don’t have the vaccine put others at risk.
If you don’t have the vaccine and you get the virus there is a good chance you will be very ill and take up an icu bed and the attendant staff. The more this happens the less beds will be freed up for cancer treatments, heart problems and much more to be treated, that has been delayed because of the virus.
Just one example of risk to others.

I agree Laura, I just dont agree with mandatory vaccines. I think we need to be very careful and cautious about decisions we make now, when a large part of the population are in collective trauma for want of a better description. I think the implications that decision would have on bodily autonomy and the right to refuse treatment could be far reaching.

So I might be wrong here and will happily be re-educated.
My understanding on why some people would refuse based on religious grounds is due to the creation of certain synthetic cell strands used to create certain vaccines. In that the advancement of certain aspects of the science used to create them can be traced back to experimentation on foetuses (1960’s).
Everything I’ve read states totally debunks the aborted foetuses are in the vaccine narrative that’s been on social media etc. Tbh, the sheer volume of scientific expansion there has been based on a the ability to synthesise DNA and cell sequences in the past 60 years is overwhelming.
Therefore, IMO it would be impossible to decipher which aspects of modern life/technology/medicine have their roots in what many would (for religious reasons) think of as abhorrent practices. So personally unless people are willing to put the same level of scrutiny into every single thing they put into or on their body, I find the argument a bit hypocritical- especially from those who work in medicine.

Also chipping in on the Catholic thing - we always had fish on a Friday and abstained from meat on holidays of obligation.

He confirmed the opinion that anyone involved in the medical or care professions have a professional responsibility to ensure that they do not in any way harm their patients. Same thoughts as Chris Whitby obviously. Well worth listening to if you can find it - he’s was talking to Piers and Suzanne.

Its quite important to think about why that might be though. Why are people embracing conspiracy theories, it's not just covid, it's the conspiracy theories around trump and the stolen election. I think it would be a massive mistake not to ask why this is happening.

Funny you should say that Greynitter I was just pondering the issue properly ( having been facetious about it in my last post) and thinking back. Many moons ago I went in to nursing, and I'm convinced we were obliged to have Hep B and Tetanus inoculations before we could go near patients. Pretty sure I've still got a vax record for it somewhere. It wasn't a choice, if you wanted to nurse, you had the jabs - to protect yourself and your patients.

Its quite a substantial number of people, I think its somehow connected to a complete failure to address peoples concerns on all sorts of issues. Complete lack of faith of those in power so people turn elsewhere for answers.

Had it not been mandatory to put up black out blinds to protect a nation there may have been more bombing of our cities.

And calling them stupid didnt work for Clinton against trump, and it didnt work for Brexit. We can keep doing that but it's really not working.

I expect that in time the Medical Defence organisations will make vaccination mandatory as part of the indemnity cover for doctors. That coupled with health organisations making vaccination a pre-requisite for new front line employees which will mean they can’t apply for promotions, and vaccine passports for travel abroad will make the doubters question their stance. It’s been hinted at already in the briefings, and legal rulings will no doubt follow.

I hope that enough of us have the vaccine to keep covid at bay.

I can't have the flu vaccine due to an allergy to one of the ingredients and I have to rely on those that can have it to help keep me safe by reducing the amount of flu around.
