Twelve weeks on, Mum still hasn't been called for second jab!

How widespread is this?

Mum, who originally was supposed to have her second jab in January, three weeks after the first, has chased this up, and is apparently on the list to be called when the next batch of Pfizer is available at her vaccination centre, but she has been told that they don't know when that will be!

What's making Mum even more angry is knowing that she seems to be alone in this amongst her wide circle of friends, one of whom has even had the second jab after only eight weeks.

Meanwhile, a lot of her friends' younger family members (fifties, some even younger) have just had the Pfizer vaccination, though admittedly not in the same region.

Is this failure to give the second dose within twelve weeks widespread, or is my mum just unlucky?

Great news MamaCaz.

PippaZ Sun 21-Mar-21 22:03:05

That is really good news MamaCaz.

Itsnotme Sun 21-Mar-21 20:26:01

My dad who’s 93 had his first jab in January and is still waiting for his second jab appointment. His surgery is useless, but his neighbour who’s a doctor will get him in for a second jab I’m sure. He feels forgotten about.

MamaCaz Sun 21-Mar-21 20:18:08

The latest from Mum's surgery is that they have now secured the next batch of the vaccine (or words to that effect, according to Mum) and her second dose will probably be given next Sunday (nearly 14 weeks after the first), but they can't give her an actual appointment yet as the clinic hasn't been finalized yet (whatever that means).

PippaZ Sun 21-Mar-21 13:05:29

Before someone chooses to jump down my throat I did not mean MamaCaz was being silly, after all, she was initially only asking if this was widespread. That seems like useful research to me.

PippaZ Sun 21-Mar-21 13:02:20

I don't know about anyone else but my comments were nothing to do with this being "perceived criticism" of the vaccine rollout. Was that what prompted the replies of Patsy70 and suziewoozie?

This will sort itself out. We are not on rationing, our children have not been sent to the countryside and no one is dropping bombs on us albeit Johnson has managed to lose twice the number of citizens as were killed in the Blitz. I think we can all understand MamaCaz's mother having a conversation with her about it but the only identified "angry" person on here is MamaCaz's mother (read the OP).

I cannot, for the life of me, think why suggesting anger is not the way to go, nor is plaguing the GP surgery or the MP is seen as either "rude" or that oft trotted out adjective, "unkind". If MamaCaz thinks her mother has not understood the situation one call to the GP to ask for information - not demand the vaccine they don't appear to have - is all that is needed.

Such a silly fuss about something that, at the moment of posting the OP, could not be changed.

Why the unkind comments and lack of understanding to a perfectly reasonable question? MamaCaz I do hope your Mum has her second jab soon. I’d be very concerned on my mother’s behalf too. Definitely contact her GP if you don’t hear.

Quite - I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion that any perceived criticism of the vaccine roll out is to be treated as an act of high treason ?

Everyone jumping up and down and getting in a twist if they’ve not ‘heard’ Also lots of experts wanting to phone GPs, NHS, MPs. Just be patient and thankful.

What a very rude post and inaccurate to boot. No one is jumping up and down at all. Some posters are giving sensible advice to others. Anyone who is having problems getting a second jab is being sensible and responsible in trying to address that problem .

A post is not rude, or necessarily inaccurate just because you disagree. What is inaccurate in the posts you have so far deemed to be so? It's all a bit rich coming from someone who appears not to reference or back up anything she says.

We were told we’d be sent a text after 12 weeks, not due till mid April, why ignore first advice.

Who’s ignoring first advice? I don’t understand your post.

So, the originally post was Wednesday, MamaCaz did you contact your Mothers surgery and get an update?

I wouldn’t be surprised if the OP had left this thread given some of the comments here.

Daisymae Sat 20-Mar-21 09:03:46

We had a text from the GP surgery telling us to book online, which seems to be a combination of the two approaches. At the vaccination hub we were told that we would be contacted between 3 - 12 weeks, more likely 12, for the second dose. That was February so not expecting to hear just yet. I would be getting twitchy by week 11, if I had not heard by then. I suppose you have to keep on trying by that time.

I was told second jab had to be within 12 weeks or not valid.. My two appointments were booked at the same time first 13th Jan second 31st March at Guys Hospital. I received a text and email one Sunday evening telling me to go for second jab on 4th March instead

That’s interesting suzie. I think I’ll just wait my turn too!

Yes I just thought it was useful feedback for anyone nearing the end of their 12 weeks and not having heard. Obvs it’s area dependent .

Following comments on here, I thought I’d see what would happen if I logged onto NHS booking site and tried to book second jab. I’m 6 weeks post 1st one. I put in NHS number, dob and postcode and was offered one location 15 miles away today. I didn’t book it because that would be wrong and I’d also rather support my local surgery but it’s good to know tgat option is available atm in my are ( Surrey). Bit shocked though

Go on the nhs website and book it

My understanding is that the nhs website is for booking first jabs and at the same time making a booking for the second one. Anyone share my understanding ?

Yes, or at least, yes in my case. I was contacted by my surgery for the first dose, although it was given at another location, and no 2nd date given.

I've tried to see if I can book online for the second but computer says no.

suziewoozie Fri 19-Mar-21 10:22:37

And we still do not know how long one jab remains effective for

So many people conplaining.. In so many countries they are not getting first let alone second. One shot pretty well keeps you safe. The second is a top up. It is true that the British are a country of complainers Learn to be thankful...PLEASE

Neither fair nor true,

But still Theoddbird's opinion accompanied by the facts she bases it on.

This thread is NOT full of people complaining but there have been maybe 2 legitimate concerns raised. If you went to a Michelin starred restaurant and had a poor meal, do you think you shouldn’t complain because most people had had a good meal and anyway you were lucky to be able to afford to go?
I care passionately about the NHS and over a long association with it in various roles, am well aware that complains are one of the mechanisms of improvement.
