This was the headlines on the online edition of The Mail this evening. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Imagine sitting on a plane just before take off and the pilot after doing his usual welcome to flight...... says “ and the best of luck”. Don’t think you’d be filled with confidence. Sorry Boris but we are relying on you, the Goverment and the top medical and scientific advisers based on multitudes of statistics to have made the best decisions to ensure the.safety of the Nation. Now we’re depending on luck.? Please excuse me while I try to find my St Christopher and lucky four leaf clover. It beggars belief!

Boris puts on an act. He's a very intelligent and astute man. He knows exactly what he's doing but his bumbling caricature seems to make people willing to protect him as in 'he's doing his best'. No he isn't. He's doing what he wants to do regardless of how it affects us.

Or costs us.

Like £160k to one of his mistresses. Which of course he lied about and people seemed willing to believe.

Yes, Boris is definitely on a fitness and sport drive if this afternoon's briefing is anything to go by!
That's a good thing, so wishing the best of luck was probably appropriate.

Lemsip he has loads of names to choose from (as well as the derogatory ones on here). He could have chosen Alexander instead of Boris. If his popularity is increasing it is partially due to Starmer’s popularity decreasing as there are problems within the Labour Party.

DM and much of the press like to sensationalise. Nicola Sturgeon was reported to “savage” Alex Salmond. So much rage and fury in the headlines until you read the full report and wonder what it was all about.

It doesn't appear to do him any harm though.

He does indeed waffle and bumble but people still appear to like him

He's doing rather well in the polls when really he shouldn't be

And who is Harley, Lucca?

He’s doing well in the polls for a variety of reasons the main one of which is the vaccine rollout. Other reasons include people’s short memories and a right wing press.

lemsip Mon 29-Mar-21 08:52:13

as if he's sending us off to battle
Well it is not over is it. We have to look after our own health and still follow the advice.

I'm sure that if he was called John or Ian etc instead of Boris he wouldn't get so much stick.

Different to, or different from.
Now there’s another thread!

I wondered that myself !! Charles I guess

Having read the posts from our virtual friends in France and other EU countries it seems that they are all convinced their governments have done everything wrong in this crisis. So ‘Boris bashing’ or its equivalent is a Europe wide sport.
The only ‘luck’ we need is for people to stop trying to find a way round the rules, because they are somehow ‘different’ to everyone else.

This thread has really cheered me up after trying to read the 27 pages about Megan and Harry.

Don’t bother. Here’s a summary: harry Meghan Diana = bad
Queen Anne Harley camilla etc etc etc =good.
Meghan = specially bad

Boris is no orator. He never seems to be fully aware of the facts so bumbles his way through a reply. He has come out with some strange statements and gaffes and he won't be finished yet.

Sneer = having the critical ability to be able to judge the actions of Johnson based on evidence and not adulation

Stringent measures were put in place to protect the populace; they are now being relaxed and people will have to take some responsibility for their well-being.
Therefore good luck seems entirely appropriate.
But so much easier to sneer.

good luck - ??? - we’re not buying a lottery ticket for goodness sake. We’re just moving back to be able to do some things we could do before this stupid PM made fatal decisions in December which led to the deaths of tens of thousands more in January and February

Ro60 Mon 29-Mar-21 00:54:20

Surprised he didn't add "Over and Out"

Curlygirl Mon 29-Mar-21 00:23:29

Those of us who are “sneering” are probably the people who have abided by the rules and tried to do the right thing and are justifyably annoyed when the Government do not seem to exercise proper judgement. My husband and myself “locked down” last year a week before the Government said. In doing so we had to cancel a planned family lunch for our 51st Wedding Anniversary. Now scientists say that if the country had locked down a week before it did thousands of lives could have been saved. This was just the first of so many wrong or too late decisions this Goverment have made.So excuse me if I sneer but I feel I have every justification.

‘ Why is it some of us are always prepared to think the worse of him? ‘

I can't stop humming that Gracie Fields tune. Wish me Luck. My Grandpa used to love it

www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EUytEX_XkE

And my MIL.
My Mum hated it and I'm none too keen!

Curlygirl Sun 28-Mar-21 22:21:51

Yes have now read the complete article and yes he is referring to sports. Why is it some of us are always prepared to think the worse of him? Maybe based on some of his past history during the pandemic? Yes I know we have had a wonderful result from the vaccine programme. But think we owe an awful lot of that to our wonderful scientists and the dedicated health workers and volunteers who along with the Army have worked tirelessly to make it happen so the Government can’t take all the credit for that.

Are these his final words before he jumps ship?
