Astra Zeneca Vaccine side effect ?

Very interested to know if anyone has suffered from very itchy spots and rash after having the Astra Zeneca vaccine.
I have just had my second vaccination and once again suffering from a very itchy rash and spots which can develop on any part of my body, trunk, arms and legs. The spots or rash will gradually fade only to reappear days later. this has been going on for weeks!
After the first vaccination all seemed OK until after approximately six weeks, so it wasn't an immediate reaction. In fact I probably wouldn't have linked it with the vaccine had the itching not become so intense after having the second jab.
I should also mention that I have had blood tests, which have come back OK, even my GP is at a loss to know what's causing it and antihistamines are not helping.
I look forward to hearing if anyone has suffered anything similar.

I have had no side affects from 1st one, although my sister was out of sorts for 2 days, she actually fainted through the night. We both got ours on the same day so for our 2nd ones in June I'm going to stay overnight with her just in case.

I had the Phizer vaccine and no effects but I am almost certain I had the virus in March 2020 and in November my blood was tested for antibodies by Imperial College and I was found to have them. In the March I had no cough or breathing problems but a terrible sore throat and strange rashes everywhere and I still have almost permanently cracked and itchy skin on my fingers.

This might be totally off base, but when I had my first AZ jab, it brought about a recurrence of the symptoms I had when first diagnosed with ME, including rashes around my wrists. Since “long covid” is really ME by another name, I thought there might be some connection. I have reported my side effects via the yellow card system. I hope you have/will do the same

My sister had a bad reaction to A Z the second time. She was fine that day but the next day her blood pressure dropped and she passed out twice, the second time she hit her head on the kitchen counter, she ended up in hospital for a week

4 days after my 1st AZ vaccination I had really bad diarrhoea. I used Imodium melts each time I needed the loo. I had to use 3 doses of 2 before it receded. Felt totally wiped out and a bit light headed. Just ate toast the next day until evening, when I ate a very plain meal.
I had my 2nd AZ vaccination the day before yesterday and within an hour I had the same effect (while my husband was driving me home from the vaccination site!) Awful! Luckily I was wearing Sloggi Maxi briefs and trousers so it was reasonably well contained! God, what a nightmare! Same thing again with the Imodium melts and took the same number of doses.
Again wiped out and lightheaded. Toast in the evening but really empty feeling.
I'm fine today.
No doubt we'll be having booster injections every year, so I will plan to do nothing after and hope for a very local vaccination site!
I have heard of others having diarrhoea as a side effect but haven't heard how urgent it was!
Good luck everyone!

I heard that there is a link between AZ and shingles. It affected my cousins eyes but is ok now. Good luck and hope it eases.

You can pick scabies up anywhere, its nothing to be ashamed of. My son picked them up, an itchy rash which kept coming and going. The Gp said it was an allergy the first time we went but it turned out to be scabies.

We had Pfizer vaccinations, but other members of the family had AZ. No one in our family has had any side effects at all from the AZ vaccine. I read somewhere that the itchy rash is a common one though.

I was very interested in reading this post as I too have an itchy rash. The warmer I get the itchier the rash. It drives me insane. It’s on my back, stomach, top of my thigh and the worst one is under my left nipple. It’s comforting to know there are others with this problem. Antihistamines don’t work and I’ve tried every cream going with no affect. I will try the aloe Vera gel as someone on here mentioned. I had the AZ vaccine and apart from fatigue that lasted the remainder of the day nothing else. 2nd jab no reaction whatsoever.

DH & I have each had two doses of AZ, with no after-effects at all. Absolutely no problems.

I had a rash on both my shins, two weeks after having the Astra Zeneca jab. I also had an excruciating headache the same time as the 'blood spot' rash appeared. I've had a bad headache now for six weeks, every day. Also, blood clots coming out of my nose. My GP referred me to hospital for a CT brain scan after three weeks, which was clear. The rash has now disappeared but all my GP tells me about my headache is that nothing serious on CT scan. I don't know what to do now. Anyone had similar? Thanks.

Yes I did after my first jab actually around the vaccination spot, a few days after I had it. I've had my second since but no itching this time.

Neilspurgeon0 Wed 05-May-21 13:23:29

I have had two jabs, no reaction whatsoever

Talking of vaccines, I’ve just had my second Pfizer vaccine 3 days ago and whilst sitting in Doctors waiting room I started to get chest pain about 5 minutes after but didn’t say anything as I didn’t fancy a trip to hospital and 8 hour wait! 3 days on ive still got some chest pains and palpitations, I’ve read this can be normal side effects of Pfizer so just wondered if anyone else had suffered same thing and if so how long it lasted?

My elder son 35 had the jab early because of his asthma. A few weeks after the jab he got an ichy rash on his legs. It went away though after a couple of weeks My husband and I didn't get much although after the first jab I became very very cold with teeth chattering at bed time. It was gone the next day.

I didn’t have much reaction except extremely vivid and weird dreams and a slight headache. Next vaccination in June and I will have the flu one in a couple of weeks.

A few years ago I had a virus,no idea what it was but developed a rash after it,that was very itchy at times too. No-one could tell me what it was until one day a locum doctor took one look at it and said it was vasculitis. Took blood to check and it was that. It's a reaction by the immune system to a virus and affects the blood vessels. Possibly your body reacting to the vaccine. May be worth an ask. If you have or can get hold of an aloe vera plant the gel from the leaves works wonders for alleviating the itching or failing that use cooked oatmeal, let it go cold and spread it on...instant relief. Good luck

Interesting thread this. I had / have the same signs and symptoms as Jude2006. Responding well to my usual hand cream. I too am putting it down to the AZ vaccine. For me the reaction came after the second dose. I developed a dry and cracked lower lip that ulcerated. I felt generally tired and rough. All mainly resolved after five days - only the signs described by Jude remaining. I'm taking this as a positive sign that my immune system has made a good response to the vaccine.

I always think that if you get a reaction to a vaccination, if you hadn't had the vaccine and caught the illness, you'd have been much more ill. I had a mild dose of coronovirus seemed to recover, then it came roaring back as Long Covid. It's been about 16 or 17 weeks now and sometimes it's still difficult to breathe. I definitely recommend the vaccine. I've now had the first vaccine (only side effect was a very sore hip and aching back) and intend to have the second.

bear1 Wed 05-May-21 12:38:09

had both my vaccines and apart from a sore spot where needle went in have had no side effects at all

Buttonjugs Wed 05-May-21 12:31:53

It sounds like hives, I get this from time to time but usually in places that are in contact with clothing labels on my torso. I am not sensitive to them mostly, just random times like my skin is having a tantrum!

Annma Wed 05-May-21 12:26:36

I had pains in my joints, a headache and felt really tired after my first AZ jab. The symptoms lasted about two weeks. I had my second jab last week and feel okay - just a slight pain in my arm. It is supposedly a good sign if you have some side effects. It shows your immune system is working well!

amselerin Wed 05-May-21 12:22:44

I had the Astra vaccination and was very bad for 24 hours, shaking. really aching joints and freezing, like flu. My friend who is the same age and same weight had no symptons at all. I am not looking forward to the 2nd vaccination on June, 24th. Take care

nipsmum Wed 05-May-21 12:17:02

I've had both Astra Zenica vaccines. I'm 80 and have had absolutely no reaction whatsoever. Maybe your GP need to do some skin scrapes to get to a diagnosis for your rash, especially as it is recurring.
