End of self isolation?

Apparently Johnson and Sunak are not self isolating despite being pinged after contact with Javid, according to the guardian today. I suspect that probably means others will consider it optional?

Very brave Avalon, and I'll of course respect your opinion.

But I totally disagree- as people will now just delete their ap and say 's*d this' - if they are again, and again, apply the 'do as I say not as I do' tactic- then I am NO longer listenig to anything they say.

Back to Lock down by September?

This pilot scheme has absolutely nothing to do with the App.
It only applies if you are rang by Test and Trace.
As fo folks now deleting the App, only a small percentage of the population downloaded it. (Will try and find the exact percentage)

randomised controlled trial my a**e.

25Avalon Sun 18-Jul-21 10:49:48

Kali2 part of the problem is it gets sensationalised by some of the media without giving a proper explanation so, of course, people think ‘s*d this’ as do those who have been ignoring it for a while anyway.

If anyone still needed proof that we are not all in this together and it’s one rule for the elite and another for we plebeians then surely this is it. Many people will still make excuses for them though.

MawBe Sun 18-Jul-21 10:47:30

Talk about one rule for the plebs (us all) and one rule for them
Why should anyone listen to anythig they say anymore. I am incandecent about this, and I can assure you I am not the only one. Just talked to close relatives who are lifelong Cons and they are as angry as we are. Their grandchildren have recently lost a lot of school time, one daughter found herself without childcare, and another son lost a massive opportunity- due to having to isolate

I’m sure many who work for TFL or Border Force would regard themselves as plebs according to your definition but I can also imagine the pearl clutching and outrage on GN if the entire “ping” protocol were abandoned without trialling first.
Damned if they do and damned if they don’t? hmm
“Losing a lot of school time, being without childcare or losing business opportunities because of having to self-isolate” is about par for the course and considerably less serious than many others have had to cope with, so spare us the violins please.

Galaxy Sun 18-Jul-21 10:46:25

Ok its beginning to sound as if there is some reversal going on now. I think there may be a change of plan grin

wendyann23 Sun 18-Jul-21 10:43:46

Just think it is another case of do as I say, not what I do. One rule for them and another for the rest of us.

Nezumi65 Sun 18-Jul-21 10:38:16

It’s not a randomised control trial that’s for sure.

Kali2 Sun 18-Jul-21 10:38:01

In science, you just have to- or it is all nonsense (as this clearly is)

rosie1959 Sun 18-Jul-21 10:34:18

Maisie perhaps I just don’t dissect everything

There are several organisations taking part in this are we also furious with them No of course not.
This is nothing new we have to have trials to see how effective it is

Do you know what 'randomisation' means and how important it is in making a what our children & grandchildren are taught to call a 'fair trial'?

Because from everything that's being brought up on this thread it is clear that there's no randomisation and no 'fair trial'. It's crap wool to pull over people's eyes...

It has just been reported on Andrew Marr that this is being offered to TFL, Border Force and many others if they are rang by Test and Trace, not available if you are only pinged by the App. Those on this pathway have to test daily.

This does not sound like bona fide properly run scientific trial (which I'm assuming is what it's meant to be). 'Being offered' is not randomisation, for a start. Randomisation is 'being allocated' to one or the other condition.

This is just an exercise in further demoralisation of the public and continuing the state of chaos that Johnson so loves.

Galaxy Sun 18-Jul-21 10:27:16

Two people who I work with applied for this and were accepted straight away. I am aware of a couple of schools also involved in this study. I to be honest am not sure what I feel about it. Those around the person cant consent can they.

Not just the 2 of them but Downing Street which is among 20 private and public organisations taking part in this pilot study. It’s for work places so will enable them to continue with essential government business. They will have to test every day. They have to self isolate when not working.

Yes I do think it is fair and right now I understand what it is.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 18-Jul-21 10:18:38

Those isolating and complying to all the safety rules must be absolutely furious.

Those being now told to isolate will certainly think twice now.

Nezumi65 Sun 18-Jul-21 10:14:03

Mind you this might even open my mother’s eyes to Johnson which would be a miracle.

Nezumi65 Sun 18-Jul-21 10:13:14

I am seriously worried about my son’s care team collapsing due to self isolation (already one down). Am hoping there is a random control trial they can sign up to non-randomly hmm

I can’t believe so many just accept pile after pile of this shit from government. What do they have to do before people wake up to the cronyism and self interest?

And you can't see the irony and hypocrisy of this and their timing?

Will you really stand up and say this is fair and right?

Grannynannywanny Sun 18-Jul-21 10:04:15

If they are taking part in a pilot study and only going to and from work I wonder who made the decision for Sajid Javid to visit a care home during the week. Surely that couldn’t be considered essential business. He walked around amongst a very vulnerable group of residents and mingled with staff while incubating coronavirus.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 18-Jul-21 09:43:19

What price good leadership?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 18-Jul-21 09:34:04

It is their Bernard Castle moment.

MaizieD Sun 18-Jul-21 09:24:33

But according to the description of this 'pilot' that the CO & government are supposed to be in, the participants in each condition (i.e. isolating or not isolating) are randomly selected. That is how the validity of the trial is ensured.

What an amazingly lucky coincidence that both Johnson and Sunak have been randomly selected to the 'non isolation' condition...

Daisymae Sun 18-Jul-21 09:24:13

Extremely convenient for them.
