“I know of no episode in history, where a government has willingly aided and abetted the spread of a dangerous infectious disease amongst its own population”

History is being made.

From The New Statesman.

“We are heading into the biggest wave of #Covid infection we have ever seen…it’s likely that we will see in the low tens of thousands of death if cautious…that could move into the mid and high tens of thousands of if we (go)back to normal activity” Prof Hayward SAGE (Sky)

If this government gets voted in once again, then I will truly know that I’m living in a madhouse.

But you don’t get a hundred different answers you get mainly the same answer from them all Mattsmum.
This is a dangerous experiment, condemned throughout the world, carried out on our own population.

I didn’t say you would get 100 different answers.

Watch out everyone, those goalposts are moving...

Not then and those being experimented on had no idea.

It is entirely different from the current scenario. The experiments were controlled experiments on a finite number of people.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 20-Jul-21 21:07:56

All experiments at PD are strictly controlled.

Callistemon Tue 20-Jul-21 20:57:29

Porton Down and the common cold experiments?

They also carried out other tests under the guise of common cold experiments but not on the whole population.

The title says I know of no episode in history, where a government has willingly aided and abetted the spread of a dangerous infectious disease amongst its own population

SueDonim, at about lunchtime today - the Tuskegee Syphillis Experiment.

The initial statement of this post, the title, is based on a fallacy. QED.

?? tell me how many people did it involve?

Did it involve a particular group or allowed to spread randomly, or was the spread controlled?

Was the intention to create herd immunity?

Go on then show me how easy it is to disprove.

Pull apart the untrue claims.

I so wish you hadn't posted that, I just recommended it as a poem suitable for a funeral!

Sorry, Callistemon, but I hope you feel able to use the original, nevertheless.

Yes, it was the original and very apt for the much loved and admired deceased.

That should read

“What is easy to disapprove”

The title of this thread is easy to disprove, several posters have already done it. SueDonim and muffinthemoo to name two of them.

And all PMs make history, one way or another.

The meat of the post, the thing you want us to talk about, is sandwiched between untrue claims and a one-line comment on the voting intentions of your fellow citizens.

Brian Bilston has written this parody of Rudyard Kipling's poem “If”.

Having just watched Cummings -odious man, - but so much of what he said I recognised as true, because I remember it happening at the time. He just puts the icing on what we know.

Oh! And I met a GNetter last week, and a lovely time we had. All present were very, very sensible enjoying ourselves in the fresh air.

Whitewave did you enjoy lunch out with your family group at a public restaurant?

Did you do it safely? You've had both jabs? Eating outside with lots of fresh air. No-one in your party that should have been self-isolating. Trusting the restaurant was following the advice of this government.

I ask as COVID is absolutely rampant in the North East according to the government's statistics, published daily. Personally, we've cancelled a trip to see family in the Manchester area next week as numbers are high there (but lower than NE).
So I ask myself whether you really believe the headline of this post .... but it has provoked some good discussion.wink

Lunch was taken in the open air in Welwyn Garden City.

All behaviour was closely monitored by one of the attendees - a doctor???.

And yes, until someone is able to show me that the author of the OP is wrong, I do believe that this government is making history. I think that Johnson is totally incapable and should never be the prime minister.

I shall continue to say so until he’s gone.

From Jason Hunter today:

19 new Covid cases in Melbourne.... so they shut down the whole state of Victoria (where my daughter lives) again for 5 days while they Track and Trace.
UK has over 54 fuxking THOUSAND CASES in a single day and opens bloody nightclubs!

Think we all have to accept that the Government BJ in particular haven’t got a clue, are too arrogant to listen to scientists and quite frankly don’t care how many people’s lives are lost in this ludicrous gamble. When will this country wake up to the fact that BJ’s ego is far more important than the lives of the people in this country. He is not Churchill, never will be and we are not here to help fulfil his lunatic fantasies.

PippaZ Tue 20-Jul-21 19:34:34

Juicywords, we will sadly have members of the population, family members in some cases, who will pay for the way this has been dealt with for decades. As well as those with cancer, some need joint replacements, etc. That may not be life-saving. However, their problems are continuing to worsen while they wait. And then there is long Covid; something we have no idea about yet.

IMO WWM2, if you decide to attract readers to a thread by heading it with outrageous claims that are easy to disprove, then it detracts from the content of the rest of the post. Like the MSM, headlines are used to pose false claims that then make the rest of the post doubtful.

So was the thread meant to be about a historically unprecedented event, the outcomes of the government's strategy, or a criticism of the government?

What is day to disapprove?

^We are being desensitised into thinking things like ‘oh good, only 20 people dead today’.^

We've got a new disease that didn't even exist 2 years ago. People will be affected by it for years to come, its not 100% curable or preventable yet.

450 people die of cancer every day. Does that keep you up at night, blaming the government for mismanagement?

But cancer is not contagious. To protect cancer patients we need to get Covid under control. This will affect us all as hospital beds fill up. Procedures are already being cancelled. The Government just don’t seem to be taking this pandemic seriously.
