I am yet another who felt unwell after my first AZ vaccination (extremely achy legs, chills, headaches), but apart from the tenderness around the injection spot, no side effects whatsoever after the second jab.

Well done on having your first, Bashful, and I hope that when you have your second, you too will not get any side-effects.

I had very flu-ey shivers and shakes the night after the first jab, but was better the next day.
No reaction at all to the 2nd.

TBH I was pleased in a way to have a reaction to the first jab - it meant it was doing something!

Congratulations, you have now joined the responsible majority, bashful

With any luck you will feel fine in a day or two and will be looking forward to getting your second jab.

Well done Bashful for having your vaccination.
I was reluctant at first but had the first one, just felt tired the next day, and felt nothing after the second one.

I had Astra Zeneca which caused headaches the following day after the first dose plus felt off colour but paracetamol relieved those symptoms. No side effects with the second dose which seemed to be the experience of many others. I’m glad you’ve had the first vaccination.,

Had the AZ. In my 70s
Felt so nauseous for two days after the first one and loss of appetite for about 4 days.
Second jab - not a single symptom.

I felt quite ill after my first dose, like after you do when you have a GA but was well 48 hours after, 2nd dose I just felt tired smile

One of my sons who I live with had covid a few weeks ago and we double vaccinated people avoided catching it. I'm sue the vaccination helped

I had a bit of a temperature over night after the first jab but my OH was fine. We both felt like we had a touch of flu the next day so decided to hunker down with some Lucozade. Spent a good part of the day sleeping. Following day we were both fine.

Barely a reaction after the second one. Bit of a headache overnight but fine the day after. OH had no reaction at all.

My daughter had Pfzier I had AZ we both felt a bit unwell for 24 hours, hers slightly more than me She had a sore arm too I had nothing
Second dose similar but a bit less for both, nothing much to worry about
Well done for changing your mind ?
My youngest told me she wouldn’t have it but my grandkids tell me she’s had both ? I ve never asked …..both my other children have had both (pfzier) and one grandchild has… others will as soon as the can One grand son in law outside U.K. has made it plain he won’t but we ll see when he wants to travel ??

Thank you everyone. I appreciate your comments. Will start taking paracetamol.

I felt pretty awful for a couple of days, was absolutely fine after that. Nothing at all after the second one. Mr. B had no side effects from both doses. Just rest and you’ll be fine.

I felt dreadful for about 24 hours, achy and headache. Second AZ I was fine. Keep taking paracetamol. Well done for getting the vaccine!

Good for you for changing your mind and having the vaccine, Bashful. I was lucky and had no side effects at all from either jab, but two of our children felt unwell for 24/48 hours after the first (one had AZ, one Moderna). One of them had similar symptoms for 24 hours again after the second jab, but they are both still happy and grateful to have been vaccinated. I’m sure you’ll feel better soon. flowers

Well done!

Yes all normal symptoms. I'm 66. Take paracetamol and you'll be feeling better after about 3 days. I did and lots more people I know.
After my 2nd jab I was fine apart from a bit of an achy arm.

SueDonim Sat 24-Jul-21 18:20:14

That sounds like a fairly standard reaction to AZ. It’s a sign that your body is getting to work. I had similar and thought how much worse the actual illness must be!

I had very little reaction to the second dose, I felt a bit tired and my arm was sore for 2/3 days but it was very minor and a couple of decent nights sleep sorted it out.

Flexagon Sat 24-Jul-21 18:12:03

It's just your immune system doing what it's supposed to do. Many people experience this. Read page 4 of the leaflet you should have been given which explains.

I was advised to take paracetomol as soon as I had the jab and every four hours after for 24 hours. I had no ill-effects whatsoever not even a sore arm. Maybe I was lucky or maybe it was the paracetomol.

Take some paracetomol now and do what I did when you come to have jab two.

Very well done indeed!!!

Both my children had AZ and both felt grotty after, but no more than I feel after some flu vaccines.

The symptoms you describe are perfectly normal , but once youve had the second one you will have protected yourself as far as you can from dying from covid.

You may or may not feel the same after the second dose, but as alternative to death, I know which I’d rather have?

Bashful Sat 24-Jul-21 18:04:25

Thanks Oopsadaisy1.

Oopsadaisy1 Sat 24-Jul-21 18:03:32

DH was unwell for a couple of days, I didn’t have any reaction at all, his reaction was similar to yours.
Don’t worry , you’ll be fine, have a cup of tea and rest up for a bit.

I finally relented and had my 1st dose of AZ yesterday afternoon. Had a horrible night and am having a headache, weak legs and chills today. Worried. Will it get better and will the 2nd dose cause the same symptoms?I am in my mid sixties.
Be glad to hear from anyone. Thank you.
